I'm new user but I've had some mining experience back in the GPU times. I am interested in doing that again since I've got free power access but no equipment except some old Radeons that are out of the game now :/

I'm currently living in Germany, so if any EU guys with some used ASICS wanna get rid of them for few bucks let me know

oh and the grid could possibly stand something powerhungry like a S3/S4 but I have limited space and only one room to spare for the the noise/heat so I won't go bulk

Yes. When I ran my TerraMiners I had a 20A circuit for each PSU. And I purchased heavy gauge cords. The ones that were shipped with them were the lowest end crap and they were nearly melting.

Very true people need to consider this. Also by a standard most houses in america run a 100 amp service. Thats only 12k watts at 120.

Someone may have brought this up already (didn't read every post) but keep in mind that people with free power in hotels or apartments may run into circuit overload.

Likely not a problem with older miners, but S4s @ 1400W kill breakers when they stack up.

Huge thank you to you guys for waking me up! I took my Terraminers offline last Fall and figured they were simply worthless. I had no idea there are places around the country with free power.

My miners are now sold via ebay and on their way to a new home!

If you are running the S1 at cool temperature, it's ok but if it is in room temperature, it gets little bit loud, it will get worse with increase temperature. Keep in mind that it does generate tons of heat so prepare for that. All the problems goes away when it's undervolted. You will have virtually no noise, heat and most importantly less power usage (for you it doesn't matter since you have free power) but downside is the hashing power will decrease around 60 to 80GHs.

A Dell Z750P can power 2x S3's without fail. They are amazing power supplies for the price.

I posted a few times back So I figured I would update to show more information.

I have free power unlimited to a extent. Since I am just getting into mining, I really don't know much about the hardware.  I started out with USB sticks ran those till I had enough to get a grid seed. Used those profits and moved up to a s1 and now looking to move up again.

I live in NH or as a region the New England area. Sound doesn't really bother me and if it gets to loud I can always move to another location I have free power at. I know I am not making much off the S1 but at free power = free money any way I look at it. I think My biggest draw back would be the power the power supply powering the unit, not knowing enough about the hardware I do not  know which power supply to buy for the unit I want to use.

I was running a atx 750 for my dual S1 and it ran great until my old power supply apparently cant handle the dual s1 at over clocked it shut off right as the miner starts mining now. So I disconnect one board and it would just find ad the second and it will shut off after I reboot the miner.

So as for power supplies should I but a new ATX 1000 watts for the equipment I am looking to purchase or purchase a HP or dell sever power supply for cheaper? I am looking to purchase a s3 if the price is right. Or unless some one else wants to make a deal of some sorts.

I have 8 S1 to sell. All of them have been undervolted with pencil mod. It averages 120~130 GHs with 120~140W. Let me know if you are interested.

Of course I have limits.  I wish I had unlimited lol.  The power company has upgraded my feeds and given me my own upgraded transformer on the pole though.

I will let everyone know when I figure out what i have left after I finishing setting up my own equipment.

do you have a limit on the amount of power you have available to you either from the power company OR in terms of your breaker-box?

USA South.  I have rooms for miners that are sound proofed from the rest of the house.  I am just trying to figure out how much room I got.

For those who do have "free" power.....may I suggest that you list what State you are in...OR if you prefer you could even suggest instead what region of the country you are in, New England, Mid-Atlantic, Deep South, etc.

Problem is finding these at a good price point. Ordering straight from ehash.com they are too high.

I have one running I thankfully bought from philipma1957, and wish I could find 2 more @ a good price.

If you want something almost dead silent I highly recommend the Avalon 4. You can run it underclocked to aroung 800 GH/s per unit (1.2 TH/s max) in room temperature and the fans are on par with PSU fans, it's insane how silent they are. Bonus is that they really don't create much heat either and you get down to 0.5 W/gh power consumption.

Yeah that's why u adjust the fans at lower speeds. Gets down to below s3 normal sounds.

Yes but aren't those loud? Even when underclocked and undervolted?

The SP20s are actually manageable underclocked at 900Gh/430watts, setting 3 on fan in a 70f ambient office.

If you have free electricity and you live in an apartment you should consider getting a KNC Jupiter. Those are silent power hogs.

SP20, S5, S3 will drive you nuts if you sleep in the same room.

You can also deal with the free power people to run your gear for you .. for a price.

I have lots of gear I just put up for sale actually, but if I can find a cheap enough and trustable 'colo' I'd rather use them to make more $$. LOL

Maybe we can expand to some other countries idea is to see if we get it going in the USA.

yeah  you are just under 10 cents a kwatt.

so your less efficient miners can't run for you.

your c-1 would be good for a free power guy that needs a quiet miner.

the goal would be the two of your cut a deal via pm's you need an escrow i would do it.  you are close by each other you do not need an escrow that works too.

At mods it is strictly an old  mining gear for sale thread to those with free or cheap power.  Seems like a good idea.   I don't mind helping people get the match they need.
