Getting a license is really easy. You can get a license from a country that supports gambling and running an online casino makes it very convinient for you to apply wherever you want because there's no rule that your server must be located in the country that provides the license.

Many online casinos get registered in Curacao, Malta, Cyprus.

Casinos that aren't licensed are not worse than those with a license. Licenses cost you money so you need a decent turnover to be able to afford it. Many operators don't apply especuially when the business is in aa early stage.

Lol, wtf you're telling to others. Without license your domen name can be blocked anytime (because of that many bitcoin casinos have black list of countries, like USA, because if they will accept people from USA without license, they will be seized) if any customer will complain to goverment. The best way is to buy offshore license (like Baham island or Cyprus) because this countries have agreement with UK and EU about gambling policy.

You can start your business without license, but be ready to stay in darkness forever.

I think it is still in need for you to get a license before opening ot operating a Bitcoin gambling site or online gambling site because having a license to operate gives legitimacy to your site and it will help you to encourage people to dive into your site because they are comfortable and will entrust your site for the reason that you have license so the intention for running an online Bitcoin casino seems to legible and safe. People for sure are looking for trusted site and that will lead them for a search on a Bitcoin casino that have license for security and assurance that their funds will be safe at your site. Better secure first a license before running the site just for legal purposes. Better do also consult a legal expert for laws regarding that and search into which countries your players are target because some countries prohibit existence of online casinos.

Any reason why you are necro-bumping a six year old thread?

It is quite clear that you don't need a license to open a Bitcoin only casino in most places, otherwise there wouldn't be literally hundreds of unlicensed bitcoin casinos on operation.

Nothing more to say about it, stop necrobumping threads!

It is a must to have the online casino registered. The registration process varies based on the country. Registration and holding of license makes it more trusted platform for gambling than the unregistered casinos. As of now we haven't got a perfect authority that provides licensing for online casinos. Different casino hold different license, maybe someday this will also go under complete regulation.

No it is not a must.

One of the biggest casinos around have no licenses at all. Freebitco.in for example have no licenses yet they attract thousands of players every day.

As long as you don't deal FIAT a license isn't necessary. It would be a plus but definitely not a must.

Well, in gambling business I don't have much idea about the license for online casinos. It is still gambling. Some countries may not need to have a license for a bitcoin casino but if you want to be safe better to apply for a license. Though online casinos use virtual currencies still it may still be converted into cash that makes it a form of gambling. To avoid the problem in the future it is good if acquire a license to our gambling business and also the legitimacy of the your company.

License is always important why players will trust to your gambling sites if you do not pay taxes or getting license.
Having license to the gambling sites can atract players because once you have that you look more legit but they have gambling sited that don't have any license but it depends also where is your country if it's mandatory to have license better you should get to not cause a problem.
well, a license is really needed because the existence of the license can convince gamblers that the website has a good reputation and can be trusted, but you should know that there are currently gambling places that don't think about it but still run their business as an online gambling place.

This is actually true, most gambling websites will not acquire license at the very early stage of their operations. They can apply for license, either from Curacao, Malta, Cyprus and to add Estonia for inexpensive and fast processing of gambling license. But I'm curious if the OP finally got his own casino. He was last active last Oct 2017, did he launch his bitcoin casino in the forum without us knowing that he is behind such casino?

Need and should are different things. If you want to start a casino you do not need anything, you just need one website and you have a casino, simple as that.

However if you want to own a proper one that people could have fun with, you should register somewhere, it is not even that much of a trouble because you can register in some shady country with shady laws and keep paying them to make you look legit whereas you are basically not even properly registered anywhere and nothing will happen to you.

All of those coracao or whatever licenses worth literally zero to me for example, even the best places that have it, means zero to me, if I do not trust a place I will not start because of that shady license, either I trust them directly or I do not trust them, license worths nada.

creating a fake license ? hows that possible  . i mean people can click on it and search it  . by that they can find out if the license is legit or not and i think its obvious if the site is fake because of thier designs , banners , fonts , etc  . people do also play on a new site that dont have license yet and i think some old sites still dont have license to but there are also gamblers that plays on them . not all gamblers are going to check license first but they check other factors instead and decide if they will play on it or not but still having a license is a plus point for gambling owners

Some fake website has flawless designs , banners , fonts , etc. But you are right the majority does not look good. Creating a fake license is very possible, I encountered a scam projects before and they have created a fake license but it is not gambling-related, some people will just look at the piece of document and will not bother to verify It, so we need to be careful and take time to read some reviews. I guess those gambling sites without a license has gained trust after existing for a long time with good service. But I am still confused, is license on online gambling really required?

I believe that it depends a lot on where you have the registered office of the company that will manage the casino I believe in America and Europe a license is needed and also guarantees that the games are fair and have economic coverage, other countries (Panama?) are more permissive and perhaps none of this is needed, in other countries games of chance with crypto payments are still prohibited

By the way, does someone know the costs range for a gambling licence issued by Panama? (specifically designed for crypto casinos)
My casino website is in development, hosted in Panama servers.

Also, does someone know what is Panama's policy regarding to cryptocurrencies gambling?
I think yes because an online casino is required to apply for a gambling license  so they allow them to process payments. But I dont know if its the same when opening an online Bitcoin Casino because fiat money is used for betting in a online casino I dont know if they allow to used crypto. But I think there are almost the same but not the way of payment.

if you want to open an online casino and your country requires a license, and you want everything legal, you have to have it. If you think it is not profitable for you then do not open it, but by the way, if you feel it is better to change the country and open it, so do it.

It's good to have a proof that you are a legit casino gambling site, so even if you encounter such issue you can present your papers to prove them that you are a legit company, it's better to have than do not have one at all, and try to get your license from a country where your project is located.

Hi there

Brilliant, this was just what I was looking for.

Thank you for sharing the resources, I have already utilised the information and am moving forward with my project nicely.

Thanks again,
-----------------

In terms of attaining a license for a Casino, that offers Bitcoin as a payment process, I recommend taking a look at Softswiss, who have already helped quite a few white label casino providers in setting up the software and licensing. More details can be viewed below:

https://www.softswiss.com/knowledge-base/bitcoin-casino-software/

I would also take a look at the following resources, as they have helped me considerably in preparing to set up a new casino brand:

http://www.igbaffiliate.com/articles/white-label-casino

More detailed - licensing Data can be reviewed below:

Antillephone, Authorized and Regulated by the Government of Curacao.

Websites / domains can be checked with this particular regulator with the following

https://validator.antillephone.com/validate?domain=www.betchain.com

Betchain is just one example for a live reference

Hope this helps Smiley

I have no ideas in this since I have not yet tried even play in gambling sites. But as far as I know from others it never needs licensed since bitcoin is also has no license because if there will be then I know there will be great tax of that, so it's maybe no.
It depends on which country you are in right now. Because already bitcoins are banned in many countries and gambling isn’t considered well in our society. So if you are trying to open a bitcoin gambling casino in a country where these both things are banned, then no license is required but you must be ready to eat food of jail anytime. So best is to go away from this harmful game.

Why wouldnt you want to be licensed? Are you going to scam people?

Aint it going to be better if the players know they are safer at your side? Heck that is going to pull more investors rather than them having doubts and fear whenever they play at your casino.
Check your country rules.

Running a casino with a license isn't always a guarantee that the casino isn't going to scam people.
There are also enough examples of Bitcoin casino's that are operating without a license without scamming people.

Stuff like this should really be reviewed by an actual lawyer.

It's true that licensing doesn't always guarantee that the casino is not going ti scam people, but again licensing is a factor that many gamblers and players consider before they actually invest their money to try their luck. That's true ont only for casino business but for majority of the businesses as well. It works as a feel food quotient for that particular company.

Also when a proper licensing is obtained using real details of the owner, it marks the good intention ofbthe business as a whole.

That's right, running a casino license isn't a guarantee of good casino because most people can go to the extreme of scamming people and setting up a casino with fake license. But yet, we still need to differentiate a good casino from the bad. If only all casino owners can use their TRUE identity to open  the casino so that they don't get to run with people's money.

Yes, I would imagine that you do need a license. I am not a lawyer or anything but in my wildest dreams it doesn't make sense that you'd be legally allowed to open one without one.

Now, you could obviously open one without a license, but that is just asking for trouble with the law and if you are investing millions or even hundreds of thousands, getting a lawyer to handle this for you is both a trivial, and necessary matter.
I agree on you.I think if you want to make your bitcoin casino be legal, then it must abide with the proper law.Because anything that generates income like the businesses of today have gone and pass through legally. And with that,it would be easier for you to invite and attract customers to play in your online bitcoin casino without much hussles to do.

It depends, there are some online casinos who are hosted on countries that do not care about it after all. Like Panama, Guyanas, and so on.

I was researching the idea to open up an online casino way back (2-3 years ago), that time it needed all sort of licensing from the country it would operate from, how does it work with a bitcoin casino?

It clearly depends on the fiat, if you are going to use a casino who allows people to deposit money from a wire transfer, then you will OBVIOUSLY... need a license from your country.

Quote
It depends on where you want to host the website and it kinda doesnt matter if it's bitcoin gambling or fiat money  you need a licence in either  cases.

But 6 of 10 online casinos do not have a license right now, because they can be created even by a 14 year's old guy.

yes correct need to get an licence to operate for online gambling especially casino, casino online is an international online games every country have an regulation how to become legit the online gambling.
Not all the countries will allow you to go for online casino business. There are some countries that favour online casino but there you have to pay a very high amount of your earning to the government in form of taxes. It will be better to operate your online casino from a country where there are still no tax on the virtual or software operations. Google it for more information and you will find some of those countries.

Yes, in other countries you can license up your online bitcoin casino if you want a legal process but you must accept the consequences that you must need a business permit or other papers documents that to legalized your operation. in this situation also your profit will be cut and controllable and your income will not be transparent in the government, like happen in our country they criticize all digital currency to pay a big taxes if you want it to become a legal.

If you want everything to be legitmate then ya you should register it the problem with having a license is you will need to cut your profits short or increase the house edge. Being legal has many issues involved if you don't want any of those you can still work without a license
It  takes a longer time before you can start your gambling casino if you get license  for your casino it needs a lot of documents business permit or any document needed before you can start your gambling casino..
Since we are in bitcoin we have a freedom to not adding license in bitcoin casino since there are lots of casino online don't had license..
So i see some programmers are selling their bitcoin casino script so you can start  your own gambling site here . promote it with budget to get impression and your gambling could be trusted if you escrow your campaign budget to promote it .

There are hundreds of bitcoin casino which are running without any legal license or any regulatory requirements. If they are only accepting bitcoin as payment method than there is no need to have gambling license but if you like to incorporate game from third party gambling platforms like softswiss they might ask for license.

To run simple dice, blackjack, roulette using available scripts and some custom games (if you have dev to make one) than you can start your casino very next day.

There are countries who prohibits online gambling, some don't even issue license or permits and if you are caught operating an online gambling site without a valid permit, that will result to jail time, you might even get deported if you are a foreigner. Even if your role is just a support like outsourced support team to answer those tickets opened by clients.
In my country there is no casino because the government does not allow to open a casino therefore I don’t know anything about opening a casino, but as I have heard that in Europe and USA or any other country casino is legal and the owners run their casinos openly.

I think that they have the license to op run a casino. The same I am sure will be in case of online casino. There will be a license to open a casino.

1. There is no need for any license - I know plenty of casinos which are not regulated by any law, license or permit.
It's true, my guess there are casino's that are operating without license from the government. As some countries still not recognizing bitcoin as a currency so there's no need for a business like online casino of registering.

2. If bitcoin casino is licensed then it most likely means they have some pretty useless license obtained from Panama, Cura-Cao or other free-state.

Seems likely.

3. License won't prevent a casino from defrauding money, the owner will be able to run off with the money with no problems if he would want to.

It's just a possibility but for the customers/gamblers license is quite a good assurance for their safety and legitimacy.

I believe that it's basically the same thing it doesn't matter the type of currency people will use to do the gambling as long as it is a casino, you will have to license it and there is no two ways about it.
Yes because one cannot rum casino without special permit from the government and for that he will have to obtain a license. I think that this rules will be there in online casinos because gambling is gambling if offline or online. License is must and there must be rules for all the gamblers to gamble on a specific site as there are rules of gambling offline and in regular casinos. No one can violate the rules and policies of the casino.

The casino software usually does not need a license to use it, if it is a paid script though of course you would need a license from the creator to make use of it. However, if you are asking if a license is needed when operating it from the government then it depends on your laws. However, usually there are better jurisdictions to register your casino like Curacao.

2. If bitcoin casino is licensed then it most likely means they have some pretty useless license obtained from Panama, Cura-Cao or other free-state.
3. License won't prevent a casino from defrauding money, the owner will be able to run off with the money with no problems if he would want to.

Just to let you know virtual currency and cryptocurrency is not the same thing, they are differences between the two, bitcoin is a cryptocurreny.
Correct. To give an example (just for the heck of it) of a virtual currency - Coins that you earn by playing cool math games.

Virtual currency is a simulated currency. Meaning it does not have the properties of money. An example is virtual currencies in games. The supply is controlled by the game company, they decide when to issue more (or sometimes not as bugs create duplication).

Digital currency has all the properties of money, while existing on the internet.
It would be a waste of time and derailing the thread to comment here.

OP,it needs a license should you not choose to operate illegally.Everything else is pretty much dependent on your location and laws.
In my country gambling is a crime so there is no chance for opening a casino in my country because it is the place related to gambling and all the people who want to gamble get together in casino.

I gamble in my local places which the security institutes do not know about because if they informed by some sources they will seal that place and will arrest all the gamblers. Therefore I cannot gamble openly. And the opening of a casino is not possible due to the strict law.

Hi Guys,

I was researching the idea to open up an online casino way back (2-3 years ago), that time it needed all sort of licensing from the country it would operate from, how does it work with a bitcoin casino?
some casino software sites claim no licensing needed?

Thanks
pete

There are countries who prohibits online gambling, some don't even issue license or permits and if you are caught operating an online gambling site without a valid permit, that will result to jail time, you might even get deported if you are a foreigner. Even if your role is just a support like outsourced support team to answer those tickets opened by clients.

You definitely need it once you turn big (when authorities starts paying attention) ... otherwise you could face a serious legal issues (details depends on your country).
Most of casinos is registered in some "tax paradise countries" (to minimize tax from gambling profits)

Seriously, you don't need license to operate bitcoin gambling site, because it is a virtual currency, not a real currency. Smiley

Sorry but I am not agree with you sir/ma'm. For me, licence is needed in opening an online Bitcoin Casino. Many people want to open up their own on line casino but they can't imagine  actually going through all the steps to get one started. Online casinos are being extremely complicated and difficult to open, But this is not as hard as it seems, as long as you follow the guidelines for having licence.

Its not simple to open a casino, licensed casino means that casino is registered and operates under the laws of the state where its registered.
Some countries do not grant licences to foreign casinos, according to their law just casinos located on their territory can have license for online casinos. Some countries allows gambling but just under their surveillance and understand strict conditions.
If you target some area you need to know laws there, in every country is different, and you need to know for whom you are making your casino available.

If we do really need or like to build up casino business then the things that comes into our mind is the legality of such business and i wont really risk to operate with the risk on having the chance on getting in prison because you do violate this is why before tending this thing to be done better to seek out some lawyers first on your country regarding on the legality on such business.

and it would be safer if we put gambling funds in licensed online casinos, because with that we do not have to worry about losing the funds we will use to gamble, even though this is a gamble but licensing is very important to get, actions that are prohibited by some countries, but as long as it does not harm others there is nothing wrong for us to earn money from there

If your plan of a gambling site is to operate below the radar and focus on just operating within section of the market then you probably won't need to get a license because the amount that would be involved won't be enough to raise an eyebrow. But if the plan is to go mega to compete with established names, there is no way to avoid obtaining a license because that is what will give credibility to the project.

Aside that, mere launching on the forum alone will open the site to a lot of scrutiny and verification in which that licence is key in that without which, the project is dead on arrival and the country of residence will determine the costs involved in obtaining such license.

Why do you want to operate your gambling site from a country that requires a license?

The countries that require a license for gambling for money often require also a license for gambling for valuable things and bitcoin is a valuable thing. But there are several countries where you do not need a license for gambling with valuable things like bitcoin.

Not really. Technically all you need is a website and a server.  Most of them do get licensed in Curacel or w/e as a marketing gimmick.

Yes, you need even if most of the Bitcoin casino don't have such a licence  Undecided

The most friendly countries to get that licence are Costa Rica, Malta and Panama

hey Johny,

thanks for stopping by, can you pm me more info re those scripts?
cheers

also, what country do you suggest to set up the business from? the licensing fees in Panama are $60k per year, somehow I doubt the guys buying your script paying these fees,
in fact I would be surprised if 10% of the btc gambling sites are actually licensed.

cheers

I don't think you'll need a license.
Depends on country but mostly it's not needed.

Btw. Check my signature, it could be useful.

In Nevada and New Jersey one can actually apply for a legal license and be federally protected (only for them particular state citizens however) Don't think one can't "find you" because your bitcoin based only.

Seems like you might draw unwelcome attention if you open a US based gambling website.  I assume they are more relaxed in countries like Panama, as long as you pay them some sort of license or tax money?

Don't forget it is illegal to offer a casino to US players.

No idea, but if you do a whois search on all the bitcoin gambling sites, they are all located in Panama.

I think you can do some research into Panama gambling regulation. They must be the most relaxed that is why so many sites are hosting in Panama. Even real casino sites which accept fiat currency are located in Panama.

cool, thanks,
these are there to avoid licensing? or because the licensing is cheaper over there?

for example SoftSwiss claims no licence needed to operate a bitcoin casino:
