There is nothing special about the cable, if it support power and data transfer it should work.

There is no damage to the security. In the end, it is a cable. Perhaps if you buy a modified cable, it will have a problem, but the original cables from reliable sources will work with the same efficiency as the cable provided by the company.

You should only use and buy original cables from proven sources because there are malicious cables that can steal your crypto and leak information.
Depending on model of ledger hardware wallet there are two types of cables, Ledger Nano S is using Micro-USB to USB Type-A cable connection, and Ledger Nano X is using USB Type-C to USB Type-A cable connection.
There are also some extensions and convertors you can buy if you have other type of connection on your device.
New hardware wallets are usually supporting USB Type-C connection and older ones have Micro-USB connection.

Few months ago I wrote about most hardware wallet cable connection in this topic, so you can find more information there:

I use a USB cable I bought from the market since I lost my ledger nano s cable, and it works fine. But sometimes it is not detected by my pc. Can't find out exactly why, I guess it's not perfectly compatible in one way or the other. So, if you can use the official cable, I suggest you use it instead.
