Is owning a cat gives any opportunity at all?

Cats just use you at their convenience... Smiley

Now everyone will be asking those scientists about cats. My guess is, the human probably does make the oxytocin, but the cat maybe not...

But then again humans make oxytocin for a myriad of reasons lol.

Seems the dog study was done in 2003, talk about old news...

I don't think we need research to know dogs are our best friend. That goes for people who have dogs of course. Smiley

Either cat or dog or even what kind of animal(aside from endangered species)all of them are opportunity to find love and give love as well.i have been having a dog since elementary years and until now that I have own family still dogs are part of our family

My dogs name are Bruno and Sophia both are breeds from my old dogs that died years back

Good point here. I had two dogs two, but one of them, Jessie, suddenly died last year, she was 10. The other dog, Lessie, is still with me, she's 5. I love her so much but she's been very upset since Jessie passed away. She began shedding so much. Though it is said here that it's okay for her breed to shed this much. She's a labrador retriever. I give her vitamins everyday and I'm hoping she will be okay soon. Who else here have retrievers?
Atleast Jessie get the full 10 years and that’s enough reason for us to be thankful as we have loved them that long.Lessie on the other hand needs to find another buddy aside from you being owner because she use to have A Dog Companion for years
Sadly I have no retriever because Bruno is Dutch and Sophia is pit bull

I think it's not only for dog, but the same thing also happens when we look into the eye of any animal, including cat, dolphin, a cow, or chicken. But I guess it depends on someone's sensitivity.
An idea from watching Criminal Minds, a psycho start their career by torturing animal first. Maybe it has something to do with the feeling when you look into their eyes, and it's the same feeling like seeing into humans eye. Torturing animal makes a psycho feel superior as with a human.

I agree with your article.
So we need to take measures and even laws to prevent the slaughter or eat them.

Interesting history between dogs and man. Whatever the reason for our current relationship, it would be hard to argue that our furry friends don’t make the world a better place.

Its not only that they make world better place, but studies  also showed that people who own dogs live longer and healthier lives. Especially those people that live alone.

Here is the link to the study that was released in Nature

https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-017-16118-6

''To study the link between dogs and longevity, researchers at Uppsala University in Sweden reviewed national registry records of Swedish men and women, ages 40 to 80. They focused on 3.4 million people who had no history of cardiovascular disease in 2001, and followed their health records—as well as whether they registered as a dog owner—for about 12 years. Dog ownership registries are mandatory in Sweden, and every visit to a hospital is recorded in a national database.

How dogs stole our hearts

http://news.sciencemag.org/brain-behavior/2015/04/how-dogs-stole-our-hearts

<< If you think of your dog as your "fur baby", science has your back. New research shows that when our canine pals stare into our eyes, they activate the same hormonal response that bonds us to human infants. The study - the first to show this hormonal bonding effect between humans and another species - may help explain how dogs became our companions thousands of years ago. >>

Dogs are man's best friend thanks to bonding hormone, research shows

http://www.theguardian.com/science/2015/apr/16/dogs-are-mans-best-friend-thanks-to-bonding-hormone-research-shows

<< A rush of hormone that helps people bond could explain why humans and dogs have been best friends for thousands of years, say researchers in Japan. The scientists found that dog owners experienced a surge of oxytocin when their pets gazed into their eyes, a dramatic effect that was mirrored in the animals themselves.

The same hormone has been shown to spike in mothers' brains when they look into their children's eyes. The physiological response drives maternal caring and strengthens the bond between mothers and their babies. The latest finding suggests that dogs have tapped into this ancient biological mechanism, and through it reinforced the ties that have existed between humans and dogs since the animals were first domesticated thousands of years ago.

"This might be why the human-dog relationship seems to work so well", Takefumi Kikusui at Azabu University told the Guardian. >>
