This question would have been responded to for you to get a yes Ir no answer if it were altcoins because they have people who claim ownership to them. Thus, I think that is the difference with bitcoin as ownership is not identified and so it properties are strictly for the public.

Due to the fact that the official creator of bitcoin does not exist, Satoshi Nakamoto is only a pseudonym and his identity has not been established, and no one has a patent for the invention of bitcoin, everyone can freely use both bitcoin and its logo. This state of affairs is only in favor of a decentralized cryptocurrency. The lack of a real creator of bitcoin makes this invention a public asset.

Did you mean the logo was an open source, so everyone can do their own version too. No wonder I saw different style of this Bitcoin logo merged with different combinations based on their creativity. Indeed the raw design of this represented the capital B with two parallel lines crossed of it's alignment, and the unique idea became an outgoing trend for all crypto oriented people around the world.

nice explanation here but only if its the orginal bitcoin logo but there are other logo that is created by a certain company or designer and some of them has a watermark .

this is not good if we search for some logo on the web and steal thier logo but why cant we just create our own personalized logo ? its not that hard because we are only gonna be using the BTC logo as the main character/subject .

Bitcoin's logo is not like a logo of a Business where they iwn the copyright and trademark for it. Bitcoin's logo symbolizes its cryptocurrency value sort of like $ for the USD, ¥ for the Japanese Yen its how your recognize Bitcoin is Bitcoin without that logo you wouldn't know what currency is that number for. It's simple as that and you literally aren't stealing anything because it can be freely use by other people.

Of course, you can, in fact, we should encourage supporters, investors, and traders to use it in their keychain t-shirt printing and to promote Bitcoin further I seldom see people use Bitcoin logo in their t-shirt or anything in their possession, when we should encourage because it's free, maybe five years from now Bitcoin logo will become the most iconic and popular logo in every city like what Nike and other popular commercial logos.

yes as long as they are using what's on here https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Bitcoin_logo.svg which are all free, but if you are using logo that comes from a guy who made a modification and you don't get his permission and he happens to have a copyright on his work he can charge you, so it's better to ask for permission or create your own modification.

That's like mentioned above There are many variations of the original design made by different companies. I feel those can be copyrighted if sufficient modifications are made.

Bitcoin Logo is actually pretty free to use for any purposes and I think it's pretty obvious. We see the logo all around us if we are in this crypto world. It's in Public domain and can be used before or after alteration for various commercial and non commercial uses. But the interesting thing is that if by any chance Satoshi would have registered it we might have found out his address or some more information. Tongue

There is no declared copy right claimed for this logo therefore it is free to use by everyone. In fact, creator of Bitcoin currency is still an issue in which there is no legit person declared of who made Bitcoin therefore logo ownership is an issue too.

I think it’s just fear of being in the wrong

Although the forum has cleared the issue I was worried about using the logo on my news site
Reason being is that I paid 2000 usd fine for a image of Dubai I had on my business website (Getty images contacted my office with a threatening manner.

Its not actually bad to ask regarding on this matter since this is a forum and any consultation would really be welcomed but if we do see on why/who created bitcoin then we can really say that there would be no restriction on using bitcoin logo. You can modify as much as you like since theres no violation for infringement. I don't know why other people do pay up regarding on this logos which is actually free.

I agree to their side. It doesn't fall to either trademark or copyright laws as it can be freely use by anyone. It cannot be covered by trademark as it is not a company that provides services or product it is just a virtual currency. It cannot be copyrighted as it is not made by an author nor we can identify the artist who created the said logo. Also asking it on another way can you declare or own the rights to the symbols of Fiat currency for the U.S. dollar or Euro? I guess not as it is the symbol for that currency and anyone can use it.

Logo Bitcoin isn't restricted by copyright. You can safely use without fear. I didn't hear anyone having any problems because of that. More information can be found on wiki or google.

One of the greatest aspects of bitcoin is that nobody owns it and nobody can own it, not even the government or the authorities. Everyone is entitled to use it or to have one or two or more. Anyway, if we think about that concept and relate it to the bitcoin logo, I think it will also be applicable since it is a public domain. That's why if we look at some of cryptos that was a result of a bitcoin fork, the original version can still be distinguished.

Best thing is that you can find bitcoin logo on shutter stock website where people are selling it for money. I won't be surprised if people even buy it from there when first thing they do is search for royalty photos to buy from and but whenever they want. Also saw this with some other alts logos on there.

But yeah it was built by community for the community to be free. Same like dollar has its own sign, bitcoin logo nest is representation of this cryptocurrency.

I think we all own it. Everyone that is using has the right use it whenever or wherever they want because I know that even Satoshi want it that way. If Satoshi appeared and prove he is that guy that he can definitely owns its rights.

Intellectual property rights infringement, Copyright infringement and trademark infringement are all different things.

The intellectual property rights may be in the public domain, but that doesn't give you the right to copy nor the right to infringe on another organisations trademark.

Thanks guys clears it up... I modified the original to incorporate it into me own logo.

I have always wondered why Satoshi never spends any of his / her or their coins let alone profit from copyrighted logos (would have made such a killing on royaltees for use-age)

I think there probley dead, or lost there original wallet for that genesis block or some kind of conspiracy but we can save that for another topic ay! Wink

If you're referring to the original, posted by HeRetiK, you are free to use it without fear for copyright trolls.

But once you start modifying it (if I remember correctly the terms where modify,change and expand) you can claim copyright on it.
Istock has a lot of them protected by copyright.
So stick with the original.
