Do you guys have similar feelings when your post get merited ?
"A merit a day can take the sadness away"
-Shin Tzu, probably.

It's hard to get a merit nowadays, especially if you are a newbie. It's similar to a fresh graduate out of college trying to get a job with not experience.

The hardest part is getting creative to create a new good quality topic

Yes, why not. Everyone is happy about getting merits no matter they make many or less because it's kind of upvote which has some purpose in growing our reputation in the forum than useless like button on the social media platforms.

What you say is true, whatever number of merits we generate will make us happy. Because merits for me is a sign that we can be useful for
others, moreover it is not easy to get merits in this forum. So if someone decides to give us merits, it will definitely make us feel happy.
But unfortunately because merits in this forum can make us rank up, then there are some people who become obsessed with merits and break
the rules of this forum.
Rule breakers will get punished sooner or later, while there are lot of talking is going on about the merit gangs and biased treatment when it comes to merit distribution but as long as we are not obsessed with merits it won't affect us, just be yourself and try to contribute as much as we can will make us more happier than anything.

I am really happy to get the first Merit. I was excited for a long time, because I was recommended to this forum by a friend, and I told my friend the first time I got to the Merit.
The feeling of receiving merit is a sense of accomplishment and a sense of participation in the forum.
It makes me think that forums are chatting and discussing with friends, without a sense of distance.

Of course, we'll be happy if we get one, although it's hard to get merits we should not stop creating a good post and be creative on our post, especially if we are in a signature campaign, we are paid to contribute so always do your best not only for merit but also for your own reputation and for the campaign you are working on.

Sometimes, yes.
It is something it has seldom happened to me with "likes" on other social media.

I assume it is because, merits here and positive feedback are a bit harder to get, most of the users have limited merit to provide, leading people to think a fraction of a second before giving some merit.

My conclusion: Merits are likes on steroids.

I'm not checking my merits anymore I checked if I have deleted messages or a warning from spamming, I am more concerned about the quality of my posts more than the merits I'm getting, merits will just come if you think you think and feel you are doing good in your posts, those who are the lower ranked members who wants to join bounty are more concerned on their merits, I'm in a position where I enjoy what I'm doing without any pressure for merits.

It’s tough to get merits these days. It seems most merit is handed out in meta for really high quality posts or the wall observer which is like a gang of friends, full of camaraderie. I don’t post very often in either of those areas so I don’t get much merit.

I don't know how you can talk like that:

Merit summary for DeathAngel

This happiness continues one step further when you keep on accumulating merits and then one day you find yourself that you are ranked up.

I just got this sweet feeling yesterday  Wink

In my case, what made me happy recently was that I have been able to earn more merits than my activity. Until now I had always had less merit than activity and recently I have surpassed it. As for seeing that someone has given me a merit, it makes me happy, but as I get used to it you I don't feel so enthusiastic, as before, as The Pharmacist commented.

I feel grateful and happy whenever I receive merit since I know that it is hard to gain.
And I am already happy and contented to my current rank but if I could rank up then I would be happy to do it.
For so long I only achieve to gain 8 merit so I already accepted it (I would be FM for long time) and thankful for those who sent me merits.

Yeah for me it's the same. My merit count is still fairly low, so as soon as I see I got one new merit I am checking as well and it makes my day. It's kind of hard to get merits on the forum. What I noticed is that it's completely random, sometimes you get 3-4 merits in a month, and sometimes 0. It will take a long time to rank up.

Definitely who does not feel good when they are being appreciated for their work here in terms of merits is considered. It is just like likes you get in your social media when you fell good so same ways it is mostly like a like option where people credit you with there merits for the post you have written which they found it useful.

I always check my profile if I receive merits or not. If I did receive a couple of merits then I feel happy about it and it made me think that I can contribute to the forum even if it's not much of a contribution. Receiving merits mean you are capable of making good quality posts or threads. I've seen your post and I gave you merits which you deserve it. Keep contributing to this platform.

Just imagine how you will feel when you are given merits that you think you never worth it, maybe because you never believe you can be merited from such post. When I read about your post, I immediately thought of the dopamine rush that the "like" or "heart" button in different social media platforms give. This is just how the world works now that we feel that rush once we have been acknowledged or validated with our post. I value merit than likes though, lol.

Oh yes, this is crazy with likes and hearts. The world has gone mad. Getting Likes! What do people not do for their sake? They are willing to risk their lives for them. Is this okay? And ask yourself what are these likes and hearts for? Everyone wants to prove their worth.
It's the same here. If a person wakes up and runs to look for what he received the merit, this is a kind of balm for the soul.
Let's be honest. If there was no idea of merits, would many people here amuse themselves with the understanding that they are useful to the forum? And in general, would they strive to bring this benefit? If not, if people help the forum only because of merits, then all their beautiful words are false.

Maybe merits need a new name more centered around dopamine.  Cheesy

It is cool to think something as simple as a merit can brighten someone's day.  Sort of makes me want to rain them down upon as many people as possible to spread positivity.  Probably why I do so.  Smiley

Some dopamine headed your way my friend, and some for the OP as well even though this post is breeding grounds for more spammy sig campaign inflating nonsense like this post.

Most time I get tired posting in the forum because I have never gotten any merit. Since merit is away of encouraging member to keep posting quality post. I will be happy when I shall be given merit and that will makes me to be more dedicated in the forum.

Please leave.

Really this is what the forum has come to now where this kind of stuff gets to stay up... because the poster found a way to brainlessly shitpost without breaking any rules.

I'm starting to think this forum should be called Merittalk.

I detest social media and want no part of it, but I've read and watched videos about what you just mentioned, the dopamine rush from those likes and other forms of affirmation on various social media sites.  I tend to think that's a very unhealthy way to stimulate the pleasure center of your brain--or at least it could be if you become dependent on other people's reactions to your posts/pics/videos/whatever in order to feel pleasure (or to feel validated as a good person).

Same here, social media is pretty much a one-up game plus all the pretentious act. Just a random one-liner from some influencer, like "heyyy" can already generate thousands of likes.

I also don't like too much to participate in social media interaction unless it's necessary with either work or communicating with loved ones. I do appreciate what it has done to each and every one of us when communicating but I think the part of us, being human, makes us vulnerable to social hacking and the likes.

I was here before the merit system launched, so I don't really need anyone's approval to boost my ego because I never got that before--plus I'm pretty confident that at the very least I'm not a shitposter.
I think we all know who are the ones who really put effort into the post and not just repeating the same sentiment by everyone who posted before the poster or something. I believe in the added value to which you can improve the topic and share your input towards it.

I can go weeks without getting a single merit and still know that I put a decent amount of thought into my posts and that at least they're not complete crap.  And man, I haven't even been trolled by the likes of cryptohunter (who called me a troll and a shitposter if I'm not mistaken) in many months, so I'm content with that.
People who attack that way are probably insecure themselves. As long as you know that you are doing the right thing and you know the truth in what you do, you shouldn't be affected by those kinds of things, right?

To add to my previous post here, I actually feel better when I can give out a bunch of merits to members who deserve them than when I receive merits myself.  Having said that, I hope I'm not contributing to other members' dopamine addiction by showering them with merits.  Wink

Anyway, I have the same sentiment with it. I do love when the post that I made that I knew that "could" get some merit, gets merited. It's worth it to have that feeling when you know you made an effort to get on and post everything you know with the topic.

Obviously. Most people here loves getting merit for the sake of ranking up and getting those $$$$ because Signature spam is the easiest way to make money.

Oh definitely! I mean, it makes me happy to see that someone merited my post because I know that I made an actual contribution to the forum.

Merits doesn't necessarily mean you contributed to the forum. Merit is just a form of internet like here. You can literally get 30 to 40 merits from trolling and licking the shoe of someone.

To be honest, before the merit implementation in the forum, all I cared was to rank-up my account and comply with the requirements stipulated in the campaign signatures. After the said implementation, I realized that I needed to create post valuable to the forum for the benefit of the whole community. I started reporting scam ICO projects and it made me happy to see that I am helping others avoid the same mistake that I committed (investing in a ponzi).

I mean it does feel good if you received merit because it just means that someone appreciates your post here in the forum, I don't get a lot of merits recently so I feel good when I received 1, Of course at some point I also wanted to be a hero member or a legendary, but for someone who always receives a lot of merits, it might not matter anymore for them.

For some legendary members, it wouldn't really be that important since they are already legendaries, and probably the forum is already their hobby helping other members, etc.

The merits are not something that you could always get, still helping members and spreading information about cryptocurrency, making a discussion is the main point here in the forum.

Hm.  That's probably an extremely unintended (but positive) consequence of the merit system, something Theymos probably didn't anticipate--that receiving merits would make someone's day.  And if getting merits can make your day, that's probably true for many other members as well.

And yeah, I like receiving merits because it's validation that I'm making posts that either people agree with or enjoy reading.  I'm long past the point where I get excited about it, though, and in fact I just wrote in another thread that I'm encouraging members not to give me merits, but to save them for lower-ranked members who make good posts and need them to rank up.  I can't rank up any more than I already have, so merits don't serve any functional purpose for me, nor do I really need that validation anymore.

Even as a Sr Member, every Merit still count. Maybe it's just some mere number but hey, e-penor Grin
Of course; even for Hero members merits still count (assuming they have less than 1000) since they need them to get to Legendary status, the holy grail of ranks for members who registered shortly before or any time after the merit system was rolled out.

I reviewed your account and noticed that you are not getting much merit, so probably 1 merit builds your day. Reading your post, I get the impression that you are writing only to get some kind of praise.
Well, if getting a post merited makes OP's day, I wouldn't doubt that he's aiming to earn them.  There's nothing inherently wrong with that as long as his (or anyone else's) posts are good.  Some members try to earn merits through sneaky means, like creating topics such as this (which is why I'm not meriting his post; I'm a skeptic as well), and others think that writing a lengthy post is sufficient and neglect quality.  But if you look at the posts of members who've earned the most merits, some posts can be short but on-point and others can be long and very well thought out.  It's pretty easy to tell if someone has actually put in some effort as opposed to trying to appear to have put in effort.

i don't think there would be anyone who would not be happy on getting the merits. Merits means a lot for those who are low ranked, because it gives them opportunity to rank up. Those who are already ranked up, they may not found merits that interesting.

Even as a Sr Member, every Merit still count. Maybe it's just some mere number but hey, e-penor Grin

It gives a sense of pleasure and happiness on getting merits and for the whole day i remain full of joy.
Do you guys have similar feelings when your post get merited ?

Although I have plenty of merit, I still enjoy receiving some more. They give some sort of reassurance, they show that I was helpful, and they also some sort of fuel for keeping it up.
Since you still have plenty of room for ranking up, I can very well understand that for you this kind of feelings are even more powerful.

I login my account and if i see my merit count increase, i quickly move to my merit section to see which of my post was merited and who gave me merit.

Actually I stopped doing that and started using TryNinja's bot for notifications  Wink

Merit is, figuratively speaking (actually, writing to be precise), a pat on the back. Everyone loves to have such moments of "well done" for a job rightly executed once people get to read your posts and have merit to throw on the posts at the same time. Otherwise, your posts pass unnoticed. That's the way I see it. Personally, I feel happy when I get merit thrown on posts I make. Once I notice that increment, I want to go back and read the posts that were merited to know what would've caused someone to merit it.

You should be even more enthusiastic in doing posts that are construction, especially for you and others, it's okay to be happy, when other people give sMerit/award for you, but you have to make giving by people a ledge Moment for the next and make your motivation higher, that you can do and earn even more (sMerit) from other members in this forum.

Do you guys have similar feelings when your post get merited ?
Yes, the feeling is definitely there. What crossed my mind instead was not happy and happy when other members gave me sMerit, actually anxiety haunts me, questions often arise in my mind, is this the last sMerit I got, because I really have to give the best especially for myself and others in achieving 1000 Merit based on the system that has been run.
That's my feeling....! other people I don't know what they are thinking.

Merit is a kind of award so basically everyone should feel a bit better when they receive merit. I don't say on behalf of others, personally I feel happy when merit knocks my door.

However, my reminder is
  • Don't count your merit, let your merit counts.
  • It would give you fresher mind, and more time to compose your posts.
  • Received merit number does not decide who you are, how quality of your contributions here
  • Sneak peek: I used to count my merit every day but I stopped months ago.

It's only natural that people like to see that their contribution is getting some appreciation. Merits is the way that content is valued on this forum and most users like to receive them. Being filled with joy or sorrow (if you don't get some) is a bit too extreme, and my happiness certainly isn't influenced by my merit count. I do check my history to see which of my posts and threads got merited. It's a good way to see what the community likes and dislikes if no merits have been awarded.

I reviewed your account and noticed that you are not getting much merit, so probably 1 merit builds your day. Reading your post, I get the impression that you are writing only to get some kind of praise. I'm a skeptic by nature, so don't be surprised at my answer. In general, all topics started about merit completely change the idea of the forum itself. The forum is not about merit.  But how often do we forget about it and remember only about the reward for our posts, thereby gaining self-satisfaction and pleasing our vanity.

I am not running after merits but yet i am happy to get merits. Secondly you are right that i don't get many merits but still i get around 40-50 merits in last 120 days which is much higher number when i see many people getting even less than 10 in this time period.
Lastly, this thread was not made to get praise or merits, i just expressed my feelings.

Almost everyone should be happy. But I don't get happiness when I get merit. I study harder and keep looking for something that can benefit anyone.

If you are merited, you will be filled with joy, I see it as a sense of pleasure and thinking you are contributing to quality posts on this forum. Someone will feel good he is helping others, also someone will fill good if others are helping and understanding it. I too feel good as my merit is increasing because I see it as a way that I have contributed on this forum. It is just like being good in class, at office or anywhere, those bring good feelings that the person is brilliant and intelligent and helping.

Yes! of course we feel delighted when somebody appreciates content of our post and awards  it merit. All Human need appreciation of their efforts & hard work, this is quite natural  Having said that, we should  also not hold our sMerits and give them to deserving posts without thinking twice because there is no benefit of holding smerits for long time.
