SEO tools can also help you identify how your competitors are conducting their content marketing. Simply look at their highest ranking posts and/or posts with the most backlinks and see whether they are using content upgrades themselves

The SEO tools basically give you the information that the Seach Engines don't give you.
Tools like SEMRUSH and Ahrefs, which are created for studying the Google SERP, work according to the same principle as the Google spiders. That is, they created robots that scan the sites, determine for which keywords these pages are accessed and how many visitors the page has. Google collects the same information only that it offers it to the site owner through Search Console, while the SEO tools make this information public, making it possible to analyze competitors.

Yes, they can definitely help! I use Ahrefs which has some great tools for helping increase your search engine rankings. I also use sites like Majestic and SEMRush, plus programs like SENuke & Scrapebox.

There are many really helpful SEO tools that are worth the money.

If you're asking for optimizing your website, here are my suggestions.

1. Yoast or RankMath. Both are equally great for the purpose they were made for (I personally prefer the free version of Yoast).
2. Lazy Load. The weight of your webpage decides how fast it will load. Text content on your page isn't gonna weigh almost anything, but the images are. Make sure you have a Lazy Load plugin (there are a few good ones) to optimize your images.
3. Wp-Rocket or LiteSpeed Cache. You have to take care of your website's caching optimization. These plugins are kings for this purpose.

These are the most important ones I believe. Then goes plugins for blocking comment spams, contact form abuses, CSS performance optimization, JS execution delay, and others that are good for optimizing the overall performance of your website.

If you're managing more than one website, SEO tools can help you assess each site's performance on the fly. Many entrepreneurs with multiple websites end up putting a lot of data in spreadsheets and analyzing it manually.

SEO is a serious branch of industry. It is not possible to make a brief analysis. There are different groups of SEO tools, depends on what part of the job is. For example, copywriting is just a part of the SEO strategy. Creating a backlink is also one of the just a part of SEO strategy and this requires special skills. you need to choose a part of SEO odds and focus on it. otherwise, you waste time.

If you are asking in general, they are like every other (helping) tools. You could do it well without it, but with the tools you will do it better and faster.

For topic and keyword research, I find ahrefs irreplaceable. At the same time I don't like MOZ and SEM. Btw the volume in all KW tools now is just a broad estimate and unreliable metric after Avast stopped selling the traffic data a year ago.

On the other hand, I find tools like BuzzSumo and Surfer for overrated.

It depends on your personal preferences, budget, etc.

Depends on which tool.

Tools like Ahrefs, Keyword Planner, SEM Rush etc. will help to you ANALYZE what needs to be done. But none of the tools will help you with the actual work.

Most of the SEO work is all about having good content on the website and getting a lot of QUALITY links to your website.

Then you can use tools like Ahrefs and Keyword Planner to find which keywords you should focus on etc.

I worked full-time with SEO for 6 years.

I hope it helps,
Joel
