Maybe do a comparison of Bitcoin vs Dogecoin?

Perhaps something as simple as price variation over time?

I'm hilighting Dogecoin because the imho the change in the econmics is interesting.

Do Austerity. It's a hot topic these days, lots of evidence saying it's a bad way to kickstart the economy, but for some reason it's happening anyway.

The impact of Bitcoin emergence on incidence of Key-loggers in PCs.
The impact of Bitcoin emergence on Internet gambling.
The impact of Bitcoin emergence on mail purchases of drugs.
The correlation of Bitcoin wealth to computer awareness.
etc.
etc.

(I'm not sure how you would collect data on any of this...)

Oh yeah.. The impact of Bitcoin emergence on number of econ-crypto cross publications.  Wink

As much as I would love to do that, they want something a little more concise. This, straight from the outline of the research paper.
Introduction:
Quote
This part includes components 1 and 2 of a research proposal as Greenlaw describes
it on pages 26-27. In the introduction, you should carefully state your research
topic. Be careful to narrow your research focus to a specific research question. For
example, "Social Security reform" is too broad, but could be narrowed to "The impact
of the increase in the Social Security retirement age on the labor supply of older
Americans". In this section, you should also explain why your topic is important.
If your topic is related to public policy, you might cite an article from the popular media
to indicate the importance of the topic.

Any concise topics anyone would be interested in?

Hey guys. I'm a double major in computer science and economics. For my summer economics course, I have to write a 10-15 page research paper. The paper has to have a much more analytical feel to it. They appear to be looking for a cause and effect kind of paper (what effect does X have on Y? What would X look like if we Y?) And I wanted to do a paper on bitcoin/cryptocurrencies in general. Problem is, I can't think of any topics that would be doable with the current data available online. Any suggestions?

Data is plenty, and you can interpret it however you like.

One interesting topic might be: The emergence of crypto currencies.

You can argue something like bitcoin is inevitable given that all the technologies needed for it are already there. And how the financial crisis give the opportunity for the emergence of bitcoin.
