Announcing MyEtherWallet v3.24.00: Difficulty Bomb&Updating blockchain

Due to the complexity of the Bomb and the increased risk of hacking, we pushed a rather drastic update that implements a number of changes and improvements, including enhancement of efficiency and scalability of the blockchain, acceleration of transaction speed, and additional security in the form new formats private keys which will help protect users against hacking.
If you are using private key or UTC, then you need to go into the wallet and update manually, otherwise they risk being unprotected.

How do i update my Ethereum wallet?

1. Go to our website MyEtherWallet.com
2. Unlock your wallet using your Keystore File (UTC / JSON) or simply use your private key.
3. Click Unlock and wait for the update.

Please note that you need to manually update your wallet, failure to do so may result in funds being lost.

We are taking these measures to protect both you and our network from phishing and malicious attacks.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding!
MyEtherWallet Security Team.

If you use other methods, then ignore this message.

I know, I only use this computer for small transactions of less than 100 dollars, I have another laptop with windows 10 for more security.
Then, either use Electrum 3.0 (which AFAIK it's the latest version that supports Vista - still not recommended) or update it to Windows 10.

Alright thanks.

windows vista
Well, that's the issue. Vista isn't supported anymore.

Honestly, why are you still that outdated? Microsoft stopped supporting Vista more than 1 year ago. Which means that you will not receive new security updates or get any support for most softwares. You shouldn't be storing Bitcoins in a OS that no longer receives security updates. Just update to Windows 10.

Available platform plugins are minimal, offscreen, windows

reinstalling the application may fix the problem

How to I go about upgrading it and importing my old wallet?
Which OS are you using? Just install the latest version.

- If you are on Windows, just download the latest file on the website[1] and run it.

- If you are on Linux, run the commands mentioned in the website:
Code:
sudo apt-get install python3-setuptools python3-pyqt5 python3-pip
sudo pip3 install https://download.electrum.org/3.2.2/Electrum-3.2.2.tar.gz

P.S: You should always have your seed backed up (even before upgrading Electrum). So if you don't, just do it right now.

Why are you using an outdated version? Electrum had some major vulnerabilities that have been fixed recently. Besides the synchronizing issues that tend to happen in the 2.x.x versions.

Please upgrade your Electrum wallet to the latest version ASAP: https://electrum.org/#download
