I dont really know much about ubunti but i`m sure the problem is the difference between the versions of the electrum.

As far as I know pre 2.0 wallets are not compatible with post 2.0, but there are some tutorials over here how you can convert them to post 2.0.

Have you tried entering the seed in the new electrum by importing it?

here is the story
I fired up electrum as usual to send bitcoins to another address, it all happened smoothly, entered the address, the fee and the amount then verified it and sent it. My bitcoins balance was still intact

So I wanted to make a watching only wallet on my other PC  that was a fresh install of ubuntu (also ubuntu 14.04 64bit) so I copied the master public key and put it on a flash drive in a text file for later.

I then opened the new install of electrum on the new install of ubuntu (the 64bit one) and it shows me that the wallet is empty as a watching only wallet. So I set up a new wallet using the original seed that i backed up when i first setup electrum on the 32 bit ubuntu and it also shows the same.

I went back to the 32 bit PC and tried to open electrum and now it wont open, it just sits there.

NB
The first version of electrum was 1.9.7 and that was the seed i backed up. I then upgraded that 1.9.7 to 2.6.4. I fear version 1 seeds are not compatible with version 2 seeds, I dont know. Huh Huh

So is there a way to open up 2.6.4 on the 32 bit ubuntu? Im a total noob so please explain it like im 5
