Here in my country, some Bitcoin and other altcoins enthusiasts have already began some meet-ups though I have never been to one and I would like to also associate myself with people of the same mind as far as cryptocurrency is concerned...am sure events like this can be a good way to network with people.

Would like to go to some meetups and chat with people who've been there, done that.  Are there any directories of where people are meeting here on the forum?
most of the meet ups are noted here and you would find some meets in meetup dot com as i have seen many like minded people in many areas who would gather around every week . just try that out ,i am not sure whether i am breaking any rules telling other sites name,if i did mods do notify me.

I was wondering if anyone here goes to Bitcoin Meetups and how it is in your area?  I am unfortunately not in a large city right now and in my area there is a Bitcoin Meetup group but it only meets 1 time every other month and it does not seem like a lot attend.
Yeah i would like to know this too, because i dont see any sense in going to the
bitcoin meetup,if there would be like, lol 10 people or something.
I would like to see many people there haha,we are getting big anyway, arent we?

you want to go to one in the UK, last one I went to, I could buy a round of drinks in  Grin

but on a serious note, meet-ups are important as its almost like a sub culture, it lets us know were not alone and were doing the right thing.

I guess its the same everywhere in the world tho, I start talking about BTC to friends and I get the stereotypical response of "oh well, apart from guns and drugs what use is it" then I have to educate them about the media and who controls the flow of real info.

its a propaganda fight more than a freedom fight, we have to unlock peoples ways of thinking, stop crying over your pre-recorded live concert of someone you think you know and wake up, BTC is our ticket out of this circle.

Well hello there!
I've been to one of the meetings held in Portland, Oregon.  They have a regular meeting every 3rd Tuesday of the month.  It was pretty cool, got an opportunity to get a look at one of the first Skyhook ATM demo units within a few weeks of their launching nationally.  Great way to meet locals also interested in bitcoin and occasionally you get to catch a glimpse of some pretty cool project.

I'll attend my first bitcoin meetup this Thursday evening in Asheville, NC. I'm pretty excited. I'll be bringing some bitcoin swag to give away too. Should be a fun night. Grin

It would really be nice to go. But then again, to me, it feels weird to see people you have only talked with insulted and abused online.

I regularly attend these meetups and even made new Bitcoin friends, who gathers socially at restaurants in the area. We buy and sell coins and swap out information on a weekly basis. I would recommend this to anyone who are in the area where these things are held.

My other friends, who are not into Bitcoin yet, do not share my passion, but the people at these meetups do, and this makes it special. ^smile^

Been to a few local meetups and out the area ones and always good things happen and get to meet new people. Well worth the trip out if a good turn out and can always view your ideas and also get to meet good people to grow a business or even partner up. If I had the time and money to travel to more within and out the UK I would but time is main thing with most events and can often take a lot of time and effort to get to so I go to ones that are local and if I know theirs bigger events  I will go to if can afford travel costs.

Are there any meetups in the United States?

Hmm let's see: http://bfy.tw/4xYo   Smiley

I attended 1 meetup in Massachusetts.  There were about 10 of us.  I was expecting to see some trading, but it was very low key, kinda boring, kinda awkward, like it was a first date.  Some people were talking some interesting technical stuff, but not sure if I would attend any more.

I've never been in meetup. So sad. I live in an area that I don't know who except me know bitcoin. I have some friends who know bitcoin but we live in far distance.

I've been into 1 meetup so far here in Tehran (Iran) and it was last year, more like a conference though. There was a guy who is Iranian but has citizenship of US and each year he organizes 1 meetup completely with his own expenses (in terms of rent for the place/food and few giveaways) and introduces BTCitcoin to new people as well as talks with those who are veteran on the fields and discuss problems that exists and how to find the best solution.

I know there's a bitcoin meetup that happens fairly often in my city, however, I've never actually attended it. I am interested, though. It seems like a fun way to network with people.

I have been to one a long time back, only 3 people showed up, I am sure there are more people in the city who are completely familiar with Bitcoins but maybe they prefer to remain anonymous. There was one more organized a little away from my town but it was cancelled due to no interest.
