with just a single fan the e9 is really loud, comparable to an S9 by itself

Is anyone compare the noise level between 1 S9 and  2 Ebang E9?

Sorry about the delay on the power numbers.

The miner is running 6.48th. I am seeing 4.72 amp on 208 (PSU is 93% efficient) so they seem to pull around 1000w at the wall.

Also this is Ebangs first mining chip and it has not been on the market very long. On something as complicated as in house design of an ASIC the chances of them being the best/most efficient on the first try is most likely pretty low.

while the HTTPS broken admin in Chinese was a PITA , after setup Ebang pose 0 problem. Consistent run times for ages now.

I posted pictures of the 6 PCI-E version months ago in the other ebang thread. I am actually going to do some amp clamp tests to get REAL power numbers today. I will post what I find so everyone can have an accurate idea of the efficiency.

i'm waiting for this date ...
i was chatting on Skype with EBIT E9 customer support ...
they Told me 780$+100$ for delivery in EU eBit E9 + psu + shipment.
i also ask why, with a 14nm chip, ASIC E9 is less efficient than the S9 with a 16nm chip ..
if i ask too is a problem of firmware optimization ..
but i have got no answer!
14/16nm for all intents and purposes are the same regarding efficiency. To date only Samsumg and Global Foundries (under license with Samsung) is producing 14nm chips and TSMC doing 16nm which is slightly easier to produce.. Intel and IBM don't count because they do not share their production fabs with outsiders.

As for comparing to the s9 -- same thing as comparing a s9 to the Avalons or BitFury rigs which both use 16nm chips or even to the T9 (same chip as s9): When used in the s9 and R4 miners the design was driven to be be "highest efficiency on the planet". It worked but at the expense of the miners often being unstable/unreliable because the chips are running at bare minimum core voltage (Vcore).

Same chip used in the s9/R4 is used in the T9 and so far no one has trouble with the T9. Why? Because Bitmain is using a higher Vcore which increases power usage but also make the chips more stable. Same for Avalons and BitFury and probaly EBang: Higher Vcore for more stability. Good choice to make.

Per the initial review in another thread it's 3 connectors per board, so the point is moot - that's well under 200 watts/connector.

BTW, it's not the fault of the CONNECTOR that some folks had cables melt 'cause they didn't use cables with adequate wire gauge.

Correct, 16 AWG or bust.

From that photo it looks like there are 6 PCIe connections

Maybe you are correct. But on the website expanded as big as I could it looks like two.

I am a gear head I buy tons of different gear.  All the miners that draw 225 watts or more per jack have melted or heated cables too much...

So I will let others be first on this gear.

Many sp20s melted cables.

Using 2 jacks per board is simply not wise.

The biggest reason the sp20s did not melt more then they did was they became really huge power hogs at top speed most of use ran them at 700-800 watts and 1250-1350 gh.

When people pushed to get 1550-1650gh the power went up and many pcie cables failed.

A six pin cable rates 150. Which is conservative 200 is doable but 237. Watts  at  24/7/365 is asking for melted plugs and or jacks

I see 4 pcie jacks  and a meter at 1020 watts.

I smell melted plastic

No worse than the Spondoolies SP20E - most of which ran QUITE reliably, if not at their quoted hashrate, pulling a machine-limited 288 watts per connector (which IS the spec for the CONNECTOR).

Titans and Neptunes had issues 'cause they were trying to pull 300+ watts through those same connectors, and had marginal setups on the circuit board to handle the current level.

They definitely need to work on communications and on pricing to be competative though, except perhaps for folks that want miners "RIGHT NOW" and don't want to wait on the next batch of whatever out of BitMain or pay Avalon pricing for the 721.

the SP20/20E pull that 288 like nothing. Out of 1000s , maybe 2-3 have had PCIe failure. good guage, good psu, good running environment, best single box model for profit per box.

I would never use any gear that looks for 255 watts a jack   yeah I know it is at the wall reading but I have melted enough wires to know it is a fuckup on the builders part to spec 4 jacks  and not six.

1020 watts at the wall  the psu is 93% so 950 watts is 237 watts at the jack run that 24/7/365  I won't

Wow, if this is real it might cause some competition again in the ASIC industry would be exciting to see them compete against Bitmain.
We may even get some price drops out of it Cheesy

The efficiency is lower than S9. If you pay electricity, then it is better to use S9 if the price is not very cheap.

When I am about to place an order for 10 units E9, the sales person requested 50% up front payment. I stepped back after that.

They're willing to front you 50%?

VERY generous for the cryptocoin mining industry, which has traditionally been "FULL payment in advance".

What I mean is they are currently out of stock, but will be available by the end of December. If want to order now, they are requesting me to pay 50% as deposit and pay the remaining 50% when those miners are ready to ship. That's a red flag for me.

Yep, which is why most of these companies don't do so well with small buyers early on Wink They seem like ok people, but you still don't know if they're going to run with your money or not. I'll wait until they start selling to smaller buyers first before proceeding.

feedback from buyers?
Did anybody buy this miner?
Would love to see some reviews.

Zero. They seem legit as of now, but they don't seem to have sold to any big resellers or anybody willing to review yet. Makes them look a bit fishy, but at least it isn't one of those prebuy scams we often see with bitcoin mining. Maybe the buyers are lying low, but we have no solid evidence this miner ever existed.

if anyone knows them , put us in touch. I'll buy and verify , including multiple highly regarded escrow providers , merchants.  Right now , the market is hot. Inside CN , miners sell like water in the desert. Outside CN , well , an hour or two for bitmain available new, high per unit from Canaan, nothing public from Bitfury. If it's legit, let's vet it and get the sales going. Hopefully they aren't also @ TSMC =p.

Assuming the media that I follow reported truth, they could not keep up with the demand. They sold out 5k stock immediately on the day of launch and currently fulfilling orders for big purchaser. I don't think they are interested in dealing with small buyers yet.

Avalon 721 ballpark efficiency.

They would have to price this miner 20-30% less per TH than the S9 before Bitmain felt significant price pressure.

Do note that Bitmain DID drop the price on the R4 recently - apparently the Avalon is quiet ENOUGH that Bitmain felt it represented real competition for the R4, so they dropped the R4 price down ALMOST in line on a $/TH basis to the S9.

It's also interesting to note that the S9 price DROP got partly rolled back about the same timeframe.

Expected. From this big a company, they can afford dropping prices and thus killing competition. Bitmain's always going to be on top with pricing and efficiency, even if these guys dropped prices Bitmain's R4 and S9 will still be more popular due to higher efficiency.

First Chinese review is out:
http://www.cybtc.com/thread-16686-1-1.html

Power consumption is disappointing, 1018W using their PSU @ 93% efficiency.
Actual hash rate is somewhat *higher* (6.4~6.5 vs 6.3) than advertised.
Noise is comparable to S9 full throttle.

If you can't read Chinese, use google translate.

0.16W/Gh makes it no chances bitmain will drop prices

Did an inquiry with Ebit about the 0.15 J/Gh on their ASIC.  Their reply to me was our machines do not use ASIC chips, kind of a scary reply.

What am I not understanding?  I thought you could only have a successful miner using ASIC, unless they are not mining Bitcoin.

Can someone help me out here?

rofl if that's what they truly intended to present. I found they have some English language barriers on their website.

I read an interview transcript with their CEO today. When asked how they see themselves in the market while stronger competitors like Bitmain, Avalon, and Bitfury are already in 14nm with similar or even better efficiencies, the CEO responded "The quick money age of mining has long gone. From now on and forward, mining is going to be a long game so one critical factor that matters to all miners is an adequate warranty system that can back them up." I like this statement a lot and want to see they actually put it into actions.
According to the interview, they currently have 13 service locations and more to come in China. They offer 6 month warranty on the miner in compliance with China's national consumer policy standards.

Anyway, they will have a presentation on December 11 and open global sales that date. I am looking forward to its outcome.

i fully agree, mining IS a long game now.
well now, THIS might make things interesting...
how often do we say we would even pay MORE if we had some ACTUAL warranty/we knew the machines would last even a damn YEAR :/
6 MONTH warranty, thats pretty sweet for a miner (from what i have seen)

Dosent seem that impressive for 14nm if the s9 is at 16nm and 0.098 J/GH :/

good to see competition tho, i wonder how DURABLE they are compared to the s9...

14nm and 16nm are pretty much interchangeable for efficiency and speed.
It's more of a "labeling" difference than any REAL difference.

On the other hand, it's pretty sad that the newer entrants are settling for the 150w/TH ballpark.
I mean, we're lucky to be getting any competition at all. Always good to see this, but these guys have yet to prove themselves in this mining world. Perhaps they may be decent, nobody knows, but for now all we have is guessing and educated guesses. It's also safe to assume these guys don't have as much experience in the ASIC field. Give them some time and you'll get results.

Looks a little more like that "hot water heater" company's prototype but a bit cleaner.

PS output is rated for 120 amps - then you split that on 12 leads = 10 amps per lead = exceed the max rating of the CONNECTOR, much less the too-thin wires others have commented on already.

I would avoid buying that PS.

Maybe I overlooked their PSU's. TBH I don't really care what crappy PSU they make since I have no intention using their PSU's any way. The only concern to me is the quality as you guys pointed out may render their miners in the same manner.

We have a lot more choices in PSU today but not so many in miners. I expect they realize they are a new player in this arena and they need to do more than a decent job to take shares from Bitmain and Avalon.

agreed but from past experience  4 pcie jacks for 800-900 watts is very often bad.

I mean this from the miner end.

Their psu is a no go as running 800-900 watts on four 18 gauge cables is a no go.

Still one more thing it really looks like the avalon 721

The psu looks like a real issue

imgur is slow  but the 4 cables are 18ga

they are 12 inches long which means the psu is about 10 inches.

I do not want to do 6.3 x 140 = 882 watts on 4x 18 ga cables

so guys like j4bbrwock optimizer itop that sell 16 ga cables may be the better choice.
Plus also one must note that the PSU voltage output is rated @ 0 amps -- no load. Big whoop. Voltage under full load please?

As for where the chips are from, since they claim to be 14nm that means the Foundry is either Samsung or GloFo. Now what chips are used -- anybody's guess at this point.

1. 1500w PSU looks really dense, 50% de size of normal server PSU or APW3 Bitmai, PSU
2. PSU has 4 PCIE plugs, seems a little light (KNC memories anyone ?)
3. Whare are they getting chips from ?

TBH, I haven't looked at all the website because it's slow as hell for me, has anyone tryed calling them on the number listed on the website ?

Plus I can't find info on whois request.

Folks,

I came across this news today and would like to share it with you.

http://miner.ebang.com.cn/en/index.html

Currently they are a public company in China and recently launched their E9 miner product. Domestic sales started on December 4 and global sales starting on December 11.

Mining efficiency appears to come close to A7 but price wise seems to be around US$125/T.

I read their warranty (on domestic sales) has a coverage of 180 days. Looking forward to learning more about them.

If anyone has further information to share, please feel free to contribute too.
