you should create a bookmark to the electrum site and use that every time. it's not safe to rely on google.

also www or no www doesn't make a difference. both point to the same server:

Since you know already that older Electrum versions had fake ads that informed users to download a newer version you shouldn't blindly trust everything you see in your Electrum wallet. This is no longer the case but in the future hackers might find other ways to try and get to your funds which may or may not include notifications or other tricks to get you to download their fake software.
ALWAYS make sure to check the official Electrum website if there is a newer version of the wallet and download it ONLY from there.

If you want to be notified of new updates, click yes. Otherwise, no.

All it does is warn you when there is a update. It doesn’t download automatically. You will always need to go to ELECTRUM.ORG to download it.

For me, much better to choose No so that no popup will show when latest electrum release because the old phishing attack is always showing on the popup screen in Electrum wallet so that I just want it to avoid. If the Electrum releases a new version you must go directly to their electrum correct URL.

Also, you must learn how to verify the Electrum if it's legit or not.

That’s irrelevant.

Electrum will always have the green lock and the certification next to their URL, but this isn’t exclusivity of it. Anyone can get a green lock (even phishing websites). So, if it doesn’t have one, it’s not Electrum. But if it does, it CAN be Electrum. Or maybe it’s just a phishing website. Just don’t count with it.

The cookies are something related to your browser. Don’t worry about this.

Again: the only thing that matters checking letter by letter the URL.

Hi thanks. One last question before i do this.

When i type electrum on google and then first link that shows up and i click on it

I notice in the view site information right to the left of the address bar of the website, it shows certification valid. And cookies it shows 3 in use.

But when i manually type in https://electrum.org and it goes to the same website, it shows certification valid. And cookies shows 0 in use.

I assume this is nothing to be worried of?

So basically just type it in

Correct? Sorry for asking this few times. I just want to be extremely careful with this as you said google doesn't always display the correct site and i thought its strange when i click it... the lock bar to the left of the site when you click on it and view site information it shows 3 cookies in use as oppose to myself typing it manually showing 0 cookies in use...

Just go to the Download page and download the version you want (Standalone is a single EXE and Installer is exactly what the name says).

Yes. The above is correct. But you can’t blindly trust Google (they allow ads from phishing websites). THE FIRST RESULT ISN’T NECESSARILY THE CORRECT EVERYTIME.

Bookmark it and make sure to always double check it before downloading anything.

While it shows synchronizing, it does show my current btc balance in electrum. Right now i want to send the btc from it to my nano ledger s. Then claim my bitcoin cash and then bitcoin gold.

So now i should go to

www.electrum.org

Is that correct? I want to type it out myself on the webpage.

When i type it on google, first link that shows up is

So if i type the bolded one a bit above, that is fine? If i click on the link above, that is fine? I want to make sure im going to the correct site.

I have some btc in my electrum but most of it has already been sent to my nano ledger s. I have not used the electrum in a while.

I opened electrum recently and after typing in my password, it shows its synchronizing and taking a long time and nothing happens.

Am i suppose to go to electrum site and install the newest version? Then once i do that, then it will work? I want to send the remaining btc i have left in electrum to my nano ledger s.

Then once i do this, i will claim by btc cash by downloading electroncash.

Then i will claim my bitcoin gold.

Can someone tell me what steps i have to do now since my electrum 3.0.5 shows synchronizing? I know you have to make sure you download the legit electrum.

I just closed electrum 3.0.5 right now.

What is my next step?
