Always amazes me how people rather spend the time to go to a forum, find the right thread, type up a question and then wait hours for a reply ... rather spend a few seconds to just look in the most obvious place, like "Settings".

how to change from standart to 2fa?
You will have to create a new wallet, select "Two Factor Authentication"... then read all the information about how it works, and how much it costs! 2FA is NOT a free service... more info here: https://api.trustedcoin.com/#/electrum-help

Im using electrum 2.8.3.

Does this need to be downloaded before the bitcoin fork?

you don't have to do it before the fork but it's a good idea to keep up with updates because they include new features and bug fixes.

I have electrum portable version but never used it to deposit coins.
I have the seed and password but I want to have a fresh one.
How can I completely remove it and get a new seed?

Also, if I deposit coins to portable electrum will they be safe after SegWit etc ?
Will I need to do anything other than just sending the coins and setup a password?

Thanks

your wallet file should be in the same folder as the portable executable file. move, rename or delete it. then run electrum portable again and it'll show the new wallet creation wizard.

your coins will be safe in electrum even after segwit activation. you don't have to do anything other than noting down the new seed. setting a password is good too.

Thanks mate.
There is a folder "electrum_data" I moved it and it asked me for a new seed.

Thank you again!!!

Release Notes:

# Release 2.9 - Independence (July 27th, 2017)
  * Multibit support: If the user enters a BIP39 seed (or uses a
hardware wallet), the full derivation path is configurable in the
    install wizard.
THAT is easily the best thing you've done with this release... that is going to save a LOT of people a LOT of frustration... I've been helping a lot of people recently with the dreaded "Password did not unlock the wallet" error with MultiBit HD...

Until now, the only compatible wallets were "Breadwallet" and "Simple Bitcoin Wallet" (both wallets for mobile phones!!)... However, this feature is going to make it stupidly easy for them to regain access to their coins (and get introduced to the awesomeness that is Electrum) in one easy step! Smiley

You've said in the past that bip39 support in electrum could not be guaranteed. I thought that meant it was a deprecated feature. Yet here you've added support for custom derivation paths when using bip39 seed mnemonics so does that mean that bip39 support will not be dropped in future?

Man this code is looking slick.  The "send only confirmed coins" might save a few folks.

Preferences -- > Transactions -- > send only confirmed coins "checked".  Nice!

Release Notes:

# Release 2.9 - Independence (July 27th, 2017)
  * Multiple Chain Validation: Electrum will download and validate
block headers sent by servers that may follow different branches
of a fork in the Bitcoin blockchain. Instead of a linear sequence,
block headers are organized in a tree structure. Branching points
are located efficiently using binary search. The purpose of MCV is
to detect and handle blockchain forks that are invisible to the
    classical SPV model.
  * The desired branch of a blockchain fork can be selected using the
network dialog. Branches are identified by the hash and height of
the diverging block. Coin splitting is possible using RBF
transaction (a tutorial will be added).
  * Multibit support: If the user enters a BIP39 seed (or uses a
hardware wallet), the full derivation path is configurable in the
    install wizard.
  * Option to send only confirmed coins
  * Qt GUI:
    - Network dialog uses tabs and gets updated by network events.
    - The gui tabs use icons
  * Kivy GUI:
    - separation between network dialog and wallet settings dialog.
    - option for manual server entry
    - proxy configuration
  * Daemon: The wallet password can be passed as parameter to the
    JSONRPC API.
  * Various other bugfixes and improvements.
