It looks like Elon Musk is the part that Bitcoin is missing and everyone is waiting for. See how quickly people were in a hurry to part with their bitcoins by sending them to the above-mentioned wallet. Imagine what would happen if Elon Musk wrote on his Twitter "Buy Bitcoin, I believed." And he will throw off a couple of screenshots from any exchange. This is to create an instant FOMO effect and then to the moon Grin.
Humans are so much greedy because those Twitter handles the hackers made  used where not Bitcoin fans; only some few ones. Personally I won't believe this tweet from Barak Obama because he's not among the bitcoiners but thousands quickly believed in these tweets. Let's not be greedy as hackers and scammers are mostly doublers.

Moreover, even after such hacks and deceiving people through the distribution of coins, hackers do not stop continuing to hack the YouTube channels of crypto enthusiasts.
As a result, people instantly forget about such a global hacking of Twitter, and continue to send money to YouTube hackers. It's incredible.

What's really surprising is that so famous and tech-savvy people like Musk, Gates and Bezos are not able to protect their twitter accounts. They look like silly newbies.

What nonsense. The hackers gained access not in a trivial way, but through Twitter's internal security service. The accounts of such public people are always reliably protected, this is obvious.

Big job for Twitter to protect big accounts. because this is the reputation stakes of twitter. especially if it is connected to crypto such as bitcoin. This is obviously very worrying because it can be used for criminal acts
It would be suspiciously strange if Elon Musk suddenly asked to drop a couple of bitcoins on his wallet)) Nevertheless, you should always put two-factor authentication and then your data will be reliably protected. But not a fact)

It turns out that bitcoin scammers have expanded to Twitter by hacking accounts of influencers who have high credibility and misusing the Twitter account. Of course, there are some people who will simply believe it, because this is a new model for the theft of money.

his account was also compromized? lol jesus whos account is safe in twitter?

Until now, there are still many cases of Twitter accounts being hacked, which means that all Twitter account owners cannot guarantee that the password is safe.
and it's not just twitter that's unsafe, even other social media isn't safe either

Its easy way to scam peoples twitter should care about it ..

They collected almost 13 bitcoins in a short time.
...

I didn't know what was the number of coins they get, but 13btc was cheap... and i mean it was cheap because a hack like that could cost us a World War. So, is good to know they handle the attack like noobs.

The real culprit behind this was  a 17 year old and his friends from Florida and now they the under custody of police. Grin Grin

Is hard to believe this... Would be nice if you could post the source for the next time.

Is the security of the account of someone who has grown up in that world still weak? I am also surprised by the number of hacks, especially those that are targeted are large exchanges. how can that easily happen they should provide a high level of security, in order to make it safe from hacking.

Do you realize that the hack occurred as a result of mistakes made by the Twitter employees? From what I have heard, some of the employees had their admin access compromised by the hackers. This allowed the criminals to reset the passwords for a large number of Twitter accounts, including those owned by people such as Elon Musk and Bill Gates. It is really unfair to blame Elon for the mistake of someone else.

I have two questions to ask:

1 = What does Elon Musk have to do with bitcoin?
2 = What does Twitter have to do with bitcoin?

Both can influence the demand due to the size of the scale that affects people and can add some kind of influence, but ultimately bitcoin has nothing to do with this story, it's the people who create this type of relationship.

Elon Musk and Twitter have not any relation with Bitcoin. A hacker hacked Elon Musk's Twitter account, I think he just wanted to fool people and extort money from them through Bitcoin. so, it is not the fault of Bitcoin, actually it is the fault of twitter's security. Twitter should tighten their security. on the other hand, we need to understand that Elon Musk will not ask for money from us under any circumstances. Finally, I would like to say, we need to be more careful in terms of payment and investment issue.

Twitter hacked events have been very viral on various social media, many talked about and become tranding topics. Because not only
Elon Musk whose Twitter account was hacked, many other famous peoples whose Twitter accounts were targeted by hackers. Like
Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos. This was done by hackers for widespread Bitcoin giveaway scams, and surprisingly proved successful in deceiving
hundreds of millions of dollars. Actually this incident if our vigilance is good, we can avoid the old methods of fraud like this.

You know that Donald trump had issues with Jack Dorsey over a threat Dorsey kicked against. These hackers are using bitcoin giveaway to scam people. what will be the new government regulation for social media and bitcoin. I pray US governement should not ban bitcoin.

Bitcoin has nothing to do with Twitter being hacked. They're not that stupid to use it as an excuse for doing something to BTC

Tweet removed.  But it was definitely from his account.  I blocked the wallet to prevent anyone silly enough to think he'd actually do anything like it.

Quite the high profile account to get hacked though.

I heard about this news about twitter hacking, it was very unexpected for this great platform to be hacked by black hat hackers. The worst aspect of the hack is that they are focusing on influential people's accounts. My concern is the hackers are using bitcoin as the object of the hack. how will the governement react to this?

This should give Jack a hell of concern. If hackers and scammers can easily log into his company and gain access to various high profile handles, then it's a thing of security breach and concern. Again, I am more concerned for the deluded minds who fell prey to the antics of the scammers by believing there's any free money anywhere online. Who does a giveaway by asking you to send them money first? This isn't the last of this type of scam. Next will be something like Carlos Slim or Trump asking people to send them ETH so they could send them back ETH and Bitcoin together. Greedy people are always gullible.

It was Twitter's negligence and about the tweet no generous people will ask to send first before they send their giveaway, this has been going for several months now if there are still falling for this, then it's their fault anymore, there are so many warning prior to this, they just need to do research.

If I am not wrong, the criminals managed to steal only a small amount of money (~$100,000). This looks minuscule, when compared to the amount which is lost annually to exchange hacks. For example, there were 12 major exchange hacks in 2019 (and many minor ones), which resulted in losses in excess of $300 million. You can't even compare it with other crypto scams such as Onecoin and PlusToken, when billions of USD were stolen.

I think Twitter got hacked. Theres so many more people that posted this. Apple, Bezos, Elon, Biden, Coinbase... the list goes on. The scary thing is, this could have been used to do massive damage.
They tried to do massive damage with these accounts but failed to do so because people are more aware nowadays so only a minor amount of people did actually sent their bitcoins to that wallet hoping they would be getting double money in return, but actually we all knew that it was a scam right from the start.

And twitter already recognizes their mistake and made a post about it. The vector of the attack was some twitter employers, they got hacked by social engineering and after that all the accounts was vulnerable.

Will be hard to see an attack like this again. For sure they will do something about the security to avoid it.
As the attack was a social engineering attack so we can see this type of attack again in the future, employees are people only who can easily be fooled by social engineering attacks and falls in the trap of hacker, no matter how much secure your firewall is, if someone inside it opens a door to attacker then he can do a lot of damage once he is inside the system. Although most employees also get this type of training in tech firms to recognise a social engineering attack and also to tackle it.

It's really shocking what happened. Elon Musk, Kim Kardashian West, Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, Barack Obama, Wiz Khalifa, Warren Buffett, Apple, Uber and other 120 famous accounts with millions of followers. I haven't checked how much money hackers got, but I imagine it's huge money. We often talking about how important to protect your accounts - use proper password, 2FA, don't fall into phishing scams. But c'mon, I'm sure that Gates or Musk knew how to protect their events. But even they weren't able to defend from hackers...

“This is massive,” said cybersecurity expert Rachel Tobac, the CEO of SocialProof Security. “This is most likely the largest attack I’ve ever seen. We are extremely lucky that these attackers are monetarily motivated and not sowing mass chaos all over the world.”
I found the quote in the washingtonpost
https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2020/07/15/musk-gates-twitter-hack/

Impressive for everyone and alarming what that security expert says. After seeing this we are vulnerable, we need more secure applications on the internet.

Sure mate, the damage has been done and the hackers has already moved the coins to mixers for cashout. This will portray bitcoin in a bad image in time to come even though not now. Those flowers of the affected Twitter handlers, would now see Bitcoin as a criminal digital currency and will be afraid to venture into it. Twitter should be blame for this, because they were not able to secure users data properly.

I can really sense something different from what many have been saying regard to this Twitter hack. Believe me or not, this has to do with the government involvement and not just an individual or cooperate hacking. Maybe the government wanted to know some secrets about some Twitter handlers or their intentions to bring bad name to cryptocurrency and Bitcoin most importantly. Though, Justin Sun had already place a $1m bounty on those hackers information which is a good development in such time like this.

Unknown attackers hacked Twitter accounts of Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, and many others. On the pages of hacked celebrity accounts, were posted messages about the fake distribution of 5000 BTC from an unknown site Cryptoforhealth.

It is already known that attackers who managed to gain access to the accounts of many celebrities on Twitter transferred the received funds to a separate address.

You can read more in "Twitter hackers used BitPay and Coinbase to transfer funds".

Nowadays scammers are increasingly brave to hack Twitter accounts of famous people, before that popular exchanges accounts are hacked too.
Famous people have many followers, so scammers use it to commit fraud. Such as offering opportunities to get money instantly and also various
kinds of give away it does not make sense. So be careful when looking at accounts of famous people offering something that does not make sense.
It's better not to be easy to believe, next don't click on website addresses that we don't know about. Most likely it's a phishing attack.

I think Hacker has hacked Twitter system because I have seen the message in Twitter support page and Some big twitter page such as Apple,Elon mask,Bill gates,Binance etc.Because of that Bitcoin has received a lot of negative promotion.Somewhere I have heard that From Alon mask and Bill gates account hacker has received 59000$ in just a couple of hours.People get greedy very fast. They don't try to understand they just want profit.Thats why many people send their hard working money Btc  to double it very fast. Please avoid from such scam. Please research before trying to do this thing.

Btw many exchange account has also hacked such as Binance ,Gemini,Kucoin,Coinbase erc.

It is not just Elon musk , it's also Joe Biden and other famous high profile celebrities. But I do think people should have already recognized this , this is practically impossible to actually begin with , if they keep doubling up the money of the people like this , they are very successful businessman and they did not reach there by doing this.

The problem is not with the Bitcoins or cryptocurrencies ! Problem is with Twitter ! The sole reason this scam was successful in the first place is the fault of Twitter .

Plus the scammers were able to accumulate actually a lot of money through this but one should understand that If something is so good to be true it's truly a scam! The only reason why these scams propel and accumulate anything is because of *greed* , we should learn few things here:

1. Don't be greedy and work hard to earn your own money
2. Educate yourself about scams like these
3. If something is so good to be true it's definitely fishy
4. Don't trust anything even if it's from the Twitter of some known celebrity ! Send money to someone you don't know personally only after thorough research.
5. Don't place your bets on the social media
6. Since hackers are able to pull things like this , This really shows us how we need to actually learn about ethical hacking early on so that we can tackle it safely , employee people who are familiar with this stuff , degree doesn't matter !

People who got scam by tweets like this are not being careful, aside from greed also being desperate push them to participate.

they actually believe on it instantly because the tweet came from thier idols and its a verified account ,
If these people are going to give, they will do it on charities not just giving crypto on strangers in the internet, and followers should know this my god. I can't believe that there are still people who believes on this crap, doubler? an old piece of cake left on the table. Didn't they think that those accounts were hacked? I never imagine Joe Biden, although he is a pro-bitcoiner, tweeting a stuff like that, I mean we can easily detect if those were legit. In the first place, it was on twitter, so what's new about it?

Not just Elon Musk, all of those major investors and US figures are also been hacked.

Hackers that made this act is kinda brilliant, they attacked those employees who have access to internal data and security. That's why they make the scam possible in the internet world.
I also think that they did not write Tweets from random accounts but were choosing the verified accounts of famous people who are pro-Bitcoin, potentially pro-Bitcoin or neutral. I haven't seen a single example of such tweets by known crypto haters, and I don't think it's a coincidence because they hacked quite a big amount of accounts.
I hope no one got baited on this obvious scam made by the hackers. Anyways, social media accounts are really prone to be hacked by using some tools to implement the hacking so it's not new anymore.
Unfortunately, I've seen info about around $110k these scammers received from people. And while the scheme is indeed typical and obvious to many, there hasn't been such a serious attack on Twitter accounts before, and I suppose some thought that info from a verified account cannot be false...

This is a trending topic as of this day, there are many Twitter accounts which are now hacked, those are big people or popular person, hackers are so smart because they hacked so many accounts of a popular person. They may get money from hacking those accounts, they may ask some money for return, I think there are already many people who get scammed by the post of those popular twitter accounts but as of this day there, wouldn't be the person who will fall for that scam because it is now very trending. The good thing is that this case spreads immediately.

But at least they don't gather big amounts from doing this twitter hacking because the twitter management acted fast and make precautionary measures like holding the involved accounts to prevent further damage.

Imagine those candidate for presidency and also former president like Barrack Obama?

This will serve a lesson to all social media fanatic that Please extend your research everytime there is something like this because mostly there are no solicitation happens from those people.

It wasn't only Elon Musk, but many high profile users such as Jeff Bezos, Bill gates and Barack Obama too. These sort of things are really bad as they are ruining the reputation of Bitcoin. People no matter how easy it is to trace bitcoin address would think that Bitcoin is something shady used by hackers. I hope that FBI is able to track down the people who have done it because that would set a new example to such scammers. But yes there is one thing Hacking account of ex-president United States definitely requires a lots of Guts. I am curious how high profile these hackers are.

Tweet removed.  But it was definitely from his account.  I blocked the wallet to prevent anyone silly enough to think he'd actually do anything like it.

Quite the high profile account to get hacked though.

This is the type of profile the hacker should have had its focus on. Imagine, big announcements being posted from the accounts of these huge influences, if you wanted you could easily cause artificial pumping of several coins. I'm not saying this is how to go about doing things, I'm simply stating that this could have been a lot worse.

although I feel bad for the victims. this is a clever move on the hacker's side. it is guaranteed that there will be people gullible enough to believe in something like this, especially if a very reputable person made a statement like that.

Last I checked the hackers had made off with around 12.8 btc.

can you share the source/link? would love to see if the amount has increased.

He is just one among famous persons. In fact I'm not surprised and I think it was just matter of time. It seems that Twitter has some serious security issues and this is not the first incident. They will have to explain a lot of things.
It doesn't also surprise me that so many people have fallen for this, not many check what is going on before they send the money.

Every of prominent twitter accounts were hacked and they all tried to convince people that the giveaway were real. It's still surprising how so many people are falling for such scams.

Can you differentiate and know before hand that those accounts are hacked? That is the main reason why people have fallen for this scam because the tweet itself come from those verified accounts.

No business would ever provide money for free and even if they did, they'd not ask users to send a lot of money first. Crypto is being infamous for such scams both due to the scammers and people falling for it. The largest hack in the social media till date just to get some bitcoin.

I agree, but then again the argument that you really don't have prior knowledge about the hack, makes you think that this is really legitimate. So it's not crypto's fault though, it's not the system that has fault here, but security lapses on part of Twitter.

its definitely not elon's tweet. it simply just contradicts to his claim that he only has 0.25 BTC in his wallet so this tweet is just not coming from him. anyone from crypto who followed elon knew about it.

they should also target actors because that will really be making more exposure to BTC.  this isn't a hacker but a degenerate scammer just tweeting to double is an old trick that old dogs kept reusing.

Meanwhile it is known that not the individual Twitter accounts were hacked, but the hackers apparently gained access to a Twitter admin account through social engineering.
Screenshots of an internal Twitter tool for account management were also published.

And this is how the admin tool reportedly looks like, which is used to control user accounts:

They'd be targeting high-profile figures to ensure that they will get something out of the gullible people who think that figures such as Elon and Bill Gates would do something like this just because they're.. rich. They are already giving lots of money in the form of charity and the only people who'd be doing such actions are those chasing the clout and wanting to get some attention in exchange of some money. I just hope that they get caught (I doubt it) for such actions. A lot of coins actually came through on that same address, which is quite surprising considering how people should actually be aware of such but still gets scammed in the end.

I also saw the tweet on Twitter, wasn’t on Elon Musk page, but on Bill Gates’ Twitter and I didn’t need anyone to tell me that his account was hacked and it was a scam. Later I got to discover through the media that it wasn’t just Elon Musk and Bill Gates, a lot of celebrities were hacked and that includes Kanye West and his wife Kim, Joseph R. Biden Jnr., Barack Obama, and others.

And of course there were lots of people that fell for it, I got to learn that the hackers received around $100,000.People should know that celebrities can’t do this kind of sh*t, telling you to send $1000 to receive double lol. It’s time they learn to be careful.

this is an outrage, i also read in a telegram group that binance twitter account and obama account has been hacked as well, how they manage to hacked this high profile account almost the same time, i don't want to insinuate but i smell something like an inside job somewhere, this is more like a hacking spree, they should tighten up their security.

Even high profile people are neither exempted nor secured to that kind of crimes in using social media platforms.

There is a scenario here that one of those internet provider companies here in our country was hacked by the Anonymous due to a bad service with a high fees. People are really suffering from slow internet connection, and yet, they are charging their customers with a high bills. That's the reason why the Twitter account of that company was hacked and Anonymous posted something and threatened the company to fix their issue and have a good service towards its customer. No one is safe in social media especially if it includes money, you are more prone to those hacking events even those people who use cryptocurrency.

“This is massive,” said cybersecurity expert Rachel Tobac, the CEO of SocialProof Security. “This is most likely the largest attack I’ve ever seen. We are extremely lucky that these attackers are monetarily motivated and not sowing mass chaos all over the world.”

Saw this awhile ago, that's the first news I saw this morning. And not just Elon Musk that was hacked;

Elon Musk, Bill Gates, and Jeff Bezos have been hacked as part of a widespread bitcoin giveaway scam.

These scammers are hacking popular btc enthusiasts twitter accountd to attract btc users and to make other fall for their fake giveaways, fake doubling scheme to scam people. As what I saw, many retweeted it already. Those who were unaware that the accounts were hacked will somehow believe on that crap.

Yeah, when I initially posted, I had only seen Musk's account had been compromised.

Last I checked the hackers had made off with around 12.8 btc.
