I wouldn't recommend either bank transfer or money order. Both are extremely dangerous for the buyer. If you're going to transfer money through the bank better use cryptsy. So far they are honest compared to other exchanges that got "hacked".

the easiest OR the  fastest way to buy bitcoin .
The easiest is to buy by bank transfer , but will need 1 week to get your bitcoin in you walet.
The fastest is to buy by Money Transfer(WU and MoneyGram) , you have the bitcoins in your walet in 1-2 hours

Cryptsy. Fees are solid, though.

Thanks, I'll give Localbitcoins a shot. I'm in Santa Monica, CA.
Don't use localbitcoins, too high of prices. Look into Coinbase.com or Circle.com and use your bank account to buy for 1% fee. It takes about a week but if you're in no rush to acquire the BTC then its your cheapest option. Good luck.

You can easily find a seller in your City.

Which City are you in? (and country?)

If you are in London - I can sell you some.

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, but what is the easiest way to buy $2500 worth of Bitcoins? I have cash in hand now (well, in my checking account anyway). I do have PayPal, but from what I've read using it for anything Bitcoin related is a big no-no.

It would be very tough for somebody to accept your PayPal unless he/she really trust you.
If you have cash in hand I would say the quickest way to get your coins are:
1. Meet somebody in person (localbitoins, mycelium trader, etc...)
2. Use a remittances service and buy from somebody you can trust (WU, MG, etc...)
For that amount I would recommend you use an escrow.
Good luck.
