Anybody know how we can switch the working project in folding@home ?

Great thread and links to where we can share out processing power. I am pretty sure if the entire Digital Coin community put our power into Seti for one day we most certainly we find aliens

I joined folding@Home project and currently with GPU mining cure for Alzheimer's Disease and with CPU testing new methods for protein folding Smiley

You know what makes people healthy the most? Wealth does.
All those crypto-currencies do allow people to get financially independent from the governments (as was mentioned above) and on the long run, they (crypto-currencies) will allow people to get wealthier and healthier.
Crypto-currencies are also facilitating free movement of capital and goods which is also very good for the humanity as it promotes wealth as well.

You know what hurts the environment the most? Poverty does. So, by promoting and participating in crypto-currencies you are probably doing better for the environment too.

By the way, electricity is an infinite resource, humanity will use exponentially greater amounts of electricity as the time goes by. Power companies will produce as much electricity as the market requires. (Why do you think crypto-currencies waste electricity and SETI@home does not?)

Finally, you came to the bitcointalk.org and start talking trash about crypto-currencies?, yeah, that the way to get the support for your projects. I call it trolling.

I'm not supporting anything at all. I am BTC miner too, BUT BUT BUT i preferred to donate some of my cpu's to something more useful (at least proved usability). Then i decided to share my idea to others.

I never said do not mine, i just said now that you have enormous computing power you can donate just a little part of it to these projects.

If you disagree or dont want, dont bother yourself .. keep calm and go on! There are people who take benefit from scientific projects and cryptocoins both simultaneously.

GET IN - Smart Ticket Protocol - Live in market!
Nowadays Bitcoin has more than 312,000 TeraFLOPS and several thousand processing units is working every day.

Every one of us that has at least a good & spiritual soul part knows that:
1. Now we have many many processing power that targeted for something that all we know is garbage
2. Our rig is generating heat and swallow electricity that in long term could damage the environment
3. We are concerning about our living environment ( first for us then for future people Wink )
4. Yesterday we dont have these equipments, now we have and WE CAN HELP.

So that would be awesome if we could donate JUST A VERY LITTLE part of our processing power to distributed computing projects running all over the world. I Emphasize on JUST A VERY LITTLE PART (just a core/gpu).

It does not matter which project you join, there is a good list of distributed computing projects here. Personally i introduce folding@Home and SETI@home if you are interested.

I started this thread here, because i think these projects worth like other alternate cryptocurrencies.

If you donate some processing power, share with us here (how much and which project)

BTC makes seti at home and such obsolete, noone will give their computing away for free anymore if they know of bitcoin.

Also what makes you think cryptos arent a beneficial endevor anyways? it grants financial freedom from governments

Sad, but true.

99% of people won't do anything unless it's in their best interests or if they are feeling very generous.

Someone who makes a coin that does the protein folding or help SETI analyze data would be totally amazing. The coin would benefit man-kind and the people with the hashes would get payed for them.

 Smiley

There's a major problem with a coin that operates from a centralized data source: If the coin becomes popular, and the SETI@home project decides they need a bit more funding, they could generate some artificial data that they know the analysis of already, and then they could mine the analysis block immediately. This would be giving the data source curators an unfair revenue stream and it would encourage them to compromise the integrity of their released datasets.

Excellent initiative op,

Using BOINC running on my PCs, with BoincStats BAM to manage the multiple boxes centrally.  Its very easy,  create a BoincStats account,  then download BOINC,  login to it,  and from the site decide what to do with your cpus (which has projects to work on)

already donate the CPU power to world community grid and Seti not to mention blenderfarm and renderfarm.fi ....big buck bunnies awesome XD

and if you interested in this sort of thing one of the best places to keep an eye on scores is boincstats.com
load of projects to donate to feel free to pick and mix Cheesy

Cancer?  Cheesy ..the best way to cure and stay healthy is dependent upon what you`re eating - see for example gerson diet Wink - but big pharma is not interested in promoting because  "there`s no money in it" (George Carlin).

I know eating is important, but what if you can help scientists find a medicine for cancer patients with just a core or a GPU from your rig? Computation can help solve their calculations, So they can have more experiments.

Would you do that for the next patients who can be anybody?

PS: there are more than 100 science project, i didn't insist on one, in post #1 i provided a full list from wikipedia of them, you can select the project that you are more interested. Maybe space, IT, mechanical engineering, Artificial inteligence or event Art !

Folding@Home lost me due to the lack of GPU support on linux. Though, I did my time with an 8-core AMD FX8120 :p

Personally i dedicated 2 core of my rig to folding@Home project.

In other word, I am mining to find a cure for cancer there  Wink
