Thanks.

Do i click on standalone executable or windows installer when downloading on the windows version?

If you were a new user I'd suggest that you always use the installer. But you are not. What did you use when you installed electrum before? Download the same one again. If you don't remember then see if you have shortcuts to electrum in your start menu. The installer creates those while the standalone executable does not.

Hi there.  Im still using electrum 2.7.8.

Where do i upgrade to the new version?  When was the new version released?

You can download the new version at https://electrum.org/#download

Im curious but do most people do what im asking about?  Such as you need to put a password before you can open electrum to see your balance etc?

When i click on wallet, then password, it ask for my current password, password and confirm password.

So my current password is the password that i use before i send my bitcoin right?  Because when i send bitcoin, it ask me to enter a password.  But you mention the seed dialogue?  Im confused here because isn't that the 12 word recovery phrase?

Are you using the new electrum version or the version im using?  Because all i see is current password, password and confirm password.

So for password and confirm password, im suppose to put a new password?  So that means i essentially will have 2 passwords for electrum?  My current one for sending btc and another one just for opening my electrum wallet?  Or are both those passwords going to be the same?

Also if i do any mistake with this, as long as i have the 12 word recovery phrase, then any error i make here doesn't matter right?

You should first download and install version 2.8.3 of Electrum which supports the encryption method. Then you just need to change the password via the Menu option. Be sure to select the Encrypt wallet option. You can leave the password the same during this process and then you will have both the encryption and sending passwords as the same password. It will prompt you for this password when you open Electrum.

The Wallet -> Password box should look something like this if you have an unencrypted wallet:

You can. You have to encrypt the wallet file with the seed dialog. To do so, go to Electrum and go to Wallet and click Password.

Key in a password and check "Encrypt Wallet File". Whenever you start Electrum, you have to key in your password to see the wallet information.

Make sure you are running a recent version of Electrum as well as the encrypt feature was added in version 2.8.0

I use electrum wallet to send/receive bitcoin.  I would like to know... is there a way to open electrum up where you have to put a password on it first before you can go into electrum?  For example when you turn on the laptop, then click on electrum wallet, well your electrum wallet and all your details show up.  I like to know is there a way to put a password on it before it opens up electrum?  For example say you are on your computer but leave it unattended for a bit.  Or say someone is using your computer to do something.  But if they click on electrum wallet, well it shows how much btc you have etc.  Thanks.
