Any suggestions about books?

I think anything Dr. Seuss or Berenstain Bears would appeal to DTC investors.

""Peace, Montag.  Give the people contests they win by remembering the words to more popular songs or the names of state capitals or how much corn Iowa grew last year.  Cram them full of noncombustible data, chock them so full of 'facts' they feel stuffed, but absolutely 'brilliant' with information.  Then they'll feel they're thinking, they'll get a sense of motion without moving.  And they'll be happy, because facts of that sort don't change.  Don't give them any slippery stuff like philosophy or sociology to tie things up with.  That way lies melancholy.  Any man who can take a TV wall apart and put it back together again, and most men can, nowadays, is happier than any man who tries to slide-rule, measure, and equate the universe, which just won't be measured or equated without making man feel bestial and lonely.  I know, I've tried it.  So bring on your clubs and parties, your acrobats and magicians, your daredevils, jet cars, motorcycle helicopters, your sex and heroin, more of everything to do with automatic reflex.  If the drama is bad, if the film says nothing; if the play is hollow, sting me with the theremin, loudly.  I'll think I'm responding to the play, when it's only a tactile reaction to vibration.  But I don't care.  I just like solid entertainment."

the idea of the coin is awesome, but what i fail to understand is how you control the data on the blockchain.
What is somebody uploads CP or banned data (mein kampf in germany) or top-secret data?

I'll answer as a quote from another thread

Datacoin would be worth investing into, but far too risky at this point for any significant funds. Haven't seen what will happen when someone uploads cp for instance...

Just want to sum up all thoughts about this.

1. As I said earlier, there is no simple way to get files from blockchain. You cannot open it and see some sequence of bytes, copypaste it and get CP picture. All files are translated into special format even if they're unencrypted.
2. Quote from reddit's user tehfiend: "For example I could create a binary that when fed Windows system files creates an illegal file as it's output. That doesn't make the Windows system file itself illegal as it needs to be "transformed" by an algorithm. The same is true with the Datacoin blockchain if that makes sense... Regardlless, if this became an issue, a filter could be created that allows users to block sections of the blockchain in their client but this obviously is very undesirable" . I agree - it is pretty simple to create such filters to avoid people from opening\storing some files from blockchain.
3. And yes, don't forget: it's possible to upload CP into blockchain of Bitcoin\Namecoin\etc. So it's your choice: to be or not to be. Not only datacoin, you can get virus that will store CP on your hard drive, and you won't know about that. What is safe - not to use computer Wink But even in that case, if police want to arrest you for any case, it can just fraud you with drugs or weapons - still popular practices in many countries.

I understand that, and I don't think it should matter. "Should" being the critical word here. I'm willing to put in a little money because of that, but I think the concept of datacoin as a permanent way of storing things online would mean that cp being uploaded to it would have a far greater impact than if it were put into Bitcoin or Namecoin.

People who are afraid of that can store DTC in online wallets or VPS (just save wallet.dat on local computer, and use small VPS for wallet). Anyway, there will be many people who are not afraid and who will support the redundancy of network.

And that's exactly why this coin is shit... Let alone the absurd storage requirements it demands.

Hi community,

I did this only as proof-of-concept. The first document officially uploaded into Datacoin is quote from Fahrenheit_451 by R. Bradbury.
The book is about censorship and the destruction of knowledge, two things Datacoin will fight with his permanent and decentralised storage.
Why quote? The book is under copyright, so I don't want to break the law with such first document.

TX ID is 7a5df5718d96c149257650caf38b1b987a2696344cd368f4b6fa4b6ef42b09a9

You can check it on https://krypte.net or encrypt it from http://chainbrowser.com

And I want you to choose books that are not under copyright from here: http://www.gutenberg.org  and post them in the thread.
Books like Bible are also welcome, but remember: now 'big file' functionality is in development, so just now I can upload bigger books that are archived and split into chunks. Books that are <128KB in zipped state are the best choice! Wink

Some suggestions from another thread:

I agree. I think free (copyright expired) ebooks should be stored early on. I would donate 10 DTC to the unofficial team if someone took it up.
Candidates (bzip compressed 50-200 KB / book):
Moby Dick: http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/2701
Beowulf: http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/16328
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland: http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/11
Les Misérables: http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/135

And I'll also donate DTC for storing such books .
