I recently bought a Radeon 5770 to add to my rig, which contains a 5870 and a 5850. However, when I added it to the motherboard and booted it up, Windows gave me a "uncorrectable hardware error" BSOD.  Sad  My motherboard, the Intel D975XBXLKR, has 3 PCIe slots, so it should support 3 video cards...right? I do not have any of them connected in CrossFireX. Might the video card be malfunctioning, even though I just bought it? Or is this a limitation/problem of the motherboard (or Windows)?

I ran 3 x 5850's on a D975XBXLKR and Ubuntu 10.10 without any issues. I didn't try it with Windows.

Make sure your BIOS is the most current. Mine is 1351.
