You essentially just asked if competition for coins is good and the answer is yes always. You need healthy competition in order to push the rival to the limit otherwise they could get complacent and offer a crappy service. FUD

on the other hand is quite different and I agree that aspect of smashing heads should be gone for sure. But that alone won't change the market out their, there are tons of participants each with a mind of their own.

There's a lot of hate between different Coins in the Crypto market. There is enough FUD without other currencies creating any between themselves.

One that jumps to mind is BTC/BCH.

I think that the whole market needs to pull together to disprove a lot of the nonsense  that is posted about the market.

What are peoples thoughts. Is Coin to Coin rivalries killing crypto?

It's a good point that you raise, such rivalries definitely don't help out in many ways. Spreading FUD about a rival in the hope of stealing their custom only works if the custom actually comes to you. In crypto's case it tends to just flow out of the market. There's no use for them to crash bitcoin because it's only going to crash the whole market of which bitcoin cash is part of.
