I fully agree with you and that was my question at the beginning. There are other things that make me skeptical such no team information, poor whitepaper or spectacular web based on copy-pasted wordpress templates.

for me github is not a trust factor or is influencing my decision. If there is github Ok, I take a look at the code but however the code is proper, interesting or innovative or not, it is not a guarantee that I will join a ico because of github. Also if you develop a sensitive project publishing on github is most likely not going to happen...

Thank you to all of you.

As a tech guy I like to check the code of the projects I'm going to invest to. I know that many ICOs are made by companies and their code is closed. But I think that other are made by "tech people" that tries to make a good project. I prefer to check if they are good or active coders and if really they are working in the project.

I prefer to trust in that kind of projects, but this is my opinion.

Taking an alternate perspective -
Github repos, commits, PRs, contributions etc. all matter but are not the only criteria for judging an altcoin. Does Ripple have an open-source repo? No. But they are still the #4 crypto in terms of market cap. And their development team is constantly growing. I am sure, if in the future, there are new blockchain protocols that are proprietary and contain IP, we might not see an open-source repo, but that doesn't mean that the project is trash automatically.

Same is the case with Tokens created on platforms such as Waves. You don't need an open source repo for that. Do you think whopper coin (Waves token) from Burger King has a github repo? Does that mean it is trash?

Most of ICOs are companies. So they dont make opensource. They raise money for a designated project. Those are sort of tokens and not coins. Problem is crypto is that is all so mixed and most people have no ideas how different many "altcoins" are one to another

If they have a GitHub, they better be active and the code better work. If they're pushing garbage to a github account just to keep up appearances or commits then it doesn't really matter. All you should care about as an investor is the finished product, regardless of whether or not it's open source.

I don't even pay attention to it. Most projects/companies are private and they don't want to publish all their codes with the community.

Not at all... I would never trust something with my money that I cannot inspect myself, or hire some third party coders into auditing.

Never trust something you can't see with your money. Crypto is all about open source, if it's closed source it defeats the purpose.
