I don't really care much about those symbols as long as I am having fun gambling.
It is the game that makes me have fun the designs are just bonus but most of the time when I see those royal symbols it quickly reminds me of gambling.
I would lie if I say that design doesn't matter because it does and sometimes it is also the reason why people play on a gambling site because it isn't plain and boring.

Same here. And besides, they've been in existence for so long already. So a lot of us are already used to it. I don't think there's something wrong using those symbols. And also, a lot of players are after on the results not on the symbols. This is why sometimes, it doesn't matter to most. And everyone can easily recognize those symbols as compared to customized ones.
Those symbols help them to play the game without any problem. Although the design can be different than the other place, they still see the same symbols from the card. They do not have to learn more about each symbol because they already understand how to play and win the game. If the symbols are different from usual, they need to spend some time understanding, which could be boring for them to learn.

Maybe it should be possible to switch up the basic symbols on a game easily to suite a preference or aesthetic.    Its easy to see why they are used, for ease of use and straight away you know the deal and likely value reflected.   I'm not sure its any negative but variations of design are always possible.    The games I like best are based on legends or myths so again tradational symbols once again but the design of each figure is freely available to vary even on an old theme.
If I dont recognise any of the symbols in a game, it does discourage me at least a while perhaps altogether if I get distracted.   Thats probably the biggest reason why we return to familar symbols.

I do love the Royal Symbol, they're pretty much easy to recognize plus you don't have to get easily confused because you can easily recognize the symbols. Changing something that we have been used to for a long time ago is a really difficult adjustment for the many.
And yet if times change maybe it's better to make changes accordingly? I don't exactly hate Royal symbols but it seems like they should be out soon. Maybe it's too early for that though. If there are people like you that love them, I don't mind them staying. I don't want to be like one of those royal persons who dictate their will to others. Actually, I'm glad there is something people can love. I can always choose to play other slots, there are thousands of them after all.

What could be a symbol that could replace the royal symbol?

In most games, a royal symbol definitely has better known than we think if there is a replacement. Just like a chess game, there is a Queen and King, although there's no Jack like the symbol of the cards and slots but still it is easy to recognize.

I guess the reason is that it is easy to recognize and we have been used this for a long time ago and I think there's nothing to change.

While it's true the modern playing cards were developed hundreds of years ago (and were also the trigger for John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich to request two slices of bread to put his meat between so that he didn't get the playing cards stained with oils from the meat...) it should also be noted that the modern playing cards evolved from the ancient Tarot Cards sharing symbols and meanings between the two types of decks.

Yes, I had a girl who was very fond of reading old tarot cards.  She had many books on card fortune-telling, so I studied Tarot cards well.  Their symbols are not very similar to those of traditional playing cards.

It is clear that many centuries have passed since then.  It's been a long journey.  Long evolution.

On traditional maps, spades are spearheads (i.e. soldiers).  One of the suits of cards is crosses (i.e. monks).  Tambourines are diamonds (i.e. merchants, usurers, bankers).  Worms are hearts (i.e. poets, writers, etc.).

There is a great sacred meaning in playing cards.

They don't seem to be a problem for many so I don't think there's anything to change with it plus if we start changing now, we will have a hard time adapting since we are accustomed to the Royal Family.
I don't know why these people make this a problem when the truth is this is not, Maybe they are just having nothing to play now that's why this is what they do.

If you have nothing to do then say nothing and let others just enjoy the games.

I'd love to read your points of view!  Cheesy
From my point of view, playing cards with pictures of kings and queens have their own history that must be remembered until now, I have read history about the origin of the royal symbol.

The initial symbol is not the kingdom/queen, for example the origin card.

And change to a symbol like this.

As times change, there are probably hundreds of symbols and numbers in playing cards today, one of which is the royal symbol.
In my opinion, the symbols of the kingdom or the king and queen are representatives of the ruling figures in 970 BC, representing the kingdom of the Roman Empire or better known as the Macedonian Empire, the conquerors also involve figures in the Hebrew Bible, is a good symbol and needs to be remembered in gambling until now.

But for the symbol itself the kingdom that is in the Bitcoin slot, I don't think it becomes an obstacle or problem, actually I think it's better, combining the history of royalty, gambling and Bitcoin, this is where every gambling addict prefers to play with Bitcoin in slots or casinos, without having to forget the origin of the existing royal symbols.

I personally could care less for this graphics stuff.

As long as the slots have a good RTP and a decent volatility level, I'm fine with whatever the game developer decides to throw at me in terms of the graphics.

I do know others that think the completely different way though, and they tend to like slots such as Fruit Party, Sweet Bonanza etc. just based on the graphics alone.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that, but I personally don't see the point especially when the development costs are likely passed onto you through the form of higher house edges.

Really interesting. Nearly one week in and now the results have shifted from 'NO, royals shouldn't go to history' to 'Don't really care'.

My conclusion with these results would be that most players here at bitcointalk don't really pay attention to the symbols. They care more about the winning opportunities, bonus rounds, RTP, etc. I'm curious whether the situation will change, but I somehow don't think that will happen.  Cheesy

Well I honestly like. It's like asking why people like antique furnitures or why corsets are in the fad again ? For me it's antique and gives the whole thing a whole different look and meaning. But yes ofc they should not use it as it is, they can always do things like :

Use their mascots instead of kind etc. Make them more lively and interactive. Which will make it more indulging.

But more or so at the end of the day as long as the game in interactive and good I do not mind any symbols used. It's the choice of every individual and lazy solutions are something that you can point out ofc but it rather be simple and to the point.

As a gambler who love to play slot games from Play N Go especially Book of Dead, Rise of Merlin, and Legacy of Dead.
I do like the Royal symbols especially when it comes to free spins because the chance to get the symbols is bigger than the other high paying symbols.
Although Royal symbols usually gives low payout, but most of the time it gives better result when it comes to free spins.

If you are going to ask me, the reasons that was mentioned would the reasons why the Royal symbol has remained in slots or card games. It might be a little annoyance not seeing the royals in their cards when they gamble. Also this symbol has already stood the test of time and now is a permanent part of the gambling experience. That is why we even have combinations with the word "royal" in it. It is here to stay and I think it would be an insult to remove them from all forms of gambling.

Whenever I play the slot my concentration is all about hitting the jackpot I don't mind all the icon I'm seeing every gambling sites have different design and I become accustomed to some of them while playing, I'm playing to have some fun and to make money and not on analyzing the design of the gambling site, every gambler have different taste on the site they are playing.
very different from mine mate because for me that symbols and designs is part of my attractions and then starts to try each site and gambling.
I have no problem with symbols in slot game especially regarding royal symbol. I think all the royal symbol that exist today in many slot game are easy enough for most players to remember and they may not care about the graphic appearance as long as the payout of each royal symbol is no different if it is replaced with another symbol. Personally maybe I don't really care about the symbol and I'll keep playing as long as I like the game.
That's it mate, the symbol will take our attention and will decide to try and feel the success each time.

When playing slots I care for graphics and overall experience, gambling is about fun and spending a good time, after all, isn't it? So yeah, graphics, colors, themes contribute to the overall experience. There is an extremely wide range of slots these days, so for any kind of payout you are likely to find many slots with different themes, so why bother with the boring ones?  Cheesy
IMO slots with royals aren't really interesting, a lot depends on the provider also. I personally really like Relax, Yggdrasil, and Thunderkick.

Ah, absolutely agree with this. And the providers you mentioned ROCK! Also ELK Studios, Play'n GO, and Push gaming have some really cool slots with amazing visuals.
The main ideas why Royals should remain in history are:
- Lazy solution
- Don't contribute to the thematic experience
- Ruin the possibility of players to fully immerse into the storyline
- Slots without Royals are more 'graphically rich'
- It's better for providers to invest the time creating Royals into creating themed symbols

What a load of rubbish. You know why "lazy" solutions are the best? Because they are usually the simplest format to represent something. Numbers 2,3 and 4 are all trying to say the same thing in a slightly different way. "Royal" figures can be represented in any form you like and do not need to be restricted to a certain graphical representation, they are simply a different way of showing certain numbers. There is good reason that "old" stuff has lasted for such a long time and it's because no one came up with better solutions that were easily memorable - people aren't going to bother trying to relearn how to use a deck of cards because some marketing nobody decided that royalty was bad. It seems these people have nothing better to do than sit around all day trying to reinvent the wheel.

It's not necessarily rubbish. Some of the most popular slots these days like Jammin Jars, Reactoonz, Goblin's Cove, Starburst, Gonzo's Quest, and many more are actually slots without Royals. If they remain popular and widely played, I guess players do enjoy them even without the Royals. As for why Royals still exist, it's obvious in the reposnses that for some players they provide a simpler experience and that's perfectly fine and acceptable. Nevertheless, I think that we'll see less and less from them as most new games come without them while providers try to focus on the visual experience more.

I think the shift is obvious even in crypto casinos. Proprietary provably slots used to be so simple, but now casinos are releasing more graphically advanced solutions. I think that's going to be the main trend moving forwards but we'll see.

To be honest,I don't care.It doesn't matter what symbols are being used. The question is how they were used.
I assume that this is more of a web design problem rather than a problem with features, functionality, etc. of every online casino.I like online casinos that have simple straight to the point look, instead of casinos that have heavy loading webpages with a shiny, colorful,"all over the place",confusing web design.

Hey mates,

I hope I have an interesting discussion for all of you slots fans here.

I'm wondering whether you think Royal symbols should not be used anymore? Do you perhaps like them instead? Or do you not even care?  Huh

If you're not sure what Royal symbols are - These are the symbols represented by cards. Casino game developers usually include the highest-ranked ones – Ace, King, Queen, Jack, and 10. Sometimes, you may even find random 9s and 8s all over the reels.

One of our iGaming experts discusses that these are a lazy solution, especially in heavily animated and themed video or 3D slots. Guy Hasson seems to agree through one of his interviews. He's an iGaming veteran who worked with iGaming giants Playtech and Playtika.  Cool

How do you feel about it? Until recently, bitcoin slots were quite simple I'd say. Nowadays we're seeing some cool and creative solutions. Are you in for the payouts only or do you care about the looks too?

I'd love to read your points of view!  Cheesy

In general, playing cards were invented in the Middle Ages, at the beginning of the Hundred Years War.

They were invented for the entertainment of the king of France.  He was a fool.

Playing cards and their corresponding symbols (aces, kings, queens, jacks, spades, hearts, diamonds, crosses, etc.) are very ancient symbols.  They have a great sacred meaning.  This is an ancient tradition.

In my opinion, their use in modern gambling is permissible.  This demonstrates the strength of tradition.  Continuity.

Respect for our shared past.

Well, I don't think these you have mentioned above were the reason why the Royal symbol on the slot games or in a card game has remained. Perhaps because gamblers already know how to identify or determine what card it is. If there is who want to change the symbol will perhaps become confused about what card it is. So the popularity of the cards should remain on this game and nothing will change. A slot without royal does not look like a slot game. If you are going to ask me, --yes, I like the royal symbol on the slots or cards. It is easy for you to identify the cards.

Yes mate, it seems that many players share the same idea. They prefer the simplicity of understanding the cards and not bothering with paytables more than the visual experience.

It's an interesting topic and that's why I started this thread. Was interested in different point of views and it's really nice to see what players think for something that hasn't quite changed/evolved while everything else evolved. We have fantastic slot mechanics, innovations of all kinds, and yet the Royals are still there. It seems now that there is a good reason why providers are still using them quite often.  Smiley

It is something that depends on the player it is very personal sometimes you just play, sometimes you just want to wager and you do not care if it is the least impressive slot, but with the great variety that exists and the growth of more and more fans of slots, there are slots for all kinds of tastes. Although volatility, update HE among others are actually more important.

In my case, put the symbols you want, I just want to see profits.

I don't really find any problem about the symbol since this is what the majority known already but if you think you have a better idea what symbol you want to replace with them then go ahead and sign a petition or whatever that would make your idea be reasonable enough to let casino owner change it. But I don't think they want to change the long history symbols for royal it is what it is and it's not in the slot either.

I think they left it like that because not everyone will play slot forever, some of us will play card games too. So I think that's the reason why they have to left it as it is.

In general, it's not actually playing a role in terms of changing the gameplay of a certain gambler especially online.

However, there are gamblers, especially playing at land-based casinos that have casino beliefs and strictly following their own way of gambling and that symbol on certain slots is one of them or we can consider playing a big factor.

We, as an average gambler here in crypto wouldn't understand that so we just have to leave it as it is.
When it comes to choices then this would vary from person to person because some would be looking for specific factors which would interest them

and decided for them to play and if you do tend to search up or see the current poll results then it does show that majority people of this forum

doesnt really care about symbols or whatsoever before playing slots or games that they do like and there would be definitely
things which are preferred and which arent or simply dislike.

Yes, the idea was to invest the time in creating themed symbols. For example, instead of spending 3 hours to create a K symbol, providers could creat a golden coin or a cookie or whatever the theme is.

By the way I don't personally hate them, I just prefer slots that are visually rich and with themed symbols. I even don't particularly mind when the Royals are somehow related to the theme.

Hope it makes sense.  Cheesy

Royal symbol doesn't contribute a quarter to thematic experience thereby making the graphics poor compared to slots without royal symbols. For me since it's lazy I would rather prefer it be left that way for historical purposes so we could tell our own story of what casino was during our time and to also help developers of the newer era to have a system to rely on while working on better projects

I don't think it affects the whole gameplay. I don't either consider it as a problem. There are other features that should be developed in slots than the royal symbols. It would be better if they would offer bonuses or other spin promo offers. That will surely attract more players.

Have no problem with the royal symbols, but sometimes some of them replace them with other more thematic symbols and I have no problem with that either. Maybe more precisely, I don't really care which symbol will be applied, because the main thing is about the game itself because if the game is interesting then any symbols used will certainly not be a problem either, right?

The "royal symbols" are easier to understand mate, therefore I like it better when the game mix the letter with the relevant icon. Users don't want to open (i) to study the payouts before spinning. I immediately know "10" pays low, and "A" pays okay, the highest paying for letter/number symbol. In fact, until now, I don't know whether red stones pay more than the green stones in Tome of Madness, for example. The best solution is to combine the "royal symbols" with the theme IMO.

I guess everyone has their preferences and all opinions are valid. But, so far, according to the results, it seems that most players actually like the Royals. That's surely an interesting outcome.  Smiley

I'm slot lover, frankly speaking I do not really care about symbols or even the theme of the slot as long as the game offers nice features and nice gameplay then I'll play it as long as I want. Royal symbols is indeed almost anywhere, and it is the most used symbols by most providers. I cant say it is as a lazy solution from the providers but I would say it is to keep the game easy to understand and easy to remember especially the payout of each symbol.
Im having the same behavior as yours on where I don't really mind on what those symbols are or should I care yet what matter most that we do enjoy a particular slot that we do play on basing up with our interest. Its true that it will vary into each player since there are once who are really mindful on this manner but im sure
that majority wouldn't really mind much but only few ones.

^ I don't even think just because of a lazy solution, royal symbol on any cards games or even slots they are commonly used because gamblers know those cards deck and the order in which each card suit goes and since these belong to the gambling culture and already accustomed by most newcomers in gambling. So I think it would not bother us if we gamble with images of Royal Symbols on slots online, it just a common image that everyone will know. The whole thing purpose of this is because the royal symbol is easy to remember by gamblers.

I rarely play slots so it doesn't really affect or bother me or maybe I just got accustomed to it but as long as it doesn't negatively impact the gameplay of a gambler I say why not and just like what dothbeats says gambler easily recognize it and understand the value of it. there are tons of variety of slots game that gamblers can pick. if they are uncomfortable playing on a slot with a Royal symbol filler and it affects their gameplay, I'd say find another slot game that he could comfortably play.

I couldn't care less about the symbolism that they are placing on slots, but the royal symbols seemed to be the most acquainted symbols that denotes a value of a certain object, most especially on gambling. For example, if you see an ace, king, or a queen on your draws, you immediately know that it's of high value and could bring in good profits. Perhaps it's a personal preference to look for other symbolism on slots which you would enjoy looking at, but personally, the simpler the setup, the better it is—at least for me.

Well, for me the most important aspect of slots game is the house edge. The lower the better. The graphical figures used on the game by the developers stay on second plan and in fact royal symbols don't bother me at all.
I'm more used to see the letters (A, K, Q, J...) instead of the cards' images (king, queen, joker...), what is a good thing, as it's easier to mix the letters to the game's thematic than incorporating a king, queen or joker to slots which don't belong to medieval or renaissance themes.

Smart is not enough, there must be skills
I'm slot lover, frankly speaking I do not really care about symbols or even the theme of the slot as long as the game offers nice features and nice gameplay then I'll play it as long as I want. Royal symbols is indeed almost anywhere, and it is the most used symbols by most providers. I cant say it is as a lazy solution from the providers but I would say it is to keep the game easy to understand and easy to remember especially the payout of each symbol.
It's true that we can't tell the difference here because the symbol has been around for a long time in gambling, so for me this is not a lazy provider, but with the characteristic royal symbol that it is a sign of very high gambling and I also don't really understand poker the slots that I often play if it's in the slot symbol is no reason for me this is still fun.
But people always think why the royal symbol is always associated with gambling maybe it's just history where they have proven that gambling has existed since centuries ago.

If there were a theme (such as the Pharaohs, or, the Romans or some other period in Antiquities) that had relevance for *just* that game, then yes, placing Royal motifs such as crowns, swords, shields etc would be appropriate.

However, just having a crown and a court jester are lazy, even if it were for an historical figure such as King Henry the eight, Elizabeth the first, or Richard the Third or some other relevant monarch.

Not really one to nitpick on it tbh. I don't actually mind seeing royal symbols, heck I'm more used to them since it's been used by almost all kinds of slots since, well, forever. Can't really say that it's a lazy solution but rather the market has just adjusted to seeing it so much, that it's almost quite natural to see it. To the point that any complaints about it are almost non-existent since it's already a "natural". Though I would appreciate something new, it isn't really a necessary change.

I don't care about the symbols in a slot machine. The only thing I care is for the slot to have a high RTP,more than 96% and to have a beautiful and addicting bonus round. On top of that it should also have frequent payouts and medium volatility. As for royal or non royal symbols I don't have any problems with that.

I don't really care! I don't have any special feelings about "royal symbols", I either like a slot or not!

People play all kinds of slots, and there're so many of them... with or without "royal" symbols! I like more animated slots, with more lines and mega ways, but from time to time I play some simple slots as well!
I guess there will always be people who will like traditional slots, so they will not go to history! As we can see all new casinos have this kind of slots in their offer...

They don't seem to be a problem for many so I don't think there's anything to change with it plus if we start changing now, we will have a hard time adapting since we are accustomed to the Royal Family.
I agree, there is no problem for it as a symbol, to be honest the only thing that we should worry about is trying a different iteration of the traditional Royal symbol. For example, instead of a Standard King Symbol, you can redesign it to be a Japanese Emperor or something in the Feudal Japan.

As you say, these seem a lazy solution and not really imaginative. However, I think some players that actually play to different betting games, e.g. poker, d find royal symbols interesting and familiar, so they would actually have a more engaging experience with these. In any case, it is pretty simple to run an A/B experiment on this, so if you are seeing royals around is because the betting house is actually making profit from it, since the development cost of including other graphics is not that much anyway.

With so many games including these symbols I agree that it's a lazy solution but at the same time it's not that bad since you already know what symbols are low paying and which ones are the premiums.

I voted for no since I find games more enjoyable without royal symbols like reactoonz, rich wilde tome of madness, razor shark to name a few. Don't get me wrong I still enjoy games with royal symbols but for me playing with symbols you don't know kind of enhances the experience.

Cool

How do you feel about it? Until recently, bitcoin slots were quite simple I'd say. Nowadays we're seeing some cool and creative solutions. Are you in for the payouts only or do you care about the looks too?

I'd love to read your points of view!  Cheesy
