use cointape.com to find the ideal fee to set.

The default fee in electrum should be 0.0005 btc per kb. You will need to subtract that amount from the amount you want to send.

I have a couple of BTC in  my wallet.  I want to empty the wallet completely by sending the total amount.  the wallet informs me that there is not enough funds because of the transaction fee.

How do i send all the BTC in a wallet and automatically deduct the appropriate fee?

This seems pretty basic, am i missing something?
Thanks

What is the balance of the wallet?

You can set the fee manually in Electrum. Make use of this site to check what the ideal fee is and try and set it as low as possible.

Once set, in the amount to be sent field type !, that will enter the max minus the set fee.

If you still cannot send the amount it is most probably too small, you will then have to send some btc to that wallet in order to cover the fee/increase the balance. If you cannot do that then go do some faucets, you will not have to do many in order to get enough into the wallet so that its enough to cover the fee.
