Nigeria is one of the countries that make election period a time to have enemity all over because they believe election can never be free and fair, and therefore, blood must be shed to get into certain political positions. It has been the way they operate,so the 2023 election is already giving heat about what will come.
There is no country across The Nation that during their election periods of that particular nation that enemies of not come around so I believe that they must have enemies in order to have an opponent during an election so it is satin it does not mean that Nigeria government he the worst so far because what is happening in Nigeria is also happening in another country qualities and especially during an election
You can only say what you know and don't say what you don't know this particular place is a place that will make a suggestion based on what we have known already or what we have experience so making a baba and respond is not really nice or ID from my own understanding

In this our country we take the things that are not serious too serious, because the youths are ready to kill each other just to do the biddings of the politicians. Election is never a period where you throw your anger on a different set of people all in the name of party this party that, at the end we end up making the wrong decision and cry for 4yrs.

The question is, why don't we think as one and cast our vote on the candidate of our choice without fighting or killing ourselves for no reason? No amount of money politicians will give to us to cause havock on the election day that will last till the end of there tenor, eventually they'll see us as terrorist or something bad.

It happens in most countries, not just Nigeria, but just Nigeria that leaders don't care about their youth, well-being, having jobs, or anything else good in their life, so when it's time for election the youth take it do or die just for them to fight for the right person to change their country. When it comes to elections, Nigerian citizens fight for their rights and what will come in the future while the candidate wins the election.
to me , youths are the major problem Nigeria,. Their have not really decided on the fortune of the country. The politicians are just using the youths to gain their political ambitions, and when they get into power they forget then.

Election should free an devoid of Crises, that's what democracy is all about. Not the way Nigeria politicians are known for, they see politics as do and die affairs. Because it's only career that's paying more than any business in Nigeria.

Our politicians has make us to believe that election in Nigeria is do-or-die affair because they are ready to spend their last breath to get power, incite tribal and religion violence among the citizens, just take time and listen to All their campaign rallies you will differentiate them

Even as hate speech is an offence in Nigeria but it doesn't affect the political class is only applicable to the common citizens, Nigeria is in its what state now

At one time, the Nigerian people lost hope in the electoral process because they believed it couldn't be free and fair. Our political elites see election day as war day to take power, which they believe is everything. We believe there will be a revolution this time because of the new electoral law.

If the salaries of political office holders in Nigeria are not too enormous then election wouldn't be a do or die affair.

The election is only a month and few weeks away and the tension in the country seems to add more pressure. No one knows what to expect but from previous elections which has been bloody with lots of horrible and terrifying experience many will stop their loved ones from exercising their  franchise. Nigeria strongly need interventions ahead of the election else it might record the worst casualties ever.

Let’s be hopeful of the election this time around in Nigeria. It’s true that they’ve had bad situations in elections period many times before now, but I’m hopeful that a change will occur this time around. Other countries are experiencing this especially the developing countries that are fighting for supremacy within themselves. I just hope the African continent will emulate from other developed countries on how they conduct their elections.
I join faith with you brother, this time this election will be free from violence. The New electoral acts of 2022 give INEC full independent to operate. I
I believe we shall witness less violence and high turnout of voters

When government is corrupt, voting and elections are corrupt. Voting simply means that you agree with the system that promotes voting. And that is all that a government that makes voting mandatory is looking for... the appearance of support for their system.

Voting doesn't generally correct corruption. Rather, it often enhances the corruption.

It's nothing new, political seats in developing countries are mostly contested no longer on the basis of a humanitarian call. Starting from residents who lack awareness about how to do politics in a healthy way, they are very fanatical towards candidates from their group so that they can do primitive methods (shedding blood) either during the pre-election or post-election.

I think it's a situation for many other countries where the elections are considered a do-or-die scenario. So it's up to the country's people to take the step to ensure free and fair elections. But unfortunately, people prefer to fight rather than take steps for smooth and creamy elections.

We Nigerians are more equipped to safeguard Nigerians from electoral violence than any amount of foreign NGOs. Any violence during the upcoming election must be held accountable by each of us. Youths need to cease serving as thugs for politicians. Nigeria has seen enough violence; we need to speak out against anything that could lead to election violence. To ensure that there is peace, we need to communicate with the political parties.

I think this is just the same as many underdeveloped and developing nations out there. I later blame the people very much, it is the effect on a people whose government and occupants of public services meant to serve the people have used there position to instill suffering on its people, use that for a tool to direct the actions and thoughts.

This has been the idea for a long time but the people have gotten to its yield or breaking point and are now resisting. Times are changing and there would be a time for free, fair and an election where the blood of innocent citizens won't be spilled.

It's become a norm for humans to attach the use of force to achieve anything and it's now looking like it's Nigeria that is taking this phrase "the violent taketh it by force" more seriously. Just like most of us have tried to only limit this do-or-die attitude to just election, I'd say from observation, it affects all spheres of life.

The baffling thing is that after we have achieved what we want using force, we still lack contentment and then I ask myself, what was the point in the first place??🤔🤔🤔

In Nigeria, almost everything is a life-or-death situation. The system is set up in such a way that no one plays fairly. Politicians engage in all kinds of inconceivable behavior to win elections, including using armed thugs and bribing the police and other security personnel, even the army. Politics has been left in the hands of outcasts who view it as a way to enrich themselves and gain enormous power rather than as a way to help others. Some of them even go so far as to dress their hired goons in security uniforms so that voters won't see them during the election. When they arrive at a polling location, they intimidate or drive away voters before carrying the ballots to a location where they will thumbprint and record the results in favor of their principals.

Not only elections but even religious and educational pursuits are suddenly life or death situations. Students would engage in all manner of immoral behavior in order to pass an exam. One example is a female student who was caught sleeping with her professor. People are battling on religion alone, with Christians killing Muslims and Muslims killing Christians because they don't worship the same deity. In Nigeria, nothing is working.

Hired thugs paid to follow someone about at all times, and while doing so, they kill and damage property to seize control the ballot materials. In this World Party, an election is viewed as a do-or-die situation.
It's no news that these participating candidates would do all it takes to make the election go in their favor to the extent of employing the assistance of the Force; hence the insistence of the Chief of Defense Staff to all forces to try and stay away from involving themselves in any form of election violence.
2023 will be a tough one and I hope it ends favorably.

As it should be, elections should be viewed as a process of changing the administration and installing people who can be trusted and are qualified to lead. Elections in Africa have always been fraught with anxiety and fear; as a result, some citizens leave their homes to wait until the vote is counted. partisan organizations Hired thugs are paid to follow someone about at all times, and while doing so, they kill and damage property to seize control the ballot materials. In this World Party, an election is viewed as a do-or-die situation.

Well, as it is in Nigeria, so it is in so many other places. Sometimes I'd say Nigeria has it less when it comes to election violence compared to countries like Kenya, India and even Russia.
For the case of Putin, he served as president since 2000-2008 and resumed power in 2012 till date. And people suspect his rise to power was not a fair and honest one.
Nigeria just has the badluck of always voting in the wrong sets of leaders the moment few currencies has exchanged hands. I doubt that Nigerians experience much coercion during election though.
Nigeria is a nation which is very corrupt,  from its leaders to even the citizens.  Election in Nigeria is really something else people tend to go extra miles just to be sure that they actually become victorious in the election. Politician in Nigeria see it as a show ground  of who has the  greater influence. The people involved in the election prefer hoarding public fund to keep for them selves and in so inslaving the poor and oppressing  them on their right. The tusle for power in Nigeria is really a thing that needs to be look into maybe by external bodies who are more specialised in handling election processes because its never a scene to witness

Why should an election in your country be a do or die affairs matters, this same challenges you're having currently in the country is almost similar to what others are having as well just some little differences making the rate or level of bad governance so glaring beyond any doubt, you have to believe that everywhere is corrupt but the degrees to this is what makes the difference and as to those that aren't corrupt to that extent they have other unethical segregations they do relating to politics or social lives that go against the common interests of the people.
I believe that Nigerian politics are fundamentally corrupt. It is a way for the privileged class to get wealthier. Everyone who enters politics or is given a leadership position does so with the primary goal of enriching his family and siphoning government funds for his unborn children's generation. Taking into account the severity of the situation in the nation(hardship).

Another aspect is that even the wealthy use politics as the fastest and surest means to make hard currency in the nation. even if it causes the poor to become further poorer. My argument is that our so-called heroes' past gave birth to Nigerian politics in that way, and until something cruel happens by removing the corrupt leaders, it will continue to be their ordeal of "do or die election"

I understand each country has it own pattern when it comes to election but we need not to get distracted by the propaganda forgetting the needful being done which is the call to service, we are humanbeings for crying loud and not animals that has no option or personal opinion for an expression of interest, right and liberty, if you think the country really needs a change in the rulerships pattern in it democratic era then we options like engaging in freedom fight, revolution, military coup and rule, if the masses can voice out their voices can be heard because they are the majority to this few people calling themselves leaders and international rescue can also come in through raising the alarm.

The 2023 election is already giving heat to what will come.

We should not predict the outcome of the 2023 elections based on what has been witnessed in the previous elections in Nigeria as a matter of fact, the 2023 election is going to be different from other elections because the citizens of Nigeria have been clamoring for change and I believe the youths especially will make use of this opportunity to vote for a credible candidate that will bring a positive change in the economy of the country. The heat I see is the fact that some blind politicians are still campaigning for candidates whom they know that has nothing good to offer for the development of the country.

I have never seen a country where the election is never free and fair. Either the system is corrupt or some naive citizen allows the political theft to use them as a weapon to reach the official through false ways because the result in the bailout box is what the electoral body will announce.

Next year's election would prove to be a herculean task as the country is riddled with insecurity and also one has to ensure the INEC is ready as this would be the seventh consecutive general election since Nigeria went back to democracy in 1999.
Insecurity will prove a difficult matter to solve since it seems most of the people in power are the perpetrators of this anomaly.

Just yesterday, the national security adviser to the president instructed the inspector general of police to direct each state's police commissioner to refrain from carrying out any executive orders issued by governors against opposition parties in their respective States. that governors are enacting laws to repress opposition parties in their states, and that police commissioners shouldn't be used as instruments for these laws. Additionally, any commissioners found complicit in the repression and intimidation of opposition parties by state governors will be dismissed.
It is documented that governors issue executive orders to stop opposition candidates from holding events or putting up campaign signs in their states. These directives are harmful to the voting process in Nigeria. Additionally, the police inspector general must take action to stop

As a colonized state I believe Nigeria politicians must have leant some of their political culture from their colonial master and going by that it then shows the the country Nigeria is not the only country with electoral violence issues except that the levels in which these violence takes place obviously differs and Nigeria is one country that's not in the highest peak of them all.

Each four years for election of political officers that electoral process tend to improve compared to the previous and this 2023 election is a prove to that assertion, there is greater political consciousness and involvement among the citizens like never before, Nigeria may not get it well now but gradually the violence level is diminishing by the day.

OP I hope you have your PVC cause it is a tool to peaceful elections as we all hope for.

actually not only in nigeria but in several countries that have very strong politics there will always be bloodshed in order to win a position or a seat of power. all of that because I think the basis of politics is about power struggles that make money and are willing to shed blood.
and to be honest I really hate politics that is unfair and only rely on power, control using money just for the sake of more money.
for me politics is a class of selfish community

It is the people who is not a politician or who have not occupy any political position that do see politics as in a meeting but a strong politicians who is well-known in the society to embrace each other in Nigeria whenever they see but in terms of castigation or carrying a negative information from one party to another for or from one person that I have a good reputation to another so that the condemnation of that person will lead the person not to achieve its goals or plan in the next election that is how the system of Nigeria elections work

Well, I think the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has given a hint that there are new technical ways implemented to ensure free and fair election this time due to how Nigerian youths have shown interest in the election, so I pray that this year's election will be a fear one without any violence throughout the electoral process. We hope for change in the electoral process due to the advent of technology.

Election in Nigeria will always be a period where citizens would be apathetic towards the electoral activities because despite the beautiful manifestos issued by these contesting candidates, you'd still notice that deep down what they are most concerned about is how they can move from one level of corruption to the other as soon as they win and enter power.

We are not strangers to the cases of violence during the election period as it only goes to show how these peeps can go to obvious lengths just to get a slice of the national cake.

Former Nigerian Head of State, Gen. Abdusalami Abubakar also believes that some electorates are to be blamed as they allow themselves be swayed by sweet talks and gifts, but hopes that the 2023 election coming up will be different. I hope so too.

Those who make enemies with their friends over politicians during elections are not smart because politicians are not worth fighting for. They have a common ground they agree on and that is how to loot the people's money. In Nigeria, the set of politicians we have are career politicians. They have no other trade or profession except to be in politics and steal public funds. This is why it is called a dirty game in Nigeria. In this coming election in 2023, we should not make it a do or die thing. Just be obidient and vote wisely.

Politicians in Nigeria are taking elections to be a do or die affair because that are corrupt people and are fighting for their personal interest,if they have good intention for the country, they will not make election a do or die affair since they will care more about the welfare of the people, instead of hiring thugs to kill people and steal ballot boxes.

Politicians sees their offices as an opportunity to syphon public funds for themselves and their families instead of seeing the office as a medium to reach out to the people's needs and welfare. I will say that Nigeria Politicians are thieves in disguise and not politicians. This is known as abuse of power because Nigeria Politicians placed themselves above the law because the Judiciary is in their palm.

Nigerian politicians are the most desperate in the entire world because they can do anything to grab power. The reason for this is because the country lacks strong institutions that ensures that the constitution of the country is upheld. Elected political officeholders become emperors and despots because they are not checked by any institution. The legislature, executive and judiciary connive to loot the treasury of the country without any form of obstruction. The lucrativeness of these political officers now make politicians to do everything including instigating ethnic and religious crisis to win elections. They sponsor thugs that hijack ballot box or attack electoral officials because they want to win elections. Opposition or political opponents are intimidated and sometimes killed because they want to be silenced.

Until politically offices in Nigeria ceases to becomes an avenue to become stupendously rich, electoral violence would not stop. If political office holders are persecuted and punished for the crime they committed during and after election, other would take note. The public especially the youth must also know that these politicians would never use their children to carryout these electoral crime because they know how risky it is. We must also take note that these politicians will also want the masses to be poor so that they can be easily used for these risky and violent electoral crimes.

Nigeria's viewpoint on the election is distinct from others'. because in Nigeria politics is regarded as a career. Politicians purchase high-tech weapons for young people running in elections, but they have trouble getting the weapons back from them afterward. resulting in a crisis after the election. Politicians are already recruiting lads to help them in their campaign for office in the upcoming 2023 election. The new electoral statute, which prevents manipulation and lessens electoral violence, was signed by Mr. President Buhari, which is wonderful news this time around. because the results of the election will be broadcast digitally.

Nigeria is one of the countries that make election period a time to have enemity all over because they believe election can never be free and fair, and therefore, blood must be shed to get into certain political positions. It has been the way they operate,so the 2023 election is already giving heat about what will come.
