The problem was only temporary.  Seems just fine now.  I guess some of the servers might have trouble keeping up with the block chain.  I know I gave up trying for that reason.

Hello, I am trying Electrum on a machine that never had it.  I unzipped the archive and dropped it into
C:\Program Files and then created a shortcut to the Python file.  Electrum 1.8 started up and gave me an option to import a private key or create a new one.  I chose the option to create a new wallet.  Since then "Electrum 1.8" always says "Connecting..."  I am trying various servers but with no result.  This worries me.  Shocked

I am using Electrum with the same computer I am browsing with now using Windows.  I use 1.7.* on my other machine and well, it's less portable and there is no connection there.

P.S. :  I switch the server to btcback.com using tcp on the standard port and though it initially displayed 'connecting', when I restarted Electrum it displayed 'synchronizing'.  Does that mean the server is synchronizing?  It's been like this for minutes now. Cry
