testnet bitcoins are not real bitcoins btw. you may be the victim of a scam.

you shouldn't be installing plugins from random sources either.

Also, if you want to open your old wallet you must use the open button or use the new/restore button from electrum.

Click open and then locate your old wallet.dat now it should work.

I did all that and have it in installed in Programs (x86) but I still get the error message when I try to open my old wallet:

"cannot load wallet the addresses in this wallet are not bitcoin addresses"

also get that when I try load backup wallet.

Thank you everyone.. I would like to keep working one this till resolved . I have done everything all have suggested.

What kind of electrum did you download?  I guess you download the standalone am I right?
You must download the windows installer and install it so that it will create a folder in program files(x86) and wallet data in %appdata%/roaming.

If you use the standalone it extracts the electrum files in %temp% folder every time you run it while the windows installer will create a shortcut and extract files in the program files folder.
For the portable version, it will extract the files in the same directory or folder.

Also, if you want to open your old wallet you must use the open button or use the new/restore button from electrum.

I tried to check my wallet plugin folder and I found it in this path C:\Program Files\Electrum\electrum\plugins
So you can't find the plugin folder in user/username/AppData/roaming or even in the temp folder, the temp folder is used only for temporarily write data comes from the running software/app that is why it always created new data folder every time you open the electrum.

This is the right path C:\Program Files\Electrum\electrum\plugins

I guess I was not clear with my original message but the problem was that folder did not exist. Each time I opened Electrum it would create a new folder in that temp area that was like it was suppose to be in Program Files. I did a search and only folders with electrum with all the files only exist when I open electrum and it creates it in the appdata/temp file. None in Program files. I have since installed it again but it created the new folder in Program File (x86) folder. But will not let me open old wallet as explain in previous message.

As far as I know you can keep the default path also you can change the path too while installing Electrum. Not sure which plugin you are playing with.

So I downloaded the version again off https://electrum.org/#download and reinstalled it and it created Electrum Testnet folder and I open it works fine but when I try to open my old wallet on this new installation I get this message:

"cannot load wallet the addresses in this wallet are not bitcoin addresses"

But I can still open that wallet using my desktop icon for that wallet.
I have 2 Electrums installed now. The new one I was able to put in that plugin.
So why cannot the new installation of Electrum open my old wallet?

I've been using Electrum for a while but I am by no means an expert. So I wanted to use this plugin created by someone for use with multi-sig.
However I cannot put the plugin script where it belongs because I found out each time I open Electrum it creates a whole new folder to run everything in
user/username/AppData/local/temp/(some new folder each time)
So that is where the plugin goes in the plugin folder but I think you have to restart Electrum for new plugins.
Is there a way to reinstall Electrum where it uses the same folder for its files or a way to make it do that now with my current wallet?
Thank you.

For multi-sig, Electrum has some default plugins, you can use them.
