Just to update the links on OP, the namecoin wiki has moved to a subdomain of the new   namecoin page now.

Bounties for development and current issues can be found at bountysource other donations can be posted on the forum.

All repositories from the project can be found here: website, namecoin, libcoin port project, namecointrol...

I'm happy with khal, gsan, and others working on DNS aspects of namecoin.  I think their efforts are a worthy cause for donations.  I'm good with my share of the bitdns bounty and I have commited that 30% of that BTC will go to others.

Namecoin is neutral towards applications built on top of it, such as a domain name system. There is some brainstorming going on about other applications and their integration between each other.

Needless to say, the current demand is focused on the DNS application of it, especially documentation, and also (hopefully) there will be a lot of development solely around this functionality. I see dot-bit.org as an encapsulating project focused on this endeavor.

I tried to contact vince by PM and on IRC without success (PM : I didn't receive a response, IRC : we don't leave in near timezones i guess), but gsan had some contacts with him.

What i can say is this project needs visibility, organisation, documentation, tools and a central web site to find/manage all this, and this can't all be done by 1 person (consequence is a wiki + a forum).

* Vince has forked the bitcoin client and launched namecoin.
* I've started by creating a DNS bridge for .bit domains and then the dot-bit project. I did not chose the name 'namecoin project' because there was no namecoin.tld available (i discovered later that someone else had reserved some of them and i proposed to switch to this domain name).
* gsan has started the second .bit DNS server and written the draft for the domain specification
* Some miners are sellings namecoins
* People have reserved around 500 domains

Here is a little summary of people involved in namecoin currently (sorry if i miss some).

So, i can't really say we are partners, and i would be happy if we can claim it both, but would it change something ?

If you want to make some donation to a person directly, because you think his personnal invest is significant for you, you can donate to him directly. If you think that donating to this project may help more, you can do it. Or you can do both :p

If you ever asked this to clarify things for the BitDNS bounty, i hope you have enough informations to make your own decision (i cannot be judge and jury).

Vince, any comment about all that ? Smiley

Quick question khal.

Are you and vinced partners or is this a separate project or what's the deal with dot-bit!? Has vinced even acknowledged the name or does he need to?

Dot-Bit project is a decentralized, anonymous and open DNS system based on the namecoin naming system!

The project has set up a page for donations :
http://dot-bit.org/Dot-bit_Project:Site_support

Bitcoin: 1J3EKMfboca3SESWGrQKESsG1MA9yK6vN4

Namecoin: N2pGWAh65TWpWmEFrFssRQkQubbczJSKi9

They will be used for bounties or services that help the project to spread.

There is also a dedicated forum to avoid flooding here :p
