It is possible to give. I think that if your post is meaningful and liked by the member, you can get the merit. Probability is less in my opinion.

No. Why would they? The merit system was implemented exactly to try stop this behaviour of just shitposting in off topic to rank up. Now no matter how hard you shitpost you'll get nowhere if you don't have anything meaningful to say.

Close to zero, given that most posts in Off-topic are meaningless drivel that serve no purpose other than to inflate one's post count for signature campaigns, though it's possible the merit system will lead to an improvement in post quality. One can only hope.

In most threads in the off topic where most newbies gather and talk about off topic stuff..what are the chances that merit will be given by a full member and above?
