Why would anyone want to repeatedly harm their body like that?

Oh yeah, religious brainwashing.   Undecided

Of course not!  That's only for infidel Muslims who are too stupid to realize Muhommed was a false prophet and therefore their religion shouldn't exist

Yes!   Coincidentally, the Fast of the Holy Apostles began this year on June 12th and ends on June 29th with the Feast of SS. Peter and Paul.  It is one of the lesser fasts of the Eastern Orthodox religion.  Monday, Wednesday and Friday are strict fast days - no meat, no dairy, no wine and no oil. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, we can have wine and oil but still no meat no dairy and on Saturdays and Sundays we can include wine, oil and fish but still no meat or dairy.  Generally,  any of the meals we take will be much smaller than normal during this time.

I am Hindu but I live in Dubai and most of my room mates are muslims so I don't fast but I am aware about their fasting and I respect it and follow the same schedule of having food according to them.
in my country there are city of Hinduism, called Bali island. We are accustomed together and not just Hinduism, the various religions in one region and we enjoy it. Rainbow looks beautiful because of the difference.
