Topic: Don't give me merit (Read 1392 times)

For someone who called me a shitposter, your grammar in your first paragarph is mindboggling. I understand English is not your first language, but you really shouldn't call someone else a shit poster when your own posting is atrocious.

For a moment it seemed like you were saying you don't understand the purpose of merit, but then say it urged you to become a better member. I suppose you were talking about me in your first sentence and not yourself. Hard to know though with the way you constructed that first sentence.


Either way, you have definitely made me happy by not giving me merit.  

It is already a year has passed by and another one don't really know what's the purpose of the merit. Why does people don't use the maximum level of their cells to understand the advantages of the merit system in the bitcoin community?

For me it was the most successful system that was implemented in the forum. When merit system was implemented, In some point, It urge me to be a better member of this community. If you don't want merits then it's just waste of time to post like this.

This will not work. The trick is to say" Do not give me merits" and then get some merits just like what OP did.

No, merit will be always with you , but you can send smerit. Smerit will be if you have a two and more merit.

Guys, tell me please, I have 1 Merit, if I bet someone, I will have "0" again? After all, when Merit is not there, there is no way to put it.

Good for you to realize on this one anyway you have a good rank already and that is a milestone you had achieve already. If you have only seen that there are many jr. members being stuck on their rank for the merits. Even if you are a good poster but still you could not receive merits since some of the merits are being on sale privately. Sad to say that higher rank had sold their merits instead of giving them freely.

I think you what you did is called reverse psychology, it may work but the one who will give you a merit will be a waste of smerit. You don't want other people give you merit? Dear TheGodson I agree with you with some of your thoughts but not all, from your post you look against the merit system. Your post itself proves merit and trust system are real tool to control spammers and scammers and DT members are doing really hard work to tackle this problem of scammers and spammers . What you will do if alt accounts are sharing merit with each other &  members are trading merits for money to increase earning through bounty hunting will you not mock them? From your post looks like you care about forum and in your post you have mentioned under cover merit!! as a responsible person you should have reported them. Have reported any one yet who are trading merit in deep level as you mentioned?

That's truth but all are not expecting that mate. You may see the people getting merits like post count on this forum itself. Best people theymos, lutpin and some full member guys too.
They mostly focusing to help the forum members with their knowledge.
If you do that even you can get the merits easily mate. Then on services section some of people open up the thread to give merits valuable post. You may check them as your merit source.

He is not implying anything, he openly stated that your post is written solely to hoard merit points, with the usage of reversed psychology.
Regardless of it being true or not, my first reaction to it was this way, I got that nasty impression of a merit beggar.
As you can see I'm not the only one. Where you might have been honest about all this, there some form of unintended manipulation took place.

I don't think so. However, there are real priviledges (not official ones) for Copper members of the forum like that, it is one of signals which shows that the merit system failed (but, honestly I think the system has performed extremely well after launched).

Well if copper members bought the membership to enable them to post images, that should reduce their merit earning potential, as some awarders will put them on ignore. If they bought the membership to help them with their bounty programme spamming, and they are being awarded merits by the spamming community, then maybe that is something that should be investigated. The whole point of the merit system is to reduce the activities of bounty spammers.

Really? Are you serious that Copper members has higher chances to get merits than normal users? Only constructive users can earn merits for their constructive threads (and it should be like this).

Yeah, you don't have to post that you don't want a merit instead accept it. Do you know why did they give you merit? They give you merit because they think you deserve it if this day or another day you didn't received one that means you don't deserved it. Merit is already in this forum. The reason why the admin implemented a merit system is to improve this forum not all about giving and receiving merits. Why don't you thank yourself for receiving merits because someone think that you deserve it because of what you did. Being humble is not bad. Let's be happy that the admin try their best to keep this forum the best there is.

That was a heartwarming message or post I should say. The name of yours is suited to you. But all people here are fake just like a book with cover with a many words that you can fine. I don't know if what your motive because of this post. But I owe you for this effort of yours. For now many people will bash with you and I think all of them are higher ranked here. That reverse psychology worked in this case. People try it in different ways but it still works:

1) They break a forum rule and then ask the admin to delete if the post is violating any rule. From inside they know that they are violating the rule, there is no need of making that post if they know that they are breaking rule.

2) A reverse of this is some people post messages on walls like do not throw garbage here and others do the opposite.

When will  they learn to accept that such system really exist? Yes, we have this freedom of expression but it's really annoying now. At first, I give my sympathy, but now. In some aspect, negative merits are almost the same as demerit function which has been rejected by lots of higher ranked users in the forum. Therefore, i don't think that your ideas will be implemented by Theymos.

If I was Sir Theymos I would put a temporary ban on merit threads. Like for three months any thread opened would be deleted and all suggestions would need to be done in the merit and new ranks requirements thread. It is tiring.

Guys, i'm making this post because I believe in something greater than myself. I believe in an ideological method of how this forum should operate. Please don't be alarmed, offended, or disgusted. I will announce it right now:

I don't want merit, because of what it does to us. Take a look into your heart and ask yourself who you really are. Can you live with yourself? Is this what you really want? A bunch of people come to this forum everyday. Long ago we all loved bitcoin and shared everything about it. Our knowledge, our questions, our ideas, our desires, our fears. It was a living breathing forum. Love filled the corridors of the blessed links. It was a truly beautiful place. The legendary folk knew they were important. The newbies understood how worthless they were. However, they also understood that one day they would become legendary as well. The forums were flooded with more and more important content. No spam, no hate, no fud, no making random posts to get money for sig-campaigns, none of that.

One day a snake was unleashed. Its fury bestowed itself amongst the bitcoin forum world. This snake was named merit. The merit infected the pure forum. Suddenly spam was present. People began begging for merit. Others were scolding those begging for merit while covertly begging for merit themselves. Those that were scolding were also scolded by others for their undercover merit-begging. Well guess what, those folk were begging for merit too. It was just 2 levels deep. On and on it went. People went further than 2 levels deep. I've seen some people more than 10 levels deep. More people came into the forums. More spammers and scammers. More beggars and broken-English posters.

So who will stand and fight. Who will fight for what they believe in. I will, who else is with me? I know the battle doesn't give us good odds, but it is important to be what you are. Be yourself and don't give up. Love, learn, and yada yada yada. I'm trying to think of more good cliché things that everyone respects, but we already know what that stuff is. It just isn't always so easy to put down in words. The English vocabulary isn't big enough for me to express my heart and my journey. Let us venture into a new era of quality content once again.

That is a good question Tom. To be honest, I don't have all the answers. I wish I could tell you how I was able to develop such genrosity. The only advice I can give, is to search deep within your heart and find it. It is something on another level that even I cannot explain.


Wow Sarah, thanks for the complement. It really feels good being as humble as I am. Very few people have probably reached my level of humility, but I don't blame them at all. Everyone is learning at different speeds and we should all be loving and giving. I truly have been blessed and I am not all that great. I really am not. I'm just like any normal person. I don't desire to be worshipped either. I am not a god. I am a mere mortal that is humble and recognize that merit is not a good thing to beg for. Guess what Sarah, you already have become humble by asking the question. You can't become a great leader of humility, like me, until you learn how to follow. A good leader doesn't give out orders. He/she guides his people.


Frank, I can't imagine the hardship that you have suffered. No child should ever have to go through that. That being said, I can't accept your merit. I have made it my quest to not accept merit.

The only reason I showed you how to give merit is so that you would understand that you could and that it would be easy. I don't want you to mistake my post as a beg for merit, because it isn't. I think if you search within yourself you will find the deeper meaning behind the meaning. I like to post quality content just for the content itself and my many fans. I have altruistic motives and that will never change. Please be understanding in the fact that I absolutely do not, under any circumstances, want any merit. This post is already getting long enough as it is with all my amazing content.

I really hope you all appreciate what I've made here and also remember to not give me merit no matter how badly you want to give it to me. I know you want to give merit to me, but please resist the urge.
