There is only one XRP, ripple is blockchain network while xrp is native token of ripple blockchain.

What are these institutional banks that are holding XRP?and what exactly are the two forms of XRP? 
I have never heard that there are two forms of XRP, where you got this idea that urged you to ask? 
Been under the impression that Ripple doesn't want XRP moved off the gateway and it seems too risky keeping XRP in a hardware wallet.
