Sometimes we need to run DDU in safe mode. So we must not forget to enable safe mode by following any possible method.
Also, don't forget to install Net Framework 3.5 that required to run OverdriveNtool and SRB Polaris.

This is great advice if you want a vulnerable computer that is online 24/7 for anyone to target.  Honestly if you are going to go to these lengths you might as well just install ubuntu instead.  Better performance, more secure, less overhead.

I prefer to use older versions of windows 10, it is easier to block the updates. In recent versions it is more complicated.

Also it is better to stop Software Protection on mining rigs – it consumes a lot of resources. You have to open Regedit, go to HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\sppsvc and modify number in "Start" to 4. This will disable the service after you restart and you will not have CPU wastage.

Yes, whenever I re-install or install a new copy of windows, I keep forgetting about the Sleep mode and usually after a few hours my rig is down. I turn it back on and its awake from hibernation. I almost always forget this.

The most important part is the Windows Update, however with Windows 10, its not so easy because none of the registery tricks work anymore like they did about a year or two ago.

You need to go and update your DNS so the Windows update servers are blocked.

Its a pain because whenever these mandatory updates happen, it usually freezes your rig for an hour and it usually requires a restart and doing so it might freeze on restart.

if rigs is only dedicated to mining then no worries
yes, my rig has never been used for anything else like opening youtube, social media, downloading, streaming movies so I don't care to update for AV except when 1st setting.

if later when the running rig needs something that needs updating and needs to download outside the file for Win like claymore, I do it on another PC that isn't used for mining.

Because, Windows may have important security updates, which if you miss to install, may leave your system vulnerable and prone to malicious attacks.
It's been a year since I disabled the update until now it doesn't have a critical problem about it, as long as the Rig is only installed, what is needed for mining (claymore, GPUZ, atikmdag) is likely not to happen.

but for this, I agree
It's better to set them on Manual.

When you do Sh*t things other than mining, you might need an update and so is true to your AV's

not against of it, however some major updates really F*cking up drivers

its a main goal to keep mining without interruptions and if rigs is only dedicated to mining then no worries

Windows 10 is a bit tricky OS, especially in the update section. When you go to services.msc and stop and disable the windows update the next time you restart your PC, you will see those are back on, not immediately but it is a sure thing they will be. The best way to fix this is to make Windows update manual and manual can be done in this way.

Go to regedit and to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows then click New and then Key. Name the new key Windows Update . After that right click the newly created key and select new and then key. Name this AUOptions . AUOptions stand for Auto Update options .Double click this and make the DWORD value equal to 2. 2 means Notify me before installing Windows Updates. This is the best way to disable once and forever the Windows Update.

It is also worth to disable all updates and disable Windows recovering so that in the event of failures with electricity the system continues to boot up on its own.
I'm not really sure that disabling updates in Windows is a good idea. It's better to set them on Manual. That way you may choose how and when to install them, without interrupting your mining, but its' better to know of them. Because, Windows may have important security updates, which if you miss to install, may leave your system vulnerable and prone to malicious attacks.

of course, it's worth disabling Windows updates but I only wrote something that usually miners often forget including me when setting a new rig, I always forget that things.

For new altcoin miners don't forget to do this:

1) Turn off Window Defender
if ON, some cases of hashrate dropped when WinDef doing scans and the software miner as a detected virus, it is a false alarm.

2) Don't forget to increase Virtual Memory size at least 16 GB, bigger is better
some low VM cases can make a crash or freeze for software miner  even Window

3) Turn off sleep mode in the Window
if sleep mode in "ON" setting can make the software miner stop when "sleeping".

It is also worth to disable all updates and disable Windows recovering so that in the event of failures with electricity the system continues to boot up on its own.
