Just so you know out of the 290x series the Sapphire 290x Tri-X usually has Hynix mem chips and can reach hashrates over 900Kh/s and even close to 1000Kh/s, many other 290x brands such as the ASUS use Elpdia mem chips which wont go over 880Kh/s, however It's not guaranteed that you will get a Hynix chip card.

The 290 is much much cheaper and will hash between 850 and 900Kh/s, my advice is go with the 290 not the 290x.
I'm speaking from experience as I have them both and some 280x's too.

Good luck  Smiley

Lot of thanks for your answer, now I buy R9 290.

You could buy a GPU for mining if you were somehow getting "free" electricty, or you thought BTC price will climb at a very fast rate, soon.  Otherwise you won't get your investment back.

You wouldn't make much profit you need mining rigs from now on to mine Bitcoin if you want to make a profit.

you should consider 280x, the 290x doesn't give you that much better performance.

I am currently saving to buy a GPU so I can mine some alt coins. Still think mining can be very profitable if you are smart and mine the right coin at the time.

or is best hope and buy a asic miner?

If you are referring to those sha256 ASICs, I would suggest you not to buy them at all.
It is very hard to get your investment back with bitcoin mining now.

If you are referring to the new-coming scrypt ASICs, I guess it depends on how soon you can receive them...

of course in scrypt

Hi everybody,

I´m thinking to buy a rig with 6 Sapphire R9 290X Tri-X OC 4GB GDDR5 with an asrock h61-pro btc, Is a good moment to buy this?, or is best hope and buy a asic miner?, I don´t like the waiting time of this companies because I pay a lot of money and it´s possible the mining difficult up a lot of. Sorry for my english and thanks for the opinions.
