Yes, Core must be up to date in order for Armory to work in online mode. (In offline mode, you don't need Core to run but you also can't get an accurate count of your wallet's contents, amongst other things.) To go online, you need Core to run at the same time. As Core's DB is updated, Armory's DB is updated automatically.
Armory reads the Core DB in order to create its own DB under an Armory-controlled folder, with its own format (i.e., you can't just copy the Core DB). Up through 0.93, this second DB is roughly the same size as the Core DB. As of 0.94, the second DB size will be reduced greatly. I've been running some nightly builds at home. On mainnet, the DB is ~125 MB large.
Or its own database? I'm trying to see how my Armory setup would scale in term of storage.
Basically If i install Armory that comes with BitcoinCore, where is the blockchain stored? Default Bitcoincore or Armory has its separate storage of blockchain.
If Armory use BitcoinCore database only, can i copy the blockchain folder (database) from another computer to quickly catch up with the current block?
