Tools -> Preferences -> General

Change the "Base Unit" and "zeros after decimal point" like this:

It will avoid this confusion between mBTC and BTC in the future!

I solved the problem by installing the Electrum app on my phone and then scanning the QR code. Worked first time. Thank you all
You still didn't solve the problem in your desktop client as the base unit there is still set at mbtc when it should be btc. The next time you want to use your desktop client you are going to run into the same problems. Just change the base unit to BTC and after that you can consider this problem solved.

You don't really have to do it imo. Changing the units on Electrum (PC) should work too. But anyway, congrats.

Sorry, the amount is actually .0035BTC, not .0035mBTC. Should Electrum be okay to send that amount?

Definitely, yes.

It won't. It just gives me the message "The server returned an error when broadcasting the transaction.
Consider trying to connect to a different server, or updating Electrum.
Transaction could not be broadcast due to dust outputs."

Did you change the base unit to BTC ?
0.0035 BTC = 3.5mBTC. Did you enter it correctly based on the units you are using ?

Is there a minimum amount that Electrum will send and maybe .0035BTC is below the minimum?

There is a minimum which needs to be sent in order to be relayed by nodes.
But 0.0035 BTC is definitely way above this minimum.

I am pretty sure that what Abdussamad said is correct. No seller would ask for a 0.0035mbtc payment when such a transaction would not be accepted by any node. If you want share the link what you are trying to buy here and let us have a look at it. Or make a screenshot if you want it to stay private and let us see the correct price of the item.

I want to buy something from another country. The price they want is 0.0035mBTC. Is there no wallet that will send that amount then?
It looks like you are trying to send with a low amount check carefully on the site where you are planning to buy and pay that amount and maybe it is not mBTC. If it is mBTC maybe it's a different network they are using a lightning network that is why they can accept this small amount.

Can you tell us the place or website where you are planning to buy something? so that we can check if maybe they are using a lightning network that is why they accept dust transaction.

As you were told on reddit you are confusing btc with mbtc. 0.0035mbtc is like 3 US cents worth of bitcoin. That's not worth anything in any country in the world.

To change your unit of account to btc go to tools > preferences > general tab > base unit.

I wonder what kind of product is worth 350 satoshis?

Are you sure they asked for .0035mBTC and not .0035BTC instead?

The problem isn't the wallet, but the "Bitcoin network" (or better, the consensus between the nodes). $0.03 doesn't even cover the fees, so nodes aren't going to propagate it. Buy more stuff from the website or use another payment option.

No it's not that. I'm not using version 2.3.2. I'm using the latest version which is 3.3.8. I tried installing version 2.3.2 as somebody said electrum will not send very small amounts (0.0035mBTC). I hoped the portable electrum (version 2.3.2) might let me send smaller amounts. However, I have not used it as I have no bitcoin in it. Can anyone direct me to a wallet that lets you send small amounts like the amount I mentioned above. Can you also tell me how to get my bitcoin out of Electrum and into another desktop wallet that will let me send small amounts?
I'm using the latest version of electrum (version 3.3.Cool and it will not let me send as the amount is too small.
Oh I see the mBTC unit now. That's 0.00000350 BTC (350 satoshis) which is a crazy low amount. This is also called "dust" and most nodes aren't going to accept these (also, you are most likely going to pay more in fees than the total amount). Is this really worth the hassle? (~3 cents).

(version 2.3.2)

That's your problem right there.  Electrum versions older than 3.3.3 will no longer connect to the network of servers to prevent phishing and malware.  Like Ninja said, you'll need the most recent version.

Make sure to download only from the official Electrum site: https://electrum.org/#download
And verify the download.

You are extremely outdated.

Go to Electrum.org and download the latest version. Make sure you are on ELECTRUM.ORG (the ONLY legit website to download Electrum). Anything else is a scam.

I also recommend that you verify your Electrum file signature before doing anything: https://bitcoinelectrum.com/how-to-verify-your-electrum-download/

Hi all. Please help me if you can.

I'm completely new to this and have been trying without success to send 0.0035mBTC to someone.
I constantly get the message "The server returned an error when broadcasting the transaction.
Consider trying to connect to a different server, or updating Electrum.
Transaction could not be broadcast due to dust outputs."

I tried installing the portable electrum (version 2.3.2) but can't work out how to transfer my bitcoin from the original electrum to the portable one to try sending from that. I have been trying to get this sorted for quite a while and it's driving me up the wall.
Any suggestions as to how to solve this would be most welcome.
