This is a very good post to follow his/her's advice. 

Yeah but altcoins have basically no viability. Even innovative ones just get exploited and/or forgotten.

so basically mining is never profitable.  if this equipment is real they wont sell it to you at an over inflated price until months after they have mined with it.  you wont see this .06 watt till 2016 earliest.

The benefits to making consumer-oriented gear instead of catering to farms are numerous but not directly obvious to people focused on immediate profit. For one, you're distributing the network. It's not as dominated by a few entities, so it's more fault-tolerant and less cartel-able. For another, you're not aiding the rich in their quest to get richer by exploiting a new market whose intent in creation was sort of the exact opposite.

Personally I don't think it's easily defined.  It's an example of Sorites paradox.  1 miner in a kitchen = home.  4, still home. 16 in a garage, maybe still home, but stick the same 16 in unused warehouse space and maybe you're a small scale miner?  What about 50?  Does noise factor in?  What about cooling?  What if it's '1 miner', but that's actually a self-contained rack?  Could stick that in the kitchen (who needs oven/fridge anyway), but does that make it a home miner?

I think SP's answer to that would be more interesting, but as it stands they may not have an answer to that as people adapt to the realities of mining.

Put yourself in their shoes from a business perspective.  Aside from community praise which bubbles up to large customers slowly, what advantage is there to selling small amounts / small miners to many individuals vs selling large amounts / large miners to fewer individuals?  Take into account things like shipping, administration/paperwork, support infrastructure (from hand holding to RMA processes) and all the other business end things.

Just to get back to KnC, perhaps the people involved in (potential) lawsuits against them have more information, possibly through discovery as appropriation of funds is presumably a topic in any of them.

KnC 20nm machine was grossly overpriced, 6 mo preorder and than 1-2 mo late. By the time it finally came out, it did not matter that much because there were comparable and much less expensive machines from Spond and Bitmain.
I expect pretty much the same story-a lot of hype and than mediocre implementation or none as far as consumer side is concerned.

I think instead of actually answering the question, he was just repeating the expected specs for Spondoolies' next machine.

I think most people would be comfortable with relatively quiet <1KW miners. The S1 made a freakin' killing last year with home customers.

There's probably a decent market in <100W quiet desk miners as well. A good efficient board design, if it was modular enough, could meet both needs by making a small 1-3 board case and a large 10-20 board case with internal hubs or backplane.

tl;dr: Spondoolies plans to continue manufacturing mining equipment for medium-large scale deployment.  They also want to build miners for retail (home/small scale).  There's a divide between wanting to and it making business sense that would need bridging.

Do not fall on preorders buy what you can ATM, question of it is profitable or not is totaly different matter...

And they will steal your money in form of pre-orders!

yup that is true.mining is not profitable with owr present technology and price level.i am just waiting when the technology will make a new thing which will make mining profitable again

if KNC does complete there supposed  0.06 W/GHS miner you can be rest assured that they will mine with your gear until that 0.06 is run of the mill then you will take shipment of a working miner if your lucky, or maybe a miner all damaged and broken.. then you could look forward to there outstanding customer service



 

KNC aren't people/miner friendly. It's been known for sometime that they will stop building personal miners.  I read somewhere they have been given outside funding to facilitate their venture.  You can guarantee they will sell this tech to the highest bidder since new hardware is needed for the farms to profit for this prolonged dip in btc price.  This company has great endeavors for pushing the envelope but should quit and get out of the game.

Its not just KNC. Its also other brand such as SP which don't want to manufacture any more mining equipment.

KnC + Bitfury + Asicminer + Bitmain + many others...


All are self-mining. The end game here is no one will be able to purchase mining power unless it is old and inefficient.

The more realistic end game though is a BTC price crash that leaves most farms having to shut off just to save the enormous electricity bill.

Right now is the worse time to buy any new hardware. KNC is at the end of production for their Solor chips. These chips blow the current competition out of the water.

It will feature a 0.06 W/GHS (YES THATS NOT A TYPO)

That's almost 10x more efficient then todays current technology.


Most likely they WON'T sell this equipment to the public but it will make the current difficulty go up like 10 fold.
