I'm surprised that so many people write that if you haven't read Frank Herbert's novel you won't understand the movie. Well, why can't we abstract ourselves from the book and just enjoy a beautifully made film? Dynamic, entertaining, vivid and clever. Personally I haven't read any of Herbert's books and I really liked the movie. I watched it on 123movies. It's so classically filmed that from the very first minutes you literally dissolve into it. It's like you're transported into that fabulous fantasy desert of Arrakis. You really feel the heat of the sand and the wind. The sand grains swirling around you. Yes, the movie is over 2.5 hours long and I got a little tired towards the end. But to say that I was bored I can not.

I agree that the movie is engaging and persuasive and I understand that it can be number one for someone who didn't read a books. But people who read the books are missing that philosophical aspect of whole series and that seductive atmosphere of desert Fremen. For such a people is thus hard to abstract and enjoy  Wink.

I like the movie, but it was just half of first book. The more important things just didn't happen in the movie. And it wasn't good enough. So don't be lazy and read the book!  Grin You don't know what you are missing!

I think Timotée Chalamet is a brilliant actor and was perfect as Paul Altreides.
Dune is a thrill and I would highly recommend checking it out.
One of the reasons I’m praying for a sequel is to see Timotée again in the part.

I am a fan of books and, well, I think I like it. But it is early to say - first I must see a second half of the movie. But I don't think it will be a masterpiece. The book is masterpiece and IMHO movie is far from it.

If you compare it to the book, it's 50/50. The book is a real work of art, but it takes time. Now, by the way, augmented reality books are very cool to read. If you want a quick look at the story, watch the movie. But I think that Dune will be a masterpiece year from now like it was with Ridley Scott's Blade Runner.
