That's great... For you. However, doing so if you use Electrum with "Whonix" (a privacy-centric Linux distro) bypasses the "Stream Isolation" feature of Whonix. As per the guide that the OP linked, you need to manually specify a SOCKS server to ensure that the Stream Isolation is functioning correctly and that your privacy/anonymity is not being compromised.

I suspect that the guide was written in this way to prevent Electrum from automatically connecting to a server BEFORE you have setup the Proxy correctly to avoid any accidental info leakage/privacy loss.

What honestly your problem all about? Automatically to choose server is fine with me, you can only do this when your electrum wallet couldn't connect to the server and becareful of following any guides outside on this forum and electrum.org site because there are many fake electrum wallet out there.

Yes. Thats what it says in the guide you have linked.

Make sure you are installing the latest version of electrum. I am not sure how frequently these package lists are being updated properly.
The current version is 3.1.3 and can be downloaded here.

Hi!

I have installed Electrum in Whonix via https://www.whonix.org/wiki/Money#Electrum

In the instructions it says:

"After wallet creation is complete and Electrum asks you "How do you want to connect to a server", choose "Select server manually" and press .
Now re-enable the "Select server automatically" check-box and change the Proxy setting to SOCKS5 with host: 10.152.152.10 and port: 9111. Press and you should be good to go.

If you already have Electrum set up but forgot to enable Stream Isolation, you can always go to Tools -> Network in Electrum to bring up the server and proxy settings."

I choosed select server manually and changed the proxy, host, and port settings. Im unsure of one thing. They write "Now re-enable the Select server automatically check box..." My english is not perfect and im not really sure, should i check the box "Select server automatically" when i have manually changed Proxy, host and port?
