I have not seen a 'portable electrum version' ?
Just go to https://electrum.org/#download and choose "Portable Version" from the list of downloads. It's only available for Windows.
Direct link: https://download.electrum.org/2.8.3/electrum-2.8.3-portable.exe

OK, then just install that on a pen drive that i will have plug in every time i want to use electrum ?

Yeah, if you follow the above, you would be using the pen drive as your hard drive and all Electrum's data would be on that hard drive.

I do recommend that you test your other hard drive for issues. Using something like Crystal Disk Info to check the Smart Data and look for possible signs of failure. Additionally, you should run a Windows sfc scan on the drive to detect/fix possible errors.

Thanks, i have recovered the wallet on my normal HDD for now, will start a check tonight as i suspect it would take a while...Its split into 2 partitions 160 Gb each.

Never heard of Crystal disk or Windows sfc, but will have a google...

I have NEVER defragged it in years either, so that mat help.

Cheers for help.

Just as an extra note. If it is a problem with the hard drive, then it's probably helpful to backup the data file every few days just to ensure that you can still access the coins if the drive ever fails or your file is lost.

I presumed that was the purpose of having a seed recovery ? I used to back up the whole wallet folder routinely but was told it was pointless with seed recovery

Yeah, as long as you have your seed, you should always be able recover your wallet so there really isn't the need to backup the wallet files.

It can't hurt to back it up though if the seed recovery does work (and I'm not convinced it does based on my previous attempts - although those were cross-platform so it might be able to recover it).

So are you stating just putting the wallet file on a usb pen and direct it there to open ?

My ONLY option at the moment is now to uninstall Electrum and recover from seed (yet again).

I have not seen a 'portable electrum version' ?

So if i get that i install it on a pen drive and that would basically be my hard drive ?

Cheers

Hi All

This is starting to annoy me and worry me....

EVERY couple weeks or one week Electrum does not accept my password which is 100% entered correctly and i just use one wallet, the default one in the correct directory.

Any idea why this is happening...

I keep having to use my seed all the time to recover my wallet Huh

Anyone help  know why this is happening ?

Last time i logged in was yesterday and can not today ??

Cheers

Probably a hard drive issue although it does remember the text file but cannot decode the seed from the password as far as you susggest.
Try putting a copy of the portable electrum version and the data files on anotherstorage device (such as an sd card or pen drive) and see if you have toput in the password less frequently.
