Its not GPL violent - he have integrated his own knowledge and scripts and giving support for ethos so he can charge a fee for it.

Don´t download any images from other sources cause you don´t know whats in there.

He did not violate the GPL, a big part of ethos is the menagerie of shell scripts for updates and starting things, which he does not have to give away. You should learn to actually read what the GPL says.

Furthermore, ethos phones home, so essentially, you are paying for the ability to remotely watch your machines.
