Alright, for those of you who have been wondering what the "mysterious potential" is, I am finally ready to unveil both that, and what this drawing was for in the first place!

Today I'm launching the site bitSyndicated.com, where I hope to offer quality content of various types based around the tipping model, and especially using tips as a more effective form of feedback than merely site stats.  The first post is a comic based on the illustration I sought in this thread.  Check it out!

Once the initial illustrator's fee is paid off, remaining donations received for the comic will be split between the illustrator and the Wikipedia translation bounty for BitCoin articles.  But here's the twist--unlike the initial 10(+1) bitcoins that I awarded to ChaosFox(+joeydangerous), viewers will get to decide whether they prefer the version I chose or the alternate version.  That's the "mysterious potential".  So if you think I made the wrong choice, here's your chance!  And if there's a good response to this one, I will probably be doing something like it again soon.

One thing to note is that I care a lot more about the number of tips than about the total quantity received.  If you like the comic and want to see more cool content, giving even a tiny amount will help to make that happen.  My main goal (besides supporting a good cause) is to find a better way than advertising and stats to fund and provide feedback for content on the web.  Your .02 btc matters! /lame humour

Well, it's 6:13 so I'm gonna call this one.  It was really tough, but I've decided to go for ChaosFox in first place, with joeydangerous as runner-up.  joeydangerous' artwork was amazing, but ChaosFox nailed the police lineup look I was going for.  Both will be eligible for "mysterious potential" and I'm going to also send joeydangerous a bitcoin because that ninja mouse just rocks!  Free software like inkscape, by the way, is also a definite 'in' for my good books.

Stay tuned for the rest of the story, because if it works out I'll be doing more projects like this again.  Great job everyone, and a huge thanks to all who participated!

I'm loving the pink, Tori!  Definitely adds depth to the piece.

@Garrett with entries flowing in this fast I think that might be too long.  I don't want too many people to feel disappointed!  What's her user nick though?

Very nice, joeydangerous.  I think I will have to extend the "mysterious potential" part to at least one runner up, no matter which one I pick!

Hey, non-original is perfectly fine with me--although attribution is nice so I do prefer it.  This has been an incredible response!  I love all your pictures:  great efforts everyone!!

So far I like ChaosFox's drawing the best; purplezky's interpretation has the mouse looking like the sinister one; and shooter_mcgavin's cat is way too cuddly for what I need.  Plus, vectors kick butt.  But I'm very impressed with shooter_mcgavin's photography skills--it's hard to photograph line drawings!

One thing I forgot to do is give out a deadline.  Hopefully this won't thwart anyone already working on a drawing, but shall we say 6 am UTC?  I'm open to changing it if it's a problem.

Edit:  Oops, hadn't checked my pm's yet.  joeydangerous sent in a pretty sweet one, too.  The game's afoot!!

Done!  Grin

If you decide to pick my drawing, I'll send you the .svg file as well, as it's a vector image, it can be scaled as you wish. :3 I can tweak it too if needed.

(And, feel free to search for it in TinEye. Tongue )

The rules are simple:  I want a picture that meets the following criteria.  If multiple pictures are submitted, I will choose the best one.  If no pictures meet my (fairly low) standards, no money will be awarded.  Draw-er of the best accepted picture gets 10 BTC and the mysterious potential for more.

Criteria
  • Drawing should be black and white, either digitally composed or a high-quality scan.  Using xkcd for reference on this point will give you the general idea.
  • Drawing should depict a large cat (Felis Catus) facing the viewer, and a small mouse dressed as a ninja also facing the viewer.  Cat may optionally be eyeing the ninja mouse out of the corner of its eye, or licking its lips, but the basic look is to be police lineup style.
  • Drawing should be a simple line drawing with no background elements.  Excessive detail is undesirable.
  • edit: Deadline for entries is 6am UTC.

That's it.  Go!
