Thanks.

BTW how do I turn off UPnP, when I go to settings/options/network there is a "map port using UPnP" checkbox which is unchecked. But i can't find anything else that looks relevant
That's alright. Just upgrade your wallet after you're done extracting the keys.

Do you have any idea what insecure could mean or the downside of using it, if I was to open a wallet with coins using this would they be at risk of being hacked?
The UPNP library included with certain versions of Bitcoin Core were susceptible to buffer overflow. This potentially means that an adversary executing an attack against you could take advantage of that to do a remote code execution.

You just have to disable UPNP in the settings, turn your internet connection off and it should be fine. It's not that easy to exploit.

Does anyone know where to find this, or any other old bitcoin-qt clients?

If the wallet is indeed corrupted, I am not certain that different exe will help, however, here you are:
Take a look at https://bitcoin.org/bin/insecure/bitcoin-core-0.8.6/ but keep in mind that the fact that path contains the word "insecure" should be a big warning.
Also maybe you find old versions that are not insecure and still work for you: https://bitcoin.org/bin/
Good luck!

I have a old wallet that shows a corrupted error message when I load it into a new bitcoin client. I believe I can open the wallet using an old bitcoin-qt client(I have done this in the past but no longer have that client) but I cannot find anywhere to download it(preferably with a window .exe file). The link on the bitcoin.org website doesnt seem to have anything:

https://bitcoin.org/en/release/v0.8.6
http://sourceforge.net/projects/bitcoin/files/Bitcoin/bitcoin-0.8.6/

Does anyone know where to find this, or any other old bitcoin-qt clients?
