Yeah he deserves it. Think of all the cool things he has done and the investments he has made. Elon also almost went bankrupt trying to make this all work so good on the man!!

I join in the congratulations. This person is not sitting idle and always promoting new technologies to the masses and allows his engineers to advance these same technologies forward.

elon musks business plan is not to be the astronaut or taxi driver or the gold miner.
his business plan is to be the vehicle/pickaxes salesmen where the taxi service/drill team buy/lease from him
in the wildwest. gold miners themselves didnt always make profit. but those selling the dynamite/pickaxes and the bed and breakfast saloons did.
bitcoin mining is the same. selling ASICS is guaranteed profit as your price does not fluctuate depending on bitcoin price. you set your product price where you want it. and people by it.

same with rare mineral mining in space. elon wont be the guy in space drilling. he will let 3M/BHP do the physical mining. and they lease the transport/rigs from him
same with boring and hyperloop ideas. he doesnt want to be the train driver. thats for Amtrak, he will just lease the tunnels to amtrek
if he can tunnel underground to avoid land purchase costs. he can make alot of money just leasing the tunnel

As for "rare" metals, of course we do, we are using them in things like cellphones and what not. It just happens there is a bit of a monopoly of them to certain countries. Getting more from space, will of course lower the price on them as well.

Bezos is, not wrong. But his idea won't be realized in his lifetime. Of course humanity should also think of building space colonies, but that will occur after the earlier stage SpaceX is paving. To build those colonies you need resources, a LOT of resources, preferably extracted and refined in space itself.

And also there is debate going about space mining bubble bursts, we actually don't know the use case of those rare space metals until that the value of them will keep rising.if you ever watch TV shows like gold rush. that shows gold miners working day and night for a week. churning through so dozens of yards of dirt an hour. gallons of diesel an hour. all for just half a jam jar of gold.. you start to realise that if they can get a 'nugget'. the size of a soccerball for $1m they will make profit
so imagine filling the cargo hold of a space shuttle with multiple soccerball nuggets. and have it only cost a few $mill round trip. its easy money
