I read thru their announcement and it's unclear to me if I can split out my Bitcoin2X tokens.  Can anyone elaborate?  I've poked around their website and can't find any way to

No, you can't. You will receive your B2X after the fork.

I also puzzled on how/where all those B2X in HitBTC futures trading sell order come from in the first place. I think it's HitBTC's itself selling B2X initially? I understand that in Bitfinex user must trade their BTC to BT1 (original) and BT2 (B2X) to start trading B2X futures. But that system isn't applied in HitBTC.

Their official statement regarding segwit2x https://blog.hitbtc.com/segwit2x-futures-trading-live-on-hitbtc/

Quote
The day SegWit2x is activated. These actions are to be performed:

B2X deposits and withdrawals will be enabled. Future split tokens you’ve purchased will turn alive.
You will receive the same amount of B2X as you hold BTC on your HitBTC account.

Only market for B2X were opened right now so that people can speculate on future price. You will not get any B2X tokens right now for your BTC.
