Just to say i've had a look round and the data was last collected off coinzen.org on the 1st August 2015 here https://web.archive.org/web/20150801091922/http://coinzen.org/

So i can grab the threads and conversations etc if needs be and import to http://devcointalk.org/ if this is what we want to do?? is more work so would rather have consensus from community as to where the new forum will be, as said before happy to run devcointalk on my server, have been running peercointalk for over 3 years now, no issues, nice community, good experience on keeping out spammers etc.

Just let me know what u think.

Also if anyone having sign up issues atm sorry, litterally just switched the forum back on last night and can see the email nameservers are not correct so confirmation emails will not have gone out.  I'll see if i can resolve this tonight.

The signup worked for me last night fine Fuzzybear.

Your standing up to the plate is really appreciated. Shattienator has prepped and is committed to put up the forum once we have decided on branding. It would be nice to bring him in as Forum Administrator due to his great skill with PHP projects in the past as well as offering him an Admin position after his continued loyalty to the project. If anyone disagrees with that reasoning then consensus always works for me. Wink

- Nova

Hey nova,

No problem for me stepping up to give us devcoiners a dedicated forum of their own, am happy to run, many thanks for verifying the sign up process worked to.

Yes more than happy to assign some admins out for this, Peercointalk keeps me quite busy on there admin side of things as it is so the last thing i want is to take on the sole responsibility for this admin job.  Just need to confirm the settings are good on devcointalk and ideally a bit of communication for who should be assigned admins etc, i will probably put a few extra roles on the forum to as i have done for peercointalk which allows spam killers or thread organisers to put threads in right section and keep them on topic, but let me duplicate what i have on peercointalk as i know this all works well.

Don't know if it changes things, but pretty sure coinzen.org will be back in your hands very soon.

The current owner of the domain seems like a reasonable individual, and has agreed to release the domain upon settlement of some unfinished business. I have agreed to pay off what he feels is payment due him, and not sure how the domain transfer will get done, but pretty sure you'll have the domain back in just a few days.

He also asked if you need a disk image in order to restore the forum. If so, he'll get that for you as well.

TT

This is odd TT as after exchanging emails with the administrative address they said they were planning to put it up in an auction. If they have a disk image then it would appear you have been talking to tenthirtyone about it? BTW, a backup from 2015-08-15 is available. That was almost the last day up by my reconning.

Personally the idea of a rebranding using forum.devcoin.org would be my preference. We could start with the backup to ensure we have everyone's account and then let ashleysly loose with a makeover. The plan was to focus on all things DevCoin, only, so the CoinZen is kind of misleading.

CoinZen.org would be handy to redirect traffic, though, as there are loads of links out there that could get clicked on.

Just my 2 shatoshi worth. Wink

Completely agree. IMHO forum should be at forum.devcoin.org, and coinzen.org should redirect to it. There may be another purpose for coinzen.org. On the other hand, just because I don't see the reason for having the forum at coinzen.org, doesn't mean there isn't a good reason for doing so, and I'm not close enough to know much. so please take my opinion for what it's worth.

Anyway will PM details about the domain name.

Why not just use a sub domain of devcoin.org like forum.devcoin.org?

That sounds like a great idea to me.

- Nova

So how come we don't use that sub-domain? Would be perfect!

That is the best thing we can make in terms of branding. Just my 2c.

Hi,

Since I had no further replies from you (even before coinzen went down) I deleted your invoice to prevent DVC to be sent into oblivion. Your new address has to be validated first. So you are not gonna make it into this round either. You can pm me here.

Sorry to hijack the current discussion.  With coinzen down, this seems to be my only hope. First, my apologies for the length of this post. I figure it might avoid problems to have all the details of my issue.

My Devtome username is bomac (not misterbomac)

I recently had a computer crash that had my dvc wallet, leading to 2 problems.

1) I needed to get a new wallet and change my tip address or else my dvc would go into oblivion

2) I couldn't get into my account to change my address or post articles, because my browser was remembering my password and I had only recorded in to a file in the crashed computer.

However... I had also discovered another problem, not related to the laptop crash:  I had not been getting coins for 2 rounds.

I posted on coinzen where Novacadian was the first to be very helpful, leading me to get back into my account, (thanks to admin Dinkleberg), where I changed my tip address on the invoice page to my new wallet.

Admin Flan discovered the issue with the dvc payments. I had evidently deleted some syntax on my invoice page while adding an article listing. He addressed that and soon I was showing a 49 word count for round 50.

I had 70 K + words in uncredited articles, and Flan told me I'd get the balance credited to round 51. I wondered why it was 49 wordcount, rather than 50. I thought maybe, for some reason I had lost out on the balance. To check that, I added a 2K+ article, several days before round 50 submission deadline was up, but it stayed a 49.

The new issue:

While fighting off sleep one night, I checked my wordcount and saw it was at 0, instead of 49.  I messaged Flan via coinzen, and promptly forgot about this new issue, due to sleep deprivation, I'm sure.  When I awoke, I was thinking the only issue was why 49 rather than 50, and would I get the other 25K in round 51.

Flan messaging me, but I wasn't getting his messages, not looking for or expecting them and not checking my email either.  After the submission deadline for round 50, I was in my email inbox and saw the messages from Flan.

He was asking if there was anyway I could get my old wallet working. He wasn't sure, but he thought the problem had to do with the change of tip address.  Now that coinzen is down, I'm not able to contact Flan.  I messaged him here, but 3 days later, today, I see that he's not active here.

I can not get the old wallet back. The best computer guy I've ever known tried to see if he could salvage anything from my hard drive, but it's 100% inaccessible.

What can be done?

Thanks so much!

bomac

Sorry if this is common knowledge, but what happened to the forum?

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.12136563

- Nova

Yes, saw that Nova, but I guess my question was more along the lines of how that could have happened because hijacking a domain is not easy these days, and registrars usually give ample warning to pay the small renewal fee before allowing a registered domain to be resold.

Anyway...

Why not just use a sub domain of devcoin.org like forum.devcoin.org?

I would prefer .co domain instead. It can be a appreviation for community, cooperation or just coin. It's the best in my opinion.

Since the coinzen forum is going to be switching soon, I will use this thread to post bounty proposals:

I'd like to propose a bounty for 240 shares, for sidhujag to update the devcoin client (https://github.com/sidhujag/devcoin-wallet) and devcoin android wallet (https://github.com/sidhujag/devcoin-android) from its current version, 8.5.1, to the newest bitcoin core, 0.11.0.

Notable changes per release:
0.9.0: https://bitcoin.org/en/release/v0.9.0 - windows 64 bit installer, autotools build system, bitcoin-cli changes
0.10.0: https://bitcoin.org/en/release/v0.10.0 - Faster synchronization, Transaction fee changes, RPC access control changes, REST interface, improved signing security, watch-only wallet support, and more
0.11.0: https://bitcoin.org/en/release/v0.11.0 - Block file pruning, memory usage optimization, improved fee estimation, improved privacy

If there are no objections, this will go into effect in about a week.

I totally support the move and change of forum that is hopefully going to take place. If it's going to be open source and creative commons. And I believe Papacrusher is correct with the idea of still having altcurrency.

I'm not that good with naming but I would say opensourcedvc.com or creativedevelopers.com or dvctalk.com

Maybe not .com, but .org? Org sounds much better for open source idea.

P.S. There are lot of "Creative Developers" sites, FB groups etc.

I've not been following very closely, and just visited coinzen for the first time in a long time, but see it's down. Nothing at .com or .org. Just read some history and don't see anything about it. Sorry if this is common knowledge, but what happened to the forum?

TT

Basically someone else owns coinzen domain and we can't really get it back as they want to sell it off. Therefore we are looking to get a new domain which then everything will start from fresh.

Recommend you don't post domain name suggestions publicly for obvious reasons. Maybe ask for folks to check availability then pm suggestions for available domains.

This is a good point, just send domain name ideas in a pm to me. I didn't think it was a big deal since there are a ton of new gtlds coming out, it doesn't have to be .com or .org any more, but it might be easier to select the best of the bunch and put get the admin list to decide it.

Regarding spam, would it take too much time to just verify new accounts manually? How many legitimate new accounts can you get daily? Just send a form letter email to all new accounts a couple times a day, personal responses with a legitimate reason for wanting to post get enabled, the others get discarded. The job might even be entertaining, and a nice way to meet new members of your community.

TT

I'm not sure about this, Shattienator might know more about how possible/easy this is, although I do know spam accounts were a huge problem on coinzen.

Spam filters should be adjusted quite often.
But in any case it is not problem to manually verify about hundred accounts a day. Spam accounts usually have rubbish emails of very-very detailed description. Very few real users provide full description including full name, location, birthday, several hobbies and lot lot more - all at once Smiley
Mainly all spam accounts can be identified almost immediatelly.
