The reason being is because if you need to transfer your copy of the blockchain to another computer, it's easy as eject, unplug, plug, and restart Bitcoin Core.

Yes that is easy but for those who who have already background on those things. For us who are not that very technical we have a hard time following the steps and procedures, we sometimes get error.  And so instead of copying blockchain we focus on earning bitcoins rather than how it operates.  Possibly it is a concern of bitcoin holders who have huge amount on their wallet to be concerned on this things.
I quite agree with you. We need concerning about our needs. Are we need for bring our node at anywhere? This about the personal perspective.
Simply method but hardly to say.

I currently have a hard drivejust dedicated to my node, Its not external but its still easy enough to swap it out if i needed. At the size its increasing at i wouldnt really want to keep it on a ssd or anything or my main drive anyways. Its easier to keep track of when its on its own drive.

This is not a bad idea, as every time syncing from scratch takes 40 hrs to get sync'ed and download the whole blockchain. Keeping the base somewhere and sync from there is much simpler and easy.

Why would anyone want to move the blockchain data around with several computers in the first place? If you are intending to keep one personal copy of the blockchain then you wouldn't want to go around and transfer it to different several PCs because in the first place that is somehow inconvenient.

No I dont escrow anymore.
just be careful to only store the blockchain on your external hard disk and not your wallet file because and external hard disk is susceptible to hardware failure more than your internal hard drive which is stationary and also it can be lost or stolen.

The wallet file must be in the datadir, same as the blocks folder. Which of your disks is more likely to fail depends on the disks and not the way they are connected to your system.

it will need more space to download blockchain. Btw, how much is it?

~100 GB right now.

But, the sync process is long for most PC and user have to download the new blocks as well which is big problem if you have slow internet connection.
However if you have already got blockchain data that contain majority of past blocks records than to download few hundred/thousands block's data may not take much time.

The reason being is because if you need to transfer your copy of the blockchain to another computer, it's easy as eject, unplug, plug, and restart Bitcoin Core.
I think you are talking about distributing blockchain database to your friends because there is no point in installing bitcoin core wallet in your multiple computers.

Agree, less technical people which is most people really will have hard time with this advice.
But even more technical people could be suprised with that, i mean its really good advice not to need download blockchain on each computer, just use bitcoin core from external drive.

Thanks man Smiley

but the question is why would anybody want to move blockchain around?
if you want multiple wallets either use different wallets like light wallets on your other computers or you can connect to your main computer that has the whole blockchain through internet and using the APIs that are already available (such as JSON-RPC in core).
