I suppose I can't even look forward to the building of a 1,989 mile long wall between the US and Mexico.
So are we that far thst we believe that lying is normal and that it is fine especially for the leaders of our nations?
If that is the case our society is doomed anyway no real need of a crazy president trump.
Nah, lying for politicians is like breathing for the rest of us. I don't think I'd trust a president that didn't lie.
Would you have expected president Bill Clinton to get on TV and say, "yep, I fucked Monica Lewinsky right up the ass in the Oval Office. Came all over her face too!"
How about president Kennedy addressing the public when questioned about Marilyn Monroe, "come on people, of course I tapped that sweet ass, wouldn't you?"
People lie and need to be lied to. No one wants to hear the truth and wouldn't elect a truth teller as president.
Trump would have lost if he campaigned by saying, "I'd love to build a wall but it's really not practical, it costs too much and would take about 20 years to complete. I'd love to kick all the muslems out of the country but really can't do it. I act like a tough dominating sexist toward women but really I'm an emasculated wimp around my wife or she'll stop giving me pussy, divorce me and take half my money".
We are approaching the crux of the story.
Who is at fault that our world is going down the toilet?
The lying politicians or the society that accepts them as their leaders?
People must be lied to and they demand it most of the time. The fat person doesn't want to be told they look fat. The idiot doesn't want to be called dumb. The cancer patient doesn't want to be told there's no hope for them. The electorate doesn't want to be told their pet issue can't be solved without crushing the pet issue of another person.
To get elected politicians need to be all things to all people and that's simply not possible. Someone must be lied to and must be left out of the decisions. A candidate can't be pro-life and pro-choice at the same time even if you need the vote from both sides to get elected. Political campaign advisors carefully craft a system of beliefs for their boss that garners the largest possible number of supporters. Only after a politician is elected will you really know where they stand on all issues.
Most presidents have "the big three" and will attempt to keep those few issues as close to their campaign promises as possible. With Obama it was healthcare, education reform and consumer protections. Obama promised about 15-20 things that were completely impossible to accomplish and we all knew it but we loved the empty promises.
