This is a humorous turn of events:  Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has threatened a decloration of war against Canada, and even threatened to dump all their abandoned trash on Canada's beaches.

Duterte's beef with the Canucks stems from over 100 Canadian shipping containers that have been sitting in a Manila dock for almost 6 years.  The containers were labeled as containing recyclable materials, but in fact they're literally full of shit.

The shipping containers arrived in Manila in 2013 and 2014, after Philippine officials say an Ontario-based private firm falsely declared the containers held recyclable materials.

But it later turned out that it was actually household trash — inspectors even found used adult diapers.

The Philippines cannot even defend their small islands against China, and Duterte wants to declare war against a very superior country, sometimes I don't treat him seriously, there are a lot of instances where all he is saying are pure none sense, but surprisingly he has a good satisfaction rating.

In this case the contracts were for recyclable materials.
What are those materials that can be recycled? Trash right? What these Canadians brought to Philippines? Recyclable materials right, in the contract you say. Either way, it's trash.

Obviously Canada isn't limited in real estate, so I'm not sure why they don't build another land-fill to manage their own.
EXACTLY! After all, it's a big country.

Another thing, why did Canadians wanted their trash on my country?

It's my understanding that many developed countries with limited real estate contract with less developed countries that have ample real estate to manage their refuse.  In this case the contracts were for recyclable materials.  Obviously Canada isn't limited in real estate, so I'm not sure why they don't build another land-fill to manage their own.

Canadian here, a damn shame how this all went down.  i love how he's literally threatening WAR over this, THAT guy loves his country WOW :O
i mean let's face it, a single team of our special operations could prob disable him and most of his country, but gotta love the guys SPIRIT . Our leader up here most consider to not be of the same spine caliber Cheesy
He really loves my country and I love his patriotism because of all the things he did for my country. But the point in here is, the army of ours is no match with yours. Another thing, why did Canadians wanted their trash on my country? What is my country? A dumpsite?

I don't think anyone outside the Philippines still take him seriously. As for the containers unless he can find a connection between that private company and the Canadian government, he really can't force Canada to do something about it. The Philippines just don't have leverage in anything.

He can claim a connection of course (like how almost everyone believe the CCP give orders to Chinese companies operating outside China) but he need to find a way to sue them.

I don't remember if they've already went after the local company that's supposed to "buy" the "recyclable" materials.

Yeah if the canadian government claims these are from private companies, it's going to be difficult dealing with it legally unless the philippine government can exactly pinpoint where it came from. With the ph president's overfriendliness with china, it's also not going to get him much attention from western countries. Going to war against canada over garbage is a big joke and this president knows it.

He's all talk on this issue so far. There's nothing concrete being done about it. I believe the previous administration has also complained about this but nothing happened. Can't remember exactly if it's this same shipment or a different one.

China is clamping down on trash they receive, they want better sorted trash and they want only those they can recycle for their own use. They ain't taking regular trash no more. I'm seeing incidents like happening more often in months to come, trash being dumped to developing countries.

WEll if he can do it,then let it be but i am afraid this was just a spoken tongue and not an acting hand, the man is known in the philippines as strong person but he speaks alot that sometimes turn to unethical way that a president are doing
But this is a cool event to wait if what Duterte can do about this issue since he already say a thing that can threaten the international community

LOL the guy would threaten war over trash but ask his citizens to just accept Chinese dominance after their territory in the South China Sea has been stolen and their fishermen regularly harrassed and extorted by the Chinese Coast Guard. Even went so far as to joke that the Philippines better just voluntarily join China as a new province.

everybody can paint or buy shipping containers and put a flag of another country on it. its easy to blame foreigners, the pazific has many big countries that might put waste into it, duterte simply blames the richest & weakest at the same time. wouldnt be easy to blame russia, china, japan, usa and others are poor as this

You basically described how bullies operate. I don't think Canada would take the bait though. Unlike say, US or China, they don't have as much geopolitical stake in the region.

And he can't use this to shame Trudeau, people online already regularly call the guy spineless anyway.

when bullyism isnt officially allowed with armies, its being executed with social behavior

Someone is threating to throw some nukes, and Philipine president is threatening to throw back Canadian garbage. Declaration of war seems to be a joke rather than any serious intension to start a military conflict. Anyway, it doesn't seem to be such a serious issue that should be resolved on the top level by top politicians.
I'm surprised that some people are taking this article serious.

If you have read the article you will have fine out that the Canadian minister of interior have referred the question to the minister of environment and that the country is willing to obey the court rolling, so that is an indication that the government is aware of the whole situations. Both the Philippine government and Canada government should fine a lasting solution to this because those containers have been dumped there for over six years without any action.

That's really worse to harm the people of other countries with the wastes. Canada being a developed country with less population has got each and everything advanced and connected to technology, even in the cryptocurrency market their participation is big. Also the chances seems to be low that the containers belong to Canada from my view, also a perfect investigation will get the true proprietary.
