Also be careful with virus like clipboard virus, where it can replace your copied BTC address to the attacker address. It aims to send your Bitcoin to their address if you're not aware. Always double check your pasted address and also make sure you that you use the correct wallet.

Also make sure that you always verify the signatures of the Electrum wallet you downloaded to make sure they belong to the genuine owner.

In order to be able to verify GPG signatures, you need to import the public key of the signer. Electrum binaries are signed with ThomasV's public key. On Linux, you can import that key using the following command: gpg --import ThomasV.asc. Here are tutorials for Windows and MacOS. When you import a key, you should check its fingerprint using independent sources, such as here, or use the Web of Trust.

There are many Electrum users affected with this phishing exploit until now those Electrum user's who use an old version of Electrum will suffer from this update without asking here or in electrum.org support.

I think OP doesn't need to reinstall a new fresh OS just uninstall the Electrum and go to C:\Users\admin\AppData\Roaming then find the electrum folder and delete them all after than goto C:\Program Files and find electrum folder again and delete them all.

Or if you want to delete all every trace of electrum wallet you need to use Iobit Advanced Uninstaller.
So that you can fully uninstall and remove all electrum files and traces including traces on regedit.

Now, you can install the new electrum wallet. Just make sure that you download the electrum directly from the official website here https://electrum.org/#download

The message was fake. It was an exploit (fixed in the latest version), where hackers could show fake update messages for those connected to their servers. Unfortunately, your coins are gone.

You can read more about it here: Electrum vulnerability allows arbitrary messages, phishing

You should do a clean reinstall of your OS and create a brand new wallet, as your computer may be infected with malware. NEVER download Electrum from a website that is not ELECTRUM.ORG; That's the ONLY official website.

So this is very frustrating. I fired up electrum and hit send max on a decent amount of money to the address i wanted to send to.

After hitting send i got some pop upsaying i had to update electrum. I did and now there's only 1 output on the transaction (2 confirmations) and it isn't  the address i sent to and that address doesnt' show any incoming coin (it's an exchange address like coinbase and shows no receipt)

Am i screwed? i usually expect to see two outputs from a transaction Sad
